Birds rally past Cougars for fourth consecutive victory
Geneva, IL (Canaries) – The Sioux Falls Canaries rallied to top Kane County 7-4 on Friday, stretching their winning streak to a season-high four games. Kane County jumped ahead in the fourth inning with a two-out, two-run double. Sioux Falls responded with three runs in the top of the sixth. Jordan Barth delivered an RBI single before Scott Combs tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Trevor Achenbach added an RBI base hit to give the Birds a 3-2 lead. The Cougars tied the game with a run in the sixth and retook the lead in the seventh with an RBI single. But the Canaries struck again in the eighth. Jabari Henry put Sioux Falls in front for good with a two-out, two-run double and he came around to score on an RBI single from Josh Rehwaldt. Combs added insurance with an RBI single in the ninth. Barth, Combs, Achenbach and Rehwaldt each finished with two hits for the Canaries, who have now won eight of their last ten games. Tanner Brown struckout six over six innings and Brady Stover tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his sixth save. Big fourth inning dooms Canaries in Kansas City
Kansas City, Kan. (Canaries) — A four-run fourth inning proved to be the difference Saturday as Kansas City topped the Canaries 5-3 at Legends Field. The Monarchs scored in the opening inning on a passed ball but the Birds jumped in front with two runs in the third. Scott Combs led off the frame with a double and scored when Jordan Barth doubled to centerfield. Barth later raced home on a base hit from Calvin Estrada. But Kansas City answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to jump in front for good. Mike Hart drew a leadoff walk in the seventh inning and scored on a sacrifice flyout from Scott Combs but the Birds could get no closer. Jordan Barth had to two hits to lead the Canaries offensively as Sioux Falls dips to 9-12 overall. The two teams wrap up their three game series Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Henry homers, Canaries fall to Milwaukee
FRANKLIN, WI (CANARIES) — Jabari Henry moved within one homerun of tying Reggie Abercrombie for the all-time American Association record as the Canaries fell to Milwaukee 9-4 on Friday. Henry smacked a two-run shot in the top of the first inning, his 145th career longball. Trevor Achenbach led off the top of the second with a double and later scored on a fielder's choice but Milwaukee responded with nine unanswered runs over the next three innings and never looked back. The Canaries scored a run in the top of the eighth when Scott Combs drove in Mike Hart with a sacrifice groundout. Five different Canaries recorded a hit while Zach Veen and Will Levine each struck out one during a scoreless relief inning. The Birds are now 6-7 and return to action Saturday at 6:00pm.
