Trainers Richard, Will Freedman saddle I Am Brave at Rosehill

Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. I Am Brave, the brilliant filly who made headlines at the Scone Cup carnival, puts her unbeaten record on the line in the Midway Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. Trainers Richard and Will Freedman sent I Am Brave to the races for the first time at Scone two weeks and the three-year-old filly dominated her rivals to win a 1000m maiden. She was heavily backed into $1.75 favouritism and scored with authority, recording a slick 57.07sec despite the Soft 7 track rating. The Freedmans could have chosen an easier race than a Midway for I Am Brave's second start but it is an indication of how highly they race the filly that are prepared to chance their arm at Rosehill. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. 'But it has taken us a while to get her to the track, and there have been reasons for that, so we don't want to push her too far in her first race preparation. 'So, this will probably be her last run before we give her a break. She's a nice filly and we will be even better again in the new season.'' I Am Brave, a daughter of Yarraman Park's super sire I Am Invincible, is at $4.60 in early TAB Fixed Odds betting and is challenging Harry's Bar ($4.40) for favouritism. The Freedman stable also prepared Walking Painting to win at the Scone carnival and the gelding will line up at Rosehill in the Captivant At Kia Ora Handicap (1800m). • Gibbons' injury silver lining: 'It was a break I didn't know I wanted but really needed' Unlike stablemate I Am Brave, former French galloper Walking Painting was unwanted in betting at $21 but broke through for his first Australian win with an all-the-way effort in a Scone Midway. 'Walking Painting's win rated quite highly for a Midway,'' Freedman said. 'I think the key to him is it has taken a while to work out his quirks but we feel now that he prefers soft tracks. 'We had some issues with his hind fetlocks and we had to re-shoe him different ways to work out what was best for him.'' Freedman is also optimistic Zoubaby ($26) can run an improved race back on a firmer Eagle Farm track for Saturday's Listed $160,000 Helen Coughlan Stakes (1200m). • 'Hope the right decision was made': Rosehill trainers react to sale vote Meanwhile, Freedman's improving filly Let's Fly, who romped home by nearly six lengths at Randwick last week, will be given her chance in the Group 1 $700,000 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm on June 7. 'We paid the late nomination for her during the week and the plan is for her to go to the Oaks,'' Freedman said. 'She's come through her Randwick win in really good order and we feel she deserves her opportunity.'' Sweet smell of success for soft surface specialist Honey Perfume

He might be based in Sydney, but the provincial circuit is proving a home away from home for Warwick Farm trainer Matthew Smith. And he's looking to add to provincial pickings at Thursday's Gosford meeting when promising filly Honey Perfume lines up in the final race on a surface slowly drying out after a week of relentless rain. Still rated a Heavy 10 through Wednesday, clearing and sunny skies in the lead-up should see the track improve to at least a Heavy 8. And on a day when half the card could be dominated by short-priced favourites across small fields, Honey Perfume boasts the scent of success, and a second win from her last three starts in a moderate Class 1 Handicap over 1200m to close the meeting. A consistent three-year-old daughter of Toronado, Honey Perfume opened odds-on ahead of her first outing on a likely heavy-rated surface. But she has been a model of consistency in soft ground over the last month, and looks to have this field at her mercy. Two starts ago she powered home for a dominant maiden win at Goulburn before missing by a nose behind the promising Shropshire Lad after doing plenty of early work from a wide draw in a deeper Class 1 on Scone Cup day. That run augurs well for this race where she's drawn a middle gate, again with Keegan Latham in the saddle. In fact, only two other runners were quoted in single figures across early markets, and it's a similar story in a few other races earlier on the program.

Kris Lees leaning towards Lord Mayor's Cup at Eagle Farm for Tavi Time

Trainer Kris Lees has confirmed Tavi Time will run in the Lord Mayor's Cup – but it is most likely at Eagle Farm and not Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. Tavi Time, the last-start Scone Cup winner, is entered for two races of the same name and is topweight with 59.5kg for Sydney's version, a Listed race worth $200,000 and run over 2000m. • Racenet iQ members get full access to our Pro Tips service, where Greg Polson and our team of professional punters provide daily tips with fully transparent return on investment statistics. 'I would say Tavi Time will go to Queensland to run in the Lord Mayor's Cup at Eagle Farm,'' Lees said. 'The Eagle Farm race is 1800m so that is a nice progression. I was trying to find a mile race for him but there wasn't much on offer. 'Tavi Time was really good in the Scone Cup, he's trained on well, and I'm very happy with him. He's only early in his preparation so he should be right at his peak for Saturday.'' Lees also has Amokura ready to make her return to racing in Sydney's Lord Mayor's Cup with the mare allocated 56.5kg. Amokura hasn't won since her Group 1 Queensland Oaks triumph two years ago but Lees said the mare is coming up well after having nearly 12 months off racing. 'She's had a long grounding for this preparation and will appreciate some give in the track,'' Lees said. 'But I just don't want it really heavy for her first-up so we will have a good look at our options in the next couple of days.'' The champion Newcastle trainer has a strong team of nine entered for the Rosehill meeting including Rogue Bear (Benchmark 78 Handicap, 1500m), Kind Words (Benchmark 78 Handicap, 1800m), First Person (Benchmark 78 Handicap, 1200m), Power Of The Brave and Alliri (Benchmark 72 Handicap, 1100m), Like Luke (Benchmark 72 Handicap, 1500m), and Damien (2YO Handicap, 1300m). Interestingly, Lees has accepted with his emerging filly Eclair Encore in the Group 1 $1m Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Eclair Encore is first emergency after the Derby attracted a full field of 18 including three fillies, Femminile, Belle Detelle and Chase Your Dreams. 'We weren't sure where Eclair Encore is in the order of entry for the Oaks next week so for that reason we decided to go to the Derby,'' the trainer revealed. 'She was a bit unlucky last start and is a filly that will stay. We could even back up with her in the Oaks if she comes through Saturday in good order.'' Lees revealed he has never prepared a Derby winner during his celebrated training career but his late father, Max, did win a Queensland Derby with County Tyrone in 2002.
