Georgia Bulldogs and Ohio State Buckeyes reportedly unwilling to match NIL offer from Tennessee Vols in battle for 5-star recruit

Georgia Bulldogs and Ohio State Buckeyes reportedly unwilling to match NIL offer from Tennessee Vols in battle for 5-star recruit originally appeared on A to Z Sports. The Tennessee Vols are reportedly willing to outspend the Georgia Bulldogs and the Ohio State Buckeyes in the battle for an elite 2026 five-star recruit. Tennessee is pushing hard to land a commitment from 2026 five-star running back Savion Hiter. Hiter, 5-foot-11/200 lbs from Mineral, VA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 running back in the nation. He's set to announce his commitment on August 19. Michigan, Georgia, Ohio State, and Tennessee are the four teams in the mix for Hiter. It's Michigan and Tennessee, though, that are viewed as the top two contenders for the five-star running back. And that's because those two programs are willing to spend more in NIL/revenue sharing than Georgia and Ohio State. "Georgia and Ohio State still have Hiter on their radar, and both would love to land him, but sources said that neither is willing to do what Michigan and Tennessee are talking about from a revenue-sharing/NIL standpoint," reported 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn. On3's Steve Wilftong noted this week that he believes Michigan is in a "strong position" for Hiter. Wiltfong, however, added that "nobody knows what he's going to do", while also pointing out that Tennessee is giving Hiter a lot to think about. It sounds like the Vols are doing everything they can to land Hiter, but this battle is likely going to come down to where the Virginia native feels the most comfortable. Nation's No. 1 running back announces commitment date

An elite running back recruit and Georgia Bulldogs recruiting target has announced his commitment date. Five-star RB prospect Savion Hiter will be committing on Aug. 19, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals. Hiter will choose among Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State and Tennessee. Hiter is a five-star prospect from the class of 2026. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound freshman plays high school football and track and field for Louisa County High School in Mineral, Virginia. Hiter made the Under-Armour All-American roster, alongside elite recruits such as Georgia freshmen defensive tackle Elijah Griffin and offensive tackle Juan Gaston, as well as Georgia commits Kaiden Prothro (five-star tight end) and Zech Fort (four-star safety). On 247Sports' analysis on Hiter, Andrew Ivins compared Hiter to former North Carolina RB Omarion Hampton. Hiter has no visits scheduled anymore. He took official visits with Ohio State (May 30), Georgia (June 6), Michigan (June 13), and Tennessee (June 20). 247Sports has not released a Crystal Ball prediction for him yet. Georgia currently has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country, with 30 total commits, including two five-stars and 21 four-stars. The Bulldogs earned a commitment from four-star running back Jae Lamar on June 21 already, but Georgia would like to earn multiple running back commits. In the 2025 cycle, the Bulldogs lost Ousmane Kromah on the first day of the early signing period when he flipped to Florida State. Hiter is the nation's No. 1 running back and No. 9 overall prospect from the class of 2026. He'd be the highest ranked commit in Georgia's class, should he choose to play for the Bulldogs. Hiter is the top ranked recruit in Virginia. If Georgia misses out on the five-star RB, then the Bulldogs may look to flip a four-star Wisconsin RB commit.

5-star 2026 Ohio State running back target Savion Hiter announces commitment date

As it stands right now, the Ohio State football team has put together a very good recruiting class for the 2026 cycle, but if we're being honest, it's a little behind where we've seen in past years, especially considering the Buckeyes are coming off a College Football Playoff national championship. And while many programs would love to have the class Ohio State has, there have been some pretty big misses as the program tries to figure out how name, image and likeness, and the House Settlement leading to direct revenue payments will work. The perception is that the Buckeyes have been conservative compared to other teams, and that has seemingly led to some misses on the high-priority targets. But there's another big one in play coming up with five-star running back Savion Hiter, who just announced his commitment date. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Hiter is ranked as the No. 1 running back and ninth overall prospect in the class. He will be making his college choice on August 19, according to an announcement on "X," and he'll be choosing among a final four of Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, and Tennessee. To be fair, OSU doesn't seem to have the momentum in this race -- though that hasn't seemed to matter this year. Despite being on campus multiple times, the buzz is that it'll come down to Michigan and Tennessee, both of whom have been much more aggressive with NIL money than Ohio State has been. To date, the Buckeyes have just one running back commitment in the class of 2026, three-star Ohio product Favour Akih. It's beginning to look like he'll be the lone back in this class unless there's a surprise with Hiter, or OSU pivots and tries to find a diamond in the rough to round out the class. Top Michigan Wolverines 2026 target, five-star Savion Hiter, sets commitment date

Michigan football has been on fire when it comes to assembling the 2026 recruiting class, but the biggest fish is still out to sea. The Wolverines have made no secret that there's one target they covet more than any other, and that's Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back Savion Hiter. Hiter has appeared to be a Michigan lean, but Tennessee, in particular, has come on strong in recent months. Ohio State and Georgia also remain in the picture. It's been something of a wait, as Hiter didn't even have a commitment date. But now we know when he'll make a decision, as he announced, via Hayes Fawcett, that he'll be making his college choice on August 19. The Wolverines do have one running back committed in Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis de Sales three-star Jonathan Brown, who self-admittedly noted that he's a bit of a project. Hiter is the type who can come in and make an instant impact, even as a true freshman. Here's his scouting report via 247Sports: Juiced-up running back with star potential for a College Football Playoff contender given the mix of his burst, power, agility, balance and vision. Has dominated the combine setting (1.52 10-yard split, 4.12 shuttle, 36-inch vertical jump) and is equipped with ready-to-play mass as he's already tipping the scales at 200 pounds. Effective as both an inside and outside runner as he's quick to chart a course and charge forward. Fast feet allow him to side-step trouble as he frequently dances around would-be tacklers in the backfield and turns negative plays into positive plays. Core strength and a lower pad level routinely negate arm tackles while full-speed cuts make it even harder for defenders to get him on the ground, especially when he breaks through the first wave of obstacles. Hasn't caught a ton of passes at the prep level, but has proven to be a tricky cover at offseason camps and looks to have true three-down potential as his physicality will only continue to give him an advantage in pass protection. Overall, should be viewed as a gifted ball carrier that can be a multi-year impact player on Saturdays and provide valuable minutes as early as Year 1. Must avoid setbacks and remain hungry, but profiles as a future NFL Draft pick with his size, testing and feel for the position. Hiter is rated as the No. 9 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite, regardless of position. He's made it to Ann Arbor multiple times and has a strong relationship with running backs coach Tony Alford. The Vols remain the primary threat.

Tennessee Gets Good News on Highly Touted Playmaker This Week

Tennessee Gets Good News on Highly Touted Playmaker This Week originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The No. 1 running back in the 2026 class, Savion Hiter, paid his fourth official visit to Tennessee's campus this past weekend and according to sources, everything went about as well as the Vols could have hoped. Advertisement After his official visit, Hiter made a post on X saying, "Thank you @Vol_Football for having my family and I this weekend 🙏🏾 appreciate you rolling out the orange carpet #GBO🍊" Despite offering no public comments, insiders tell us that the visit 'couldn't have gone much better.' Tennessee continues to be viewed as one of the leading contenders for the elite prospect as Hiter begins to narrow the field. Ryan Callahan of 247Sports wrote on Monday. "As expected, Hiter didn't offer any public comments coming off his weekend stay in Knoxville. But sources said his third visit with the Vols since early April couldn't have gone much better," Callahan wrote. Advertisement "Tennessee still appears to be one of the top contenders for Hiter as he begins to work toward a decision." On the flip side, Michigan also left a strong impression — 65% of fans in an SB Nation poll believe Hiter ended his recent official visit at Michigan on a high note, reinforcing that the Wolverines remain firmly in contention. "It's not clear at this point how soon he might be ready to announce a commitment. But Michigan remains the Vols' main competition for him, and the Wolverines appear to be all-in on trying to land him." Callahan added. "Coming out of the weekend, it's still believed to be a close race, with both Tennessee and Michigan having reasons for optimism."
