Saudi Arabia chairs parliamentary talks in Algeria

RIYADH: The Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments held its 46th meeting in the Algerian capital, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday. It was chaired by Mohammed Al-Mutairi, secretary-general of the Saudi Shoura Council and chairman of the association, in the presence of heads of Arab councils and parliaments. The meeting focused on developing employees' technical and administrative skills, the SPA reported. The secretaries-general shared insights on best practices in human resource development, emphasizing skill enhancement and adequate training for legislative staff. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 38th Conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union in Algiers, where the agenda was reviewed and various topics related to cooperation and the strengthening of joint Arab action were discussed. Established on April 3, 1995, the association aims to build bridges of cooperation between Arab and international councils and parliaments.

RIYADH: Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, speaker of the Saudi Shoura Council, will head the Kingdom's delegation taking part in the meetings of the 38th Congress of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union on May 3-4. The conference will take place in Algeria, with the presence and participation of heads of councils and parliaments from Arab countries. In a press statement, Al-Sheikh affirmed that the Kingdom, with the leadership of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is keen on supporting joint Arab action, and unifying visions and positions in a way that consolidates security, stability and peace in the region and the world. On the sidelines of the conference, heads of parliaments will hold a consultative meeting to discuss the conference's subjects. Meanwhile, the three permanent committees — the Palestine Committee; the Social Affairs, Women, Children, and Youth Committee; and the Political Affairs and Parliamentary Relations Committee — will hold their regular meetings. The Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union is holding the 38th session, alongside the 46th meeting of the Association of Secretaries General of Arab Parliaments. The Shoura Council delegation participating in the conference includes Secretary-General of the Shoura Council Mohammed bin Dakheel Al-Mutairi, member of the council and the union's executive committee Dr. Abdulaziz bin Ibrahim Al-Muhanna, council members Abdullah bin Fahd Al-Husein and Khalid bin Mohammed Abu Malha, and several other council officials.

The parties discussed topics of mutual interest and further strengthening the strong ties between the two countries, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The Pakistani speaker also met Saudi Shoura Council Speaker Sheikh Abdullah Al-Asheikh in Riyadh. Al-Asheikh welcomed Sadiq and his delegation, highlighting the strong ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan at various levels. He stressed the importance of enhancing ties through effective joint meetings between the Shoura Council and Pakistan's National Assembly to meet leadership aspirations. Sadiq praised the fraternal relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, commending the Kingdom's continued role in fostering solidarity within the Islamic world and serving Islam and Muslims globally. The talks covered mutual interests and explored ways to enhance Saudi-Pakistani parliamentary relations. Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh, the Kingdom's grand mufti and president of the Council of Senior Scholars, also received the Pakistani National Assembly speaker. The grand mufti, who is also the president of the General Presidency of Scholarly Research and Ifta, stressed the presidency's role in clarifying Islamic rulings on issues affecting Muslims, including contemporary jurisprudential matters requiring scholarly guidance. Al-Asheikh also highlighted the commitment to promoting moderation and combating extremism and terrorism, the SPA reported. Sadiq praised the Kingdom's vital support for Pakistan on various issues, commending the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.
