Ex J&K Governor Satypal Malik admitted to ICU, says he plans to ‘reveal truth' in lengthy X post

Ailing former Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) governor Satyapal Malik has shared on social media updates about his health and also attacked the Modi government for not investigating the Pulwama terrpr attack till date. Malik alleged that the government is trying to trap him in a false chargesheet by threatening him with the CBI. He also said that during his tenure as J&K governor, he was offered bribes of ₹ 150 crore, which he refused and continued to work honestly like his political guru, late farmer leader Chaudhary Charan Singh. In a post on social media platform X, Satyapal Malik said: 'Hello friends. I have been admitted to the hospital for the last one month and am suffering from kidney problems. I was fine since the day before yesterday morning but today again I had to be shifted to the ICU. My condition is becoming very serious. Whether I live or not, I want to tell the truth to my countrymen. When I was on the post of Governor, I was offered bribes of Rs. 150-150 crores, but I continued to work honestly like my political guru, farmer messiah late Chaudhary Charan Singh ji and he could never shake my integrity.' Malik was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi on May 11 and is currently on dialysis. The former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik further said: 'When I was the Governor, the farmers' movement was also going on. I raised the demands of the farmers while holding the post without any political greed.' Farmers in India protested primarily to demand a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops, ensuring stable and fair income amid market fluctuations. They also sought complete loan forgiveness and fulfillment of government promises made during earlier protests, including doubling their incomes and protection against exploitation by large corporations. On May 23, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had visited ailing former J&K governor Satyapal Malik at RML Hospital. 'Today I met former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satyapal Malik ji at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and enquired about his health. I hope he gets well soon. I stand with him in this fight for truth,' Gandhi had posted on X.

'Whether I live Or Not...': Ex-J&K Governor Satyapal Malik Says He's In ICU, Attacks BJP

Last Updated: In a lengthy post on X, Satyapal Malik said that he was in the ICU and attacked the BJP government, claiming that he was being defamed by the Centre. A day after giving an update about his health while being admitted to a hospital due to kidney problems, former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satyapal Malik on Sunday said that he was in a very serious condition and shared a contact number to get in touch with him. 'Condition is very serious. Contact number – 96105 44972," Malik posted on X. On Friday, he had said on X that he had been hospitalised for the last month due to kidney problems and added that he was doing well but had to be shifted to the ICU. 'I have been admitted to the hospital for almost a month now, battling a kidney-related illness. I was feeling better since the day before yesterday, but today I had to be shifted to the ICU again. My condition is becoming increasingly critical," Malik said. मैं रहूं या ना रहूं इसलिए अपने देशवासियों को सच्चाई बताना…— Satyapal Malik (@SatyapalMalik6) June 7, 2025 Expressing uncertainty about his life, he said he wanted to tell the 'truth" to the nation, and claimed that the BJP government at the Centre was trying to defame him. 'Whether I live or not, I want to tell the truth to my fellow countrymen — when I was serving as a Governor, I was offered bribes of Rs 150-150 crores. But like my political mentor, the farmers' leader Late Chaudhary Charan Singh ji, I continued to work with honesty, and no one could ever shake my integrity," he claimed. 'The government is trying to scare me with the threat of a CBI inquiry and is looking for excuses to trap me in a false chargesheet. In the case they want to frame me for, I was the one who had cancelled the tender myself. I had personally informed the Prime Minister about the corruption involved, and after informing him, I cancelled the tender. It was only after I was transferred that the tender was cleared with someone else's signature," the former governor added. He said that even after holding some of the highest positions in public life, he lived a humble life and is in 'debt". 'The truth is, even after serving the nation for over 50 years and holding some of the highest positions in public life, I still live in a one-room house and am in debt. If I had wealth today, I would have been getting treatment at a private hospital," Malik said.

Centre is trying to frame me: former J&K Governor

Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik said on Saturday (June 7, 2025) that the Centre is trying to frame him in false chargesheets by threatening him with cases filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In a post on X in Hindi, Mr. Malik said, 'The tender they want to implicate me in was one I personally cancelled. I had informed the Prime Minister about the corruption in that matter, and after informing him, I cancelled that tender myself. After my transfer, that tender was approved with someone else's signature.' Mr. Malik said he is admitted in the Intensive Unit Care (ICU) of a hospital for kidney-related ailment. 'My condition is becoming very serious. Whether I survive or not, I want to tell the truth to my fellow countrymen — When I was Governor, I was offered bribes of ₹150 to ₹150 crore, but like my political mentor, the late farmer leader Chaudhary Charan Singh, I worked with honesty, and my integrity could never be shaken,' he said. The case in which Mr. Malik has been chargesheeted involves the awarding of ₹2,200 crore worth of civil works for the Kiru Hydroelectric Project. Registered by the CBI in April 2022 on a reference from the Jammu and Kashmir government, the FIR alleged Chenab Valley Power Project (P) Limited (CVPPPL), at its 47th board meeting, had decided to cancel the then ongoing tendering process and re-tender for the works through e-tenders with reverse auction. The FIR alleged that the very next board meeting of the CCVPPL saw this decision reversed, leading to the contract being awarded to Patel Engineering in 2019. In the chargesheet filed in the case by the CBI last month, besides Mr. Malik, who was the Governor of J&K from August 23, 2018, to October 30, 2019, seven others had been chargesheeted. This included the then MD of CVPPL, M.S. Babu, and directors M.K. Mittal and Arun Kumar Mishra. Others charged are then Managing Director of Patel Engineering Limited, Rupen Patel (deceased), along with Virender Rana, Kanwar Singh Rana, and Kanwaljeet Singh Duggal. 'The government has put all its strength into defaming me. In the end, my request to the government and its agencies is to please tell the truth to the beloved people of my country — what did you find against me in your investigations? The truth, however, is that after serving the nation in very high positions for over 50 years in my political life, I still live in a single-room house and am in debt. If I had wealth today, I would be getting treatment in a private hospital,' he said.

'Being booked in corruption Case is Karma': Sajad Lone on Satyapal Malik

Srinagar, May 23 (UNI) Peoples Conference chairman and MLA Handwara Sajad Lone on Friday termed the corruption case against former J&K Governor Satyapal Malik as 'karma,' accusing him of vilifying Kashmiris and being the 'author' of the crackdown of 2019. On Thursday, CBI filed a chargesheet against Satyapal Malik and six others in a corruption case linked to the Rs 2,200-crore Kiru Hydropower Project in Jammu and Kashmir. Hours after the chargesheet Malik shared a photo of himself on X from a hospital bed, saying his health is 'very bad.' 'While I feel bad for ex governor Satyapal Malik, given that he is ill. But it is also true that he heralded the most vicious and slanderous campaign against the Kashmiris, branding every Kashmiri as a corrupt soul,' Lone said in a post on X. 'There is not a single TV Channel where he did not voice his negative opinion about Kashmiris, about carpets, about three storeyed Kashmiri residences. He harboured a contemptuous hatred for Kashmiris. And he was a liar. He lied through his teeth,' he added. Malik served as the last Governor of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019, a period that saw the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019. Lone said it was Malik who 'authored the crackdown of 2019,' referring to the political detentions and restrictions imposed following the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status. 'That he has now been booked under a corruption case is Karma. He was the author of the crackdown in 2019. Inshallah all those who have slandered Kashmiris, jailed them, ordered their killings will face Karma,' Lone said. On Thursday, former Chief Minister and PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti said it was a moment of reckoning in the legacy of a man who played a key role in the "disempowerment and fragmentation" of Jammu and Kashmir. 'Sorry to see Satya Pal Malik in such a critical condition undergoing dialysis following kidney failure. At the same time CBI has filed a chargesheet against him in connection with alleged corruption in the awarding of a hydropower project contract in J&K. Some may see this moment as a reckoning, a complex chapter in the legacy of a man who played a pivotal role in the disempowerment & fragmentation of Jammu and Kashmir,' she said. UNI MJR SSP
