Sulaibikhat extends coach Salmeen's contract

KUWAIT CITY, July 7: Sulaibikhat Club has announced the renewal of head coach Walid Salmeen's contract for the upcoming season, following his strong performance with the first-handball team and the squad's continued presence in the Kuwait Handball Premier League. The club also appointed Ahmed Abdul Latif as goalkeeper coach to strengthen the technical staff ahead of the new season. Hussein Saywan, Director of Sulaibikhat's handball program, confirmed the renewal of contracts for Estonian player Karl Tom and French-Algerian player Nouri Ben Halima, while Estonian professional Denir Janima will not return this season. The club is currently seeking a third foreign player to complete its import quota. Saywan added that efforts are underway to renew the contracts of key local players Mishari Abbas Taha and Ahmed Al-Qattan, citing their experience as essential to the team's ambitions. He also hinted at additional local signings in the coming weeks. Preseason training will begin in early August, with the team conducting two weeks of local preparation before heading to an external training camp, which is likely to be held in either Bosnia or Montenegro. Saywan praised the team's performance last season, noting that Sulaibikhat — known as the "Red North" — delivered positive results that secured its place in the Premier League. The team now aims to compete for local championships in the upcoming campaign. He also extended his gratitude to the club's board of directors for their continued support and commitment to the first team, expressing optimism about what lies ahead. In related news, Burgan Club has renewed the contract of player Hamoud Qaid Al-Adwani for another season.

Omani researcher contributes to international study on ancient marine life

Muscat: An Omani researcher participated in an international peer-reviewed study published on the European specialised EGU platform, in collaboration with three prominent European universities: Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Utrecht University, and Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. This represents a scientific achievement that reflects the Sultanate of Oman's commitment to promoting research and development. Engineer and researcher Najat Al Fadhili from the Industrial Innovation Academy participated in a scientific study that examined the response of ancient marine organisms—which lived more than 60 million years ago—to environmental changes at the Saywan geological site in the Sultanate of Oman, one of the most prominent geological sites of high scientific value. This participation comes within the framework of the Academy's efforts to stimulate the scientific research environment and publish peer-reviewed scientific papers, as part of its efforts to consolidate the concepts of innovation and environmental sustainability, and achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040. This study contributes to enhancing understanding of the impact of climate change on fragile marine environments. In addition to supporting a knowledge-based economy by empowering national competencies in earth and climate sciences, the Industrial Innovation Academy emphasises that this type of research is not merely an academic contribution, but rather constitutes a strategic pillar for supporting resource sustainability, achieving sustainable development goals, and providing a national model for investing in scientific knowledge.
