3 get life for abducting, killing 20-yr-old woman

Bareilly: A court here has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for abducting and killing a 20-year-old woman in 2021. On July 5, 2021, Priya, a resident of Baradari locality in Bareilly, left for Rudrapur in search of a job but never returned. After she went missing, her mother lodged an FIR on July 16. Police later arrested Rajveer Singh, 25, and recovered the woman's skeleton from a pit near Aril river in Budaun on Sept 26. Additional district govt counsel (ADGC) Suresh Babu Sahu said on Friday, "Rajveer lured Priya into a relationship and strangled her in Budaun with the help of his associates Satendra Singh, 54, and Govardhan Lal,29. There were 86 calls exchanged on the day she went missing." During interrogation, Rajveer admitted the involvement of Satendra's wife Inglesh and Ajit Singh, though they were not convicted. Police said the woman was murdered because she had refused to marry Satendra's son and threatened to approach police. A DNA test confirmed the identity of the remains, and a chargesheet was filed on April 26, 2022. The court of additional district judge Ashok Kumar Yadav convicted Rajveer, Satendra, and Govardhan, sentencing them to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 50,000 each. The court also ordered Rs 75,000 from the fine amount to be given to the victim's mother as compensation. "I had to run from pillar to post to get justice for my daughter. She was the sole earning member of the family and trusted a stranger for a job, which cost her life," the mother said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Man hires contract killers to murder son over affair and land dispute; 4 held

Amroha: Four men, including a 55-year-old father, were arrested on Saturday, in Amroha district after he allegedly hired contract killers to murder his son over a relationship with a married woman and a dispute over ancestral land. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Police said Deepak Kumar, 27, was killed on the night of June 22. His body, bearing severe facial injuries, was found the next morning in a field in Shahwazpur village under Rajabpur police station limits. The body was sent for post-mortem at the district hospital and later identified. On June 23, Deepak's father, Satendra Singh, filed a police complaint claiming his son had left for Dehradun for work and had been murdered by unknown assailants. A case was registered under sections 103(1) and 238 of the BNS against unidentified persons. However, during the investigation, call detail records and technical surveillance pointed to Satendra's involvement. According to Amroha SP Amit Kumar Anand, Satendra had struck a deal worth Rs 2.7 lakh to have his son killed. He then attempted to mislead the investigation by lodging a false FIR. Police said Deepak had been pressuring his father to give him his share of the ancestral land and wanted to marry a married woman—both of which Satendra opposed. This led to repeated confrontations. On the night of the murder, the accused allegedly made Deepak drink alcohol, took him to a canal track, shot him dead, disfigured his face, and removed his clothes to prevent identification. Those arrested include Satendra Singh, contract killer Umar; and two accomplices—Zareef from Halpura and Raees Ahmad from Mundakhedi. Police have recovered a pistol and a shovel used in the crime. All four are currently in custody.

‘3 Idiots' with twist: Man dons friend's identity to become doc

Jabalpur: In a bizarre real-life '3 Idiots' replay, a man named Satendra Kumar got an MBBS degree in the name of his tribal friend, Brijraj Singh Uike, and practised as a doctor in Jabalpur for seven years before a patient's death busted his lie. Uike, a poor painter, had no clue his friend was raking in the bucks as a doctor in his name. An FIR has been registered against Satendra for fraud and conspiracy, and police are looking for him. Investigators also want to find out how Satendra, a general category candidate, managed to dodge multiple checks and pass himself off as a tribal to avail of a quota seat. While investigating the case, police were struck by the similarities with the 2009 blockbuster '3 Idiots' where the main character tops an engineering course while studying under an assumed identity. In the movie, though, he goes into a life of philanthropy. Police got involved in the case when Manoj Kumar Mahawar, a resident of Railway Officers' Colony, filed a complaint in Sept 2024 that his mother died due to medical negligence, said additional SP Suryakant Sharma. He admitted her to a private hospital in Bhanwartal on Sept 1, 2024. She died the next day.
