Following an official notification from the Telangana government, schools across Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and several surrounding districts has today observed a general holiday to mark the celebration of Bonalu 2025. In Himachal Pradesh, summer schools are scheduled to remain closed from July 12 to August 12, while schools in the Kullu district will observe their summer break slightly later, from July 20 to August 12. Winter schools across the state will be shut from August 8 to 12, and institutions classified as extreme summer schools will remain closed between August 3 and 12. In view of the Kanwar Yatra, several districts in western Uttar Pradesh—including Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Bareilly, Badaun, and Varanasi—have announced the temporary closure of all government and private schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres from July 16 to 23. This measure aims to ensure public safety and ease traffic disruptions during the religious pilgrimage. The Kanwar Yatra, which spans a month, draws lakhs of Shiva devotees—known as Kanwariyas—who travel on foot carrying sacred water from the Ganga, with the highest footfall typically occurring around Shivratri on July 23. Anticipating congestion and law-and-order challenges along school routes, Meerut District Magistrate Dr. VK Singh has mandated the closure of all recognised institutions, including those affiliated with the UP Board, CBSE, and ICSE. Doon admn directs civic bodies to come up with rehabilitation plan for slum dwellers
Dehradun: Amid ongoing legal proceedings in the Uttarakhand high court and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to remove encroachments along the Rispana and Bindal rivers, the Dehradun district administration has directed civic bodies to prepare plans for the organic rehabilitation of slum dwellers living along these water said court directives mandate the conservation of riverbeds while also ensuring that slum residents are provided dignified living conditions. "All stakeholders whether it's the corporation or the irrigation department must come together to create a rehabilitation plan that's ready before any displacement begins," said district magistrate Savin Bansal at a departmental meeting on DM added that land owned by govt agencies is being reclaimed, and FIRs are being registered against encroachers and land mafias. Court orders, he said, call for quality facilities for residents alongside protection of the administration has instructed departments to pursue sustainable rehabilitation and development through counselling and mutually agreed-upon displacement that does not jeopardise livelihoods. "We are identifying land parcels under our jurisdiction and are already working on rehabilitation plans. Chardham Yatra 2025: 24x7 High-Tech System And Mobile Teams To Ensure Pilgrim Safety
Last Updated: Chardham Yatra 2025: The Yatra starts on April 30. Dehradun DM Savin Bansal inspected the Rishikesh Transit Camp, stressing passenger convenience and strict service monitoring Chardham Yatra: The 2025 Chardham Yatra is set to commence on April 30, and the Uttarakhand administration is actively preparing to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage for all devotees. On Monday, Dehradun District Magistrate Savin Bansal conducted a surprise inspection of the Rishikesh Transit Camp to assess the arrangements and issued firm directives to officials, stressing that passenger convenience must be the top priority. He warned that any form of negligence would not be tolerated at any level. During the inspection, the District Magistrate reviewed the registration counters, drinking water facilities, food provisions, and medical services available for pilgrims. He instructed that cold water dispensers be installed at various points within the transit camp and ISBT, ensuring no traveller faces difficulty in accessing drinking water. Additional manpower will be deployed for this purpose, and the DM made it clear that there would be no restrictions on the budget for essential services. Round-The-Clock Registration And Support To date, more than 1,700 pilgrims have registered at the Rishikesh Transit Camp. For their convenience, 30 registration counters are operating 24/7. Furthermore, 35 mobile teams have been formed to assist with registration at hotels and dharamshalas, visiting each location to support travellers. Of these, 10 teams will be on duty overnight to accommodate late-night arrivals. Special emphasis is also being placed on health and food services. Medical personnel, including doctors and nurses, have been deployed, and additional facilities are being provided through outsourcing arrangements. The DM has directed that the quality of food must be strictly monitored, with clear instructions that no food item older than four hours is to be served to pilgrims. Technology And Transparency To enhance transparency and communication, the administration has ordered that information about dharamshalas be displayed in every tent and hangar, and broadcast continuously on LED screens. Facilities such as the Yatri Mitra Kendra, Police Help Centre, sanitation systems, public toilets, and parking arrangements are being closely monitored. This year, the administration is committed to making the Chardham Yatra not only secure but also technologically forward. With comprehensive management at every level and round-the-clock assistance, officials aim to ensure that no pilgrim is left unsupported. The Chardham Yatra, a spiritual pilgrimage for many, now also stands as a symbol of administrative efficiency and commitment to public welfare.

Contractors of 3 govt firms booked for negligence in civil work
Dehradun: Contractors of three govt agencies were booked for negligence, and their ongoing infrastructure work suspended for three months following multiple public complaints regarding violations of public safety norms and civil work regulations. Officials said that issues of public inconvenience were reported from Canal Road and Mata Mandir Road areas, where – Jal Sansthan, Gas Authority Of India Ltd (GAIL), and Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) – were carrying out roadworks respectively. Authorities said no new work permissions will be granted to the agencies during the suspension period. District magistrate Savin Bansal said, "We received complaints of road cutting against the permission granted. They were putting public safety at risk by leaving the road dug up dangerously. Debris was also left on the road unattended without any cautionary signage. Such violations of directives will not be tolerated." Inspections at the work sites revealed that in some instances, night-time work directives were also flouted, and work equipment was left haphazardly on roadsides. "The contractor was permitted to work from 10pm to 5am but the workers continued the work during the day as well," he added. Meanwhile, a source with Jal Sansthan claimed that the debris removal was underway and work was being carried out as per the terms of the permissions granted.
