Steelers All-Pro K Chris Boswell 'privately' looking for new deal, per report
The contract news keeps on rolling in Pittsburgh — as ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed another All-Pro Steeler is looking for a payday. Shortly after reporting the Steelers haven't made any progress on a restructured deal with veteran DT Cameron Heyward, Schefter reported K Chris Boswell is looking for a new contract extension with Pittsburgh. "In addition to Cam Heyward, All-Pro kicker Chris Boswell privately has been seeking a new contract from the Steelers, per source," Schefter wrote on X. "Despite being voted first-team All-Pro, Boswell was the AFC North's lowest-paid kicker last season. Three years ago, Boswell signed a contract that tied him with Justin Tucker as the NFL's highest-paid kicker; but that market also has been reset the past two years." In August 2024, Harrison Butker became the NFL's highest-paid kicker — signing a four-year, $25.6 million extension with the Kansas City Chiefs. His $6.4 million average per year completely reset the market — and considering Boswell is arguably the best kicker in the league, a new contract could well exceed that amount. Boswell is not playing in the preseason opener vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars, as are 14 other healthy Steelers, but we at Steelers Wire will keep you updated as more information becomes available. Browns set to keep all four QBs according to ESPN's Adam Schefter
While the Cleveland Browns' quarterback room seems crowded now, one NFL insider doesn't expect much downsizing at the position heading into the regular season. ESPN's Adam Schefter shared on Tuesday's edition of The Adam Schefter Podcast that he believes the Browns are "more likely than not" to carry four quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster. Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco and both rookie quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, will make the Browns' roster, Schefter believes. That leaves one spot for Kenny Pickett and newly-acquired Tyler Huntley to battle over, and Schefter thinks Pickett might be a more valuable asset for the Browns to have on their roster: 'Kenny Pickett is still young. Kenny Pickett is a former first-round draft pick. Kenny Pickett is a quarterback. Teams that have a need at that position, if they have an injury, you would think that one of the first teams they would call would be the Cleveland Browns.' Schefter's prediction comes on the heels of news that only Sanders and Huntley are likely to get snaps at quarterback in Friday's preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers. So while Sanders' first NFL snaps will be this weekend's biggest story, perhaps this also presents an opportunity for Huntley to close the gap in the race for the final quarterback spot on the Browns' roster. Adam Schefter's latest Matthew Stafford injury update is the most encouraging one yet
Schefter says the Rams believe Stafford could play in a game today There's unquestionably a lot to be excited about when it comes to the Los Angeles Rams this year, but Matthew Stafford's ongoing absence continues to be a concern hanging over the team. He didn't take a single snap during the two weeks of training camp at Loyola Marymount and the Rams haven't given a timetable for his return. Fortunately, ESPN's Adam Schefter is here to pull everyone's hands away from the panic button. During an appearance on 'NFL Live' Monday, Schefter offered an encouraging update on the Rams quarterback, saying that the team believes Stafford could play a game today if necessary. 'Matthew Stafford still hasn't practiced in training camp due to a lingering back injury, but the Rams do not sound concerned,' he said. 'This sounds more like a maintenance issue where they're being smart with their 37-year-old quarterback who they feel like doesn't need the work necessarily right now. And they feel like if there were a game today, Matthew Stafford would be able to play. So again, disconcerting that your quarterback's not practicing, but it doesn't sound overly alarming right now.' Schefter circled back around to Stafford's status and wrapped up the segment by saying this. 'In relation to Stafford's back, I would invoke the phrase that Jerry Jones has used: Don't lose sleep on it. Don't worry about it,' he said. Stafford has been dealing with back soreness, which popped up during the summer break before camp. He hasn't done any actual quarterback drills with the team and has strictly been going through his own workouts with the training staff, which is part of the reason some fans are worried. Sean McVay has said the team is 'very confident' he'll be ready for Week 1 and though the coach isn't saying publicly when Stafford will be back, the Rams have a plan in place. With about four weeks to go until the start of the season, he has time to get healthy before the Rams host the Texans on Sept. 7.

Micah Parsons and Cowboys "further away from a deal" amid contract standoff: Report
The high-profile standoff between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys continues to boil over as the star defensive end seeks a contract extension. With question marks surrounding his future with America's Team, ESPN's Adam Schefter claimed the negotiations have stalled between the parties. On Tuesday, the NFL Insider appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and said the Cowboys and Parsons are "further away from a deal in late July, early August than we were in late March, early April." "The two sides have gone backwards, not forwards. I don't think they're speaking very much these days, if at all," Schefter added. "This negotiation, when it was a negotiation, has gone sideways. It's not a negotiation right now. There's really no conversation about getting a deal done. "That could change next week. It could change shortly before the season. We've seen how long Dallas sometimes waits on some of these deals. See CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott last season." Parsons is campaigning for a massive contract extension while exercising a fifth-year player option on his rookie deal. As negotiations continue, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones insisted that the team wants to pay Parsons. On Sunday, Jones spoke on Parsons' status after Cowboys fans jeered his father, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, over the absence of Parsons' extension. "We want to pay Micah, too. He's gotta want to be paid,' Jones said. According to Schefter, the frustrations continue to hover over the deal as the situation sounds "a little bit more personal from both sides." "It sounds like Dallas is upset with the fact [that] it felt like it was getting closer to a deal and that deal went sideways. And I think Micah Parsons feels like this deal should have been done," Schefter added. "I don't think Micah's real happy with them. I don't think they're real happy with him. I don't think anybody's real happy with anybody, and I don't think there's a deal that's being discussed right now, not to mention being close." Despite struggling to find a common ground with the front office, Parsons has expressed his interest in staying in Dallas. In June, the 26-year-old reiterated wanting to sign a new deal before reporting to training camp. "I'm pretty hopeful. I'm still hanging tight. I understand it's up to [Jerry Jones]. He gives the green light on everything. So hopefully something is done by next month," Parsons said then. Come July, statements took a harsher tone with Jerry Jones saying, "Just because we sign him, doesn't mean we're going to have him." "He was hurt [four, not six] games last year. Seriously. I remember signing a player for the highest paid at the position in the league, and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year, Dak Prescott," Jones continued. "So there's a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does when you're thinking about committing and guaranteeing money." Parsons has since claimed that his agent has been reaching out, though he's realistic regarding the possibility that the two sides could ultimately fail to reach a long-term deal suitable for both parties. "As far as I'm here and under contract, I'm going to do what I have to do to perform at the highest level, but if this is the end, this is the end," Parsons shared in a recent training camp presser, courtesy of The Athletic's Jon Machota. The discussions are taking place as the Cowboys prepare for their first season under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who replaced Mike McCarthy after five seasons. The Cowboys look to bounce back from a 7-10 season. Parsons recorded 30 solo and 13 assisted tackles in his fourth year in Dallas, including 12 sacks over 13 games played. The two-time first-team All-Pro has recorded 12+ sacks in each of his four seasons with the Cowboys.

Latest update on $110 million DT, potential Patriots free agent target
The news that the Las Vegas Raiders cut defensive tackle Christian Wilkins one year into his four-year, $110 million deal was obviously surprising. ESPN's Adam Schefter provided context around an alleged incident that might have been one of the reasons why the team decided it was time to part ways. According to Schefter, Wilkins playfully went to kiss a teammate on top of the head, and the player took offense to that action. 'From speaking to people inside the locker room, I think what everybody's dancing around, and tiptoeing around, is the fact that when you speak to people there inside the locker room, they say that Christian playfully went to kiss a teammate on top of his head, and people said that player took offense to it," Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show. Wilkins recorded 17 tackles and two sacks last season in only five game appearances for the Raiders, before suffering a season-ending foot injury. New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel stated last week that the team would have a conversation about signing Wilkins. He has some familiarity with the former first-round draft pick from trying to recruit him in college, when he coached at Ohio State. Wilkins racked up 65 tackles, nine sacks, two pass deflections and two fumble recoveries in his final year with the Miami Dolphins in 2023. If healthy, he could be a massive addition to the Patriots' defensive front.
