Islanders acquire D Scott Perunovich in trade with Blues
The Islanders have acquired defenseman Scott Perunovich from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Perunovich has appeared in 24 games this season, recording two goals and four assists. He was originally selected in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft out of the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he took home the Hobey Baker Award after producing six goals and 34 assists during his senior season. He also represented the United States at the 2018 World Junior Championships and 2023 World Championships. Perunovich recently found himself on the outside looking in at playing time with St. Louis, having appeared in just two games since the calendar flipped to the new year. The offensive-minded defenseman should immediately find minutes with the Isles after Ryan Pulock landed on injured reserve earlier in the day with an upper-body injury suffered during Saturday's game.

Islanders place D Ryan Pulock, G Marcus Hogberg on IR
January 27 - The New York Islanders placed defenseman Ryan Pulock and goaltender Marcus Hogberg on injured reserve on Monday due to upper-body injuries. The moves are retroactive to Saturday, when they were injured during a 3-2 overtime win against the Carolina Hurricanes. Pulock, 30, left the game on his first shift after getting a leg taken out by Carolina forward Jackson Blake behind the Islanders' net. Hogberg, 30, made 24 saves in regulation and was replaced by Ilya Sorokin for overtime. Hogberg appeared to injure his right hand after making a save on Shayne Gostibehere's shot before the two collided just outside the crease. "You don't like losing players, especially the way they were playing, they were playing really well for us," Islanders coach Patrick Roy said on Monday. "They're important players, but at the same time, it's a good opportunity for other guys to take advantage of it." In 48 games this season, Pulock has 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) with a plus-7 plus/minus rating, 10 penalty minutes and a team-high 105 blocks while averaging 21:55 of ice time. He has spent his entire career with the Islanders, who selected him 15th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Pulock has 51 career goals, 156 assists, 101 penalty minutes and 1,003 blocks in averaging 21:17 of ice time in 534 regular-season games. Pulock also has eight goals and 19 assists in 66 playoff games. Hogberg is 2-2-0 in his first season with the Islanders with a 1.45 goals-against average and .947 save percentage in seven games (five starts). He signed a two-year contract as a free agent in May after parts of three seasons (2018-21) with the Ottawa Senators, who picked him in the third round of the 2013 draft. Hogberg is a career 11-19-9 with a 3.14 GAA and .900 save percentage in 49 games. In a corresponding move, the Islanders recalled goalie Jakub Skarek, 25, from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. Skarek, who has yet to make his NHL debut, is 5-11-1 with a 3.22 GAA and .895 save percentage in 20 AHL games. The Islanders also acquired defenseman Scott Perunovich on Monday from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Perunovich, 26, has two goals and four assists in 24 games this season. A second-round draft pick in 2018, Perunovich has two goals and 27 assists in 97 career regular-season games and four assists in seven postseason games.

Blues Trade Perunovich To Islanders
ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues traded Scott Perunovich to the New York Islanders for a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft on Monday, ending a tumultuous time in St. Louis for the defenseman. The 2020 Hobey Baker Award winner has played in just 97 games in the NHL since the Blues drafted the left-handed blueliner in the second round in 2018, a career marred by injuries and never being able to climb the ladder of becoming a regular in the lineup. The Islanders can use another defenseman in light of an injury to Ryan Pulock. The Blues and Islanders also pulled off a trade together last season when the Blues sent veteran defenseman Robert Bortuzzo to New York when the Islanders were dealing with injuries. Perunovich, 26, has been a healthy scratch the past nine games and has played in just 24 games this season, scoring his first two NHL goals and having four assists. Perunovich has been the seventh defenseman for much of the season and most recently, the seventh D-man with Tyler Tucker passing him on the depth chart. When and if Nick Leddy (lower-body injury) returns to the lineup, it would have further moved Perunovich down the lineup. There has been obvious growing frustration by the player to be more of a player in the lineup but since Tucker's recall, that hasn't materialized. Perunovich has been healthy-scratched 26 games this season. Overall, Perunovich has 29 points (two goals, 27 assists) spanning three seasons; he was forced to miss the 2022-23 regular-season with a broken left clavicle.
