'SNL's Sarah Sherman Addresses Her Unflattering Impersonation Of 'White Lotus' Star Aimee Lou Wood
'Saturday Night Live's' Sarah Sherman says she feels 'terrible' about hurting 'The White Lotus' star Aimee Lou Wood with an unflattering imitation last month. The comic explained her intentions while talking about the controversial sketch in a new interview with Vanity Fair, where she said, 'I was excited to play her because she's so iconic, her character is so iconic, and I fucking obviously never meant to hurt anyone's feelings.' 'Never in a million years did I get into comedy to make anyone upset,' Sherman added. 'I feel terrible that anyone would feel bad.' The morning after the seemingly ill-conceived parody aired on April 12, Wood told her Instagram followers she found the way the sketch mocked her unique smile 'mean' and 'unfunny.' The British actor said she thought that there must have been 'a cleverer, more nuanced' and 'less cheap way' to satirize the HBO hit without having Sherman wear cartoonish buck teeth and use an exaggerated Manchester accent. Taking the message to heart, Sherman later apologized by sending the star a bouquet of flowers which Wood posted to her Instagram. In light of the backlash, Sherman told Vanity Fair how she and her 'SNL' castmates have to be careful when poking fun at pop culture. 'Being in conversation with everything popular culture, there's such a danger there,' she explained. 'Sometimes you just don't realize how it comes across, but you're put in a position to be engaging with it all the time, because you are a part of a show that's constantly interacting with culture and popular politics and popular whatever. As I get thrown more and more into the show, it's just this other thing that I have to learn about.' Sherman wasn't the first 'SNL' player to reflect on 'The White Potus' sketch, which inserted President Donald Trump's family and several cabinet members into drama at the posh Thailand resort where 'The White Lotus' was set this season. In late April, comedian and podcaster Bowen Yang told 'Extra' he thought Wood's response was 'completely valid.' 'With parody, you kind of forget the sort of human, emotional cost that it sort of extols on someone,' he said. Generate Key Takeaways Colin Jost doesn't care about Trump cutting social services, as long as the President doesn't take his precious dolls. In 'Saturday Night Live's' latest Weekend Update segment, Jost and co-anchor Michael Che wasted no time taking aim at Donald Trump's many recent headline-making antics, including posting an AI-generated portrait of himself in holy garb a week after the pope's death. 'As a Catholic, this feels slightly disrespectful,' Jost said, with Che adding that the photo (posted to X) was like 'ordering a 1-way ticket to hell.' More from Variety Che also took aim at fellow Trump administration boss Elon Musk, who recently announced he's stepping back from duties as part of the DOGE federal agency. 'As usual,' Che quipped, 'he pulled out a little too late.' The ongoing Diddy saga continues to be top-of-mind for Che, who noted that 'The sex trafficking trial of Sean Combs begins in New York next week,' assuring viewers, 'Just like his parties, I'm only going there to watch.' Weekend Update continued with Jost railing against Trump's sweeping financial policies: not because of the ruinous impact they're having on the American people, but because kids will only be getting 'Two dolls for Christmas instead of 30,' as Trump recently said. 'If I wake up on Christmas morning and I run downstairs to find only two dolls, I will lose my fucking mind,' Jost ranted. 'Cutting social security? They're old, screw 'em. Innocent children being deported? They gotta grow up sometime.' Che closed out the Update with a joke about Uber offering free rides to teens attending prom, theorizing that users could expect their driver, Matt Gaetz, to be arriving soon. Colin Jost Says Trump Nabbed 'One-Way Ticket To Hell' With This Move
'Saturday Night Live's' Colin Jost thinks President Donald Trump may have damned himself with one of his latest Truth Social posts. The 'Weekend Update' co-host said the president had ordered himself 'a one-way ticket to hell' when he posted an AI-generated image of himself as pope online Friday night. 'Who posts a photo of themselves dressed like a guy who died a week ago?' the comedian wondered. 'Trump was at the pope's funeral,' Jost went on. 'That means he walked past an open casket and was like 'Oh, we should do a Who Wore It Best.'' He also warned the president about his second-in-command, telling him, 'If Trump really wants to be pope, he should probably stay away from JD Vance.' The vice president was one of the last people to have an audience with Pope Francis before his death last month. People started counting their blessings after the president told reporters his top pick for next pontiff earlier this week. 'I'd like to be pope,' Trump winked. 'That'd be my number one choice.' 'SNL's Trump Redefines Recession And Signs 'Belichick Law' During Executive Order Spree
'Saturday Night Live' roasted President Donald Trump's chaotic first 100 days and his excessive use of executive orders in office during this week's cold open. The sketch show's go-to Trump impersonator, James Austin Johnson, introduced himself as 'your favorite president and perhaps your next pope' before looking back on his accomplishments, like banning paper straws and defunding PBS. 'I understand Elmo has now been apprehended by ICE,' he bellowed. 'Brought to you by the letter 'L' for El Salvador.' After patting himself on the back for his first 147 orders, Johnson invited his Deputy Chief of Staff and 'lord of the shadows,' Stephen Miller (played by Mikey Day) to help him sign an absurd slate of new decrees. Among the measures was what he called the 'Belichick law,' a policy that would 'make it socially acceptable for a man in his 70s to date a 24-year-old.' 'We're gonna make girlfriends young again,' he said, referring to football coach Bill Belichick, 73, and his much younger other-half, Jordon Hudson, who made headlines for a cringe-inducing CBS interview last weekend. 'Old men can now date far younger women, we like that,' Johnson blurted out. 'It's hot! but in reverse it's quite disgusting, right? Very 'Dateline.'' Also on the agenda was a pardon for 'Harry Potter' author J.K. Rowling, who Trump credited with creating a 'whole wizarding world, a wonderful place for overweight millennials to stake their entire identity well past the point of it being cute.' To wrap up his executive order spree, the fake president announced a new policy shortening the word recession to 'recess.' 'Fun right!' he smirked. 'So America, get ready for a historically long recess.' 'Roundball Rock' coming back as the theme song when NBC returns to carrying the NBA in October
'Roundball Rock' is coming home. NBC answered the biggest question many have had since it won back NBA rights last July during Saturday's coverage of the Kentucky Derby when it aired a 60-second commercial featuring John Tesh's iconic theme song. The song was the soundtrack of NBC's coverage of the NBA from 1990 until 2002 along with the Chicago Bulls dynasty of six NBA titles. 'Roundball Rock is one of the greatest pieces of theme music in sports history. Hearing it immediately conjures images of NBC Sports' coverage of one of the golden ages of the NBA, from Magic to Michael to Kobe and many others,' NBC Sports president Rick Cordella said. 'It was a pleasure working with John Tesh to bring Roundball Rock back to NBC, and we're equally excited to hear its debut on Peacock. We couldn't imagine beginning our coverage any other way.' ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW The spot features current NBA stars Luka Doncic, Donovan Mitchell and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, along with stars from NBC shows humming the theme. It concludes with Tesh playing 'Roundball Rock' on a keyboard in the center of Los Angeles' Intuit Dome — the home of the Los Angeles Clippers — before cutting to the front row where Tracy Morgan says, 'John Tesh still got it.' Tesh has often said he composed 'Roundball Rock' in July 1989 after he woke up in the middle of the night with the idea. Without instruments or a tape recorder, Tesh left an a cappella message on his answering machine so he wouldn't forget it. 'I'm truly honored to be back with my friends at NBC Sports,' Tesh said in a statement. 'From our first meeting, Rick Cordella had a powerful vision for bringing Roundball Rock back to its one true home. Along with millions of other fans, I'll be front row center for the epic launch in the fall.' During the media rights negotiations last year, Tesh created a bit of a social media frenzy when he announced he was going into the recording studio to do an updated version of 'Roundball Rock.' However, it was for NBC's coverage of the Paris Olympics. 'Roundball Rock' has lived on in popularity even after NBC lost the NBA. Fox Sports reached an agreement to use it for its college basketball coverage, while a 2013 skit featuring actor Jason Sudeikis portraying Tesh remains one of 'Saturday Night Live's' most popular scenes. NBC's 11-year agreement with the NBA and WNBA begins in October. Peacock will exclusively stream games on Monday night while NBC/Peacock will have regional doubleheaders on Tuesday. NBC and Peacock will also launch 'Sunday Night Basketball' in January.
