Woman killed for dowry in Begusarai village
Begusarai: A 25-year-old woman, Lakshmi Kumari, was allegedly killed by her husband for dowry at Zila Punarvas village under Matihani police station area in Begusarai district on Monday.
Lakshmi's father, Satyadev Sah, said on Tuesday that he got information that his daughter was killed and her body was thrown in the Ganga river on Monday evening. He alleged that Lakshmi's husband and in-laws had been torturing her for dowry after her marriage.
"Lakshmi was married to Amresh Kumar in July 2024. Amresh runs a small flour mill in the village. He, along with his parents, started pressuring my daughter for Rs 5 lakh shortly after the marriage.
I even gave Rs 2 lakh to meet their demand. However, they were not happy by this, and ultimately they killed her on Monday," he alleged, adding Lakshmi talked to him over phone on Monday morning. "However, in the evening I was informed that her body was found 2 km away from her residence in the river," he said.
Satyadev Sah is a resident of Chhaurahi village under the same police station of the district.
Satyadev's co-villager, Ashok Kumar, said they found Lakshmi's house locked and all members of the family missing when they reached her house at Zila Punarvas village. "Local people told us that the members of the family had taken Lakshmi on an e-rickshaw with her body fully covered. They told the villagers that she was not well and was being taken for treatment. Later, two motorcycle-borne men allegedly took her body to throw in the river," he said.
Maithani SHO, Nitesh Kumar, said the case is being investigated on the basis of the complaint lodged by Satyadev Sah. "Police have also interrogated the e-rickshaw driver in this connection," he said.
