Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors With the news that Ryan Kiera Armstrong of "Skeleton Crew" fame will be the new Slayer joining Sarah Michelle Gellar in her continuing adventures in the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" sequel series, the continuation of the Buffyverse feels closer than ever. Faith (Eliza Dushku) While she was a villain, Faith was one of Buffy's fiercest enemies, but with her redemption in Season 7 of the original "Buffy" series, she would make an even more satisfying guest appearance as an ally. Presumably, Buffy's going to be something of a mentor to Armstrong's younger Slayer, and an episode or two where Faith returns to teach her an alternate, less "academic" approach to slaying would be interesting. 4. Angel (David Boreanaz) There are going to be some obvious difficulties in bringing back any characters who played vampires - how can they play characters blessed with eternal youth when the actors are decades older? But the doomed romance between Buffy and Angel was at the very heart of the original series. Not to feature at least a cameo from the guy feels criminal. 3. Spike (James Marsters) Spike sacrifices himself in the original "Buffy" series finale, but thankfully, he's brought back in the fifth and final season of the spinoff "Angel". It might be a stretch to say that Spike and Buffy have any kind of unfinished business and it would likely be a good idea to leave any kind of romance between them in the past. But still, few characters in "Buffy" were as charismatic or beloved as Spike, and like Angel he deserves at least a cameo or two. 2. Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) As Buffy is trying to teach the new Slayer the ropes, she's going to find herself challenged, and who better to both give Buffy some tips and to perhaps enjoy watching her fall into familiar pitfalls than the librarian who suffered so many concussions as Buffy's Watcher? 1. Willow (Alyson Hannigan) Perhaps no one needs to have a guest appearance in the new series than Alyson Hannigan as Buffy's best friend Willow. Their friendship was the glue that kept the Scoobs together, and we know if Willow could help Buffy with anything to do with the new challenges she's facing, the powerful witch would be there in a second.
