ELDORADO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) —Tucked away in Eldorado is a hidden gem in the brand new Schleicher County Public Library. You can find the new library on the other side of the Eldorado Service Center. Michelle Bischoffberger is the library director and said this new library has been a project years in the making.
'This building used to be the old hospital…and this side used to be the clinic, and so I guess about four years ago there was talk at the commissioners court that maybe we can open a new library and it could be over here in this part of the clinic…'Bischoffberger said.

Four years later, the library on the other side of the clinic has been turned into the new library. Bischoffberger says that over $900,000 in grant funding was secured to bring this vision to life. She says they received help from an outside architect organization whose focus is on helping rural libraries. This organization helped design the library and pick furniture, which was all done years before construction in the new space began.
'We gutted the whole place out down to the studs and everything…we built everything in this library so it is all brand new,' Bischoffberger said.
In this library space, Bischoffberger said she is able to accommodate more people than she ever could in the old space.
'I always did summer programs and stuff, but I could only have…I mean I only had a little tiny space for that….instead of being cramped in a little room with 15-20 kids, I have a nice big room so that we can spread out,' Bischoffberger said.

She is still able to offer the same amenities one would hope to find in a library, along with some new ones.
'We've got the reading, we have computers, we have a large meeting room that people can use for pretty much anything they want to use…then we have two study rooms so when school happens…and they want they want to come over after school and use the study rooms they can do that,' Bischoffberger said.

More than anything material, Bischoffberger said she wanted to create a space that could be used by the entire community and bring a little taste of a bigger city library to small-town Eldorado.
'It's for them and for them to have all the best things that might be in a city, but it's right here in Eldorado, and I want them to be very proud of it,' Bischoffberger said.
