Faridabad Dalit youth assault: police say no threat perception as his family cries foul over rejection of gun licence
The family of the Faridabad Dalit youth who was allegedly brutally assaulted and forcefully tonsured in June has said the police have not yet provided them with security cover and denied them a gun licence. Sahil, 18, suffered a fracture, internal bleeding, and injury to soft tissue in the occipital part of the brain in the alleged assault, according to his discharge summary from a hospital. After his cousin Suraj, 32, lodged a complaint, the Faridabad police arrested the 19-year-old prime accused and apprehended two of his minor accomplices. 'We still have not received any security. I had applied for a gun licence, but the file has been marked 'not recommended'. For a gun licence in Haryana, applications are now made and processed online. I went to the assistant commissioner of police in Ballabgarh and also lodged complaints at various places. They said they cannot provide us with a gunman,' Suraj told The Indian Express. When contacted, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ballabgarh) Jitesh Malhotra said they had not received any threat perception inputs to order security cover to the family. 'The Station House Officer's report indicated no threats faced by them. Security cover is issued based on these inputs,' said Malhotra. Earlier, the family had claimed that Sahil was discharged from a private hospital despite having serious injuries, including a fracture and internal bleeding, without surgery or additional treatment. After Sahil had returned home limping after the assault, the family alleged the accused had hurled casteist slurs at Sahil. In his complaint, Suraj alleged the four accused 'kept the teenager hostage in a room… cut his hair, eyebrows, moustache and beard, turned him upside down and beat him with sticks and an iron rod'. The police had earlier said there was no caste angle. The FIR, though, invoked the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, among other charges. Sahil's family is from the Jatav caste. The medico-legal report had found that he had sustained 12 wounds, 10 of which were blunt force impact ones needing orthopaedic assessment, and two 'simple' ones caused by a sharp object.

Kalyan court acquits five persons accused of rioting, assaulting woman in 2008
Agency: PTI Thane, Aug 9 (PTI) A court in Maharashtra's Thane district has acquitted five men accused of rioting and assaulting a woman in 2008, citing the absence of any direct and cogent evidence. District Judge P P Muley of the Kalyan court acquitted Dhanaji Laxman Ghavat, Namdev Motiram Ghavat, Pandurang Yashwant Ghavat, Pandurang Deu Vadavale, and Waman Balsiram Ghavat of charges under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. A copy of the order passed on August 2 was made available on Saturday. On March 21, 2008, the accused allegedly formed an unlawful assembly at Milhe village in Murbad taluka, outraged the modesty of a woman, and later trespassed into a neighbour's house to cause damage and assault people. Judge Muley noted that the prosecution's case was based on the premise of an unlawful assembly with the common object to commit the crime. However, the evidence presented was insufficient to prove this. It further stated that the victim herself had denied that the accused ever used any criminal force towards her to outrage her modesty. The court also held that merely because the victim belongs to the Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribe community cannot be a ground to attract provisions of the Atrocities Act. 'In the absence of any direct and cogent evidence, the charge against the accused cannot be said to be proved," the judgment stated. New Delhi: A police case has been registered against BJP MP K Sudhakar and two others, Nagesh and Manjunath, after a 30-year-old driver named M Babu died by suicide, leaving behind a note accusing them of deceit. The incident has sent shockwaves through Chikkaballapur district. According to the police, Babu alleged in his note that Sudhakar and Nagesh cheated him out of Rs 25 lakh by promising a government job. He also claimed that a zilla parishad accounts assistant harassed him, pushing him towards suicide. Babu had been working as a contract driver for the chief accounts officer in the local zilla panchayat for over six years. The police received a call around 8:30 am about a man hanging from a tree near the Chikkaballapur Deputy Commissioner's office. Based on the complaint filed by Babu's wife, Shilpa, the authorities filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Sudhakar, Nagesh, and Manjunath, charging them with financial fraud, abetment to suicide, and violations under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Sudhakar expressed sorrow over Babu's death but denied any involvement, stating, "I heard about the suicide at the DC office in Chikkaballapura. It has deeply saddened me. I offer my condolences to the family. I have never seen or met this person, Babu, in my public life." He added that he has helped many young people find jobs and couldn't understand why his name appeared in the note. Superintendent of Police Kushal Chouksey said, "These are serious allegations. Police Case Filed Against BJP MP, 2 Others After Driver Dies By Suicide In Karnataka
Bengaluru: A police case has been filed against BJP MP K Sudhakar and two others after a 30-year-old man, who worked as a driver, named them in a note before he died by suicide in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur. The driver, M Babu, died by suicide on Thursday morning, following which his wife, Shilpa, filed a police complaint based on the note he left behind. The first information report (FIR) charged Mr Sudhakar and two others, Nagesh and Manjunath, with financial fraud, abetment to suicide and atrocity under the BNS and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. In the note, Babu alleged Mr Sudhakar and Nagesh cheated him of Rs 25 lakh by promising him a job. He also accused a zilla parisha accounts assistant of pushing him to die by suicide. The police said Babu had been working as a contract driver for the chief accounts officer in the zilla panchayat for over six years. "A suicide was reported at Chikkaballapura DC office premises. We received information at around 8.30 am that someone had died by hanging from a tree," Superintendent of Police Kushal Chouksey told news agency PTI. Babu alleged Nagesh and the accounts assistant "cheated him of several lakhs of rupees", claiming they could help him secure a government job "using the MP's influence". "These are serious allegations. A thorough investigation will determine whether the MP was directly involved or if his name was misused. We are examining all angles," the officer said. In the FIR, Mr Sudhakar has been named as accused 1, Nagesh as accused 2 and Manjunatha as accused 3. Earlier in the day, Mr Sudhakar told reporters in Delhi that he was "deeply pained" by the death but denied any connection to the tragedy. "I heard about the suicide at the DC office in Chikkaballapura. It has deeply saddened me. I offer my condolences to the family. I have never seen or met this person, Babu, in my public life," Mr Sudhakar said. The MP, a former minister and three-time MLA, said he helped many young people secure employment and did not understand why his name was mentioned in the note. "I have no information about the other two individuals named in the note. I've heard that Nagesh and Manjunath allegedly promised Babu a job and took Rs 10-15 lakh from him. I don't know them personally," the BJP MP said.
