Famous visitors include Harry Styles, Pippa Middleton, and Benedict Cumberbatch. Now bosses are set to take over the former stock exchange building at Glasgow's Nelson Mandela Place. Dishoom has agreed a 20-year lease and will occupy 7,000 sq ft across the ground and basement floors of the listed building, Insider reports. It's understood the new restaurant will open this summer. Glasgow residents flocked to the comments to react to the exciting news. One wrote: "Finally!" Another said: "We have to go." A third added: "This is exciting." A fourth weighed in: "Can't wait, it's amazing." Top Scottish Indian Restaurants Shine Globally A description of the Edinburgh branch, on the capital's St Andrew Square reads: "Scottish botanist, sociologist and town planner Patrick Geddes (1854–1932) was invited to Bombay in 1915. "While there, he founded the department of Sociology & Civics at Bombay University, and continually sought to better society by improving civic facilities and creating shared environments. "At Dishoom Edinburgh, we pay tribute to Geddes' big-hearted character, his visionary thinking and his humanist ideals. Open all day, every day, serving Bombay comfort food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening tipples. All are welcome." It comes days after Scotland's best Indian restaurant was named in this year's national awards. The Scottish Curry Awards 2025 were held in Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow, celebrating the best curry houses and chefs across the country. The prestigious event spotlights Scotland's rich and diverse curry culture as well as and encouraging the future the industry. And coming out on top as the Indian Restaurant Of The Year was Annapurna Gurkha's Restaurant, in Kirkcaldy. The venue prides itself on top quality and service, as well as competitive prices.

A Fife publican is opening her third venue, while changes at the Overgate in Dundee and in Perth city centre are among the other developments on local high streets. Lauren Hutchison, 26, who already runs The Steadings and Alfie's in Kirkcaldy, has taken over The Glen Tavern in Dunfermline – promising 'positive changes'. The Pittencrieff Street venue shut suddenly in February when the firm previously running it went into liquidation. A new tenant is being sought for a historic former Bridge of Allan pub and restaurant. The Old Bridge Inn on Inverallan Road, which dates from 1710, is being offered for lease as a 'rare opportunity'. Kirkcaldy's former Society nightclub has reopened as The Venue. Ross Anderson, 37, has taken over the Charlotte Street building alongside a group of silent investors with The Courier invited for a first look. An image of a new McDonald's restaurant planned for Dundee has been revealed as part of a public consultation. Readers of The Courier have also reacted to the plans for the firm's fourth city outlet. Niamh Kilcullen and Caitlin Harris, both 24, have opened Blend Studios in a former window showroom on Mains Road on the edge of Hilltown. Danish furniture and homeware brand Sostrene Grene is opening in the Thistles shopping centre in Stirling this summer. The firm – which has an outlet in Dundee's Overgate – will move into a unit next to Superdrug.

Newton Mearns restaurant named as having most 'innovative menu'
The Malletsheugh in East Renfrewshire scooped the Innovative Menu of the Year accolade at the Scottish Curry Awards 2025. The awards ceremony took place at the Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow on Monday, April 14. It aims to recognise and celebrate the 'talents and hard work of individuals and businesses in the Scottish curry industry'. READ MORE: Popular Glasgow restaurant named the 'best' in the city The Malletsheugh's Pav Birk said: 'We are beyond thrilled that people seem to get what we are trying to do here – the restaurant is our family dream and it's beautiful to see people embrace it. 'I've been strong-armed into leaving the kitchen to come along tonight, by my brothers and our mum – I wasn't happy, but I'm glad now I listened. It's a real honour to pick up these titles. 'We really pride ourselves on our menu and on listening to customers and taking lots of care and attention to ensure there's something for everyone – we designed the menu thinking of families or groups and the different tastes and preferences. 'So we have everything from the hottest curry to the most simple of European offerings. 'My passion is for the Indian side of cuisine, and we really push the boundaries, bringing in different flavour profiles and ideas, with lots of inspiration from our own family, especially my dad and grandad, who were pioneers in Indian food in Scotland. 'It's all in honour of them, so winning the Innovative Menu of the Year award feels like we're doing things in a way they would approve. It really does mean the world to us.' On top of the Innovative Menu of the Year accolade, the food spot also won an Outstanding Achievement nod in the hotly contested Best Of Greater Glasgow category. 'We know we go above and beyond on everything we do, and it's very rewarding to see that people understand that and appreciate it. 'We have to thank everyone who makes The Malletsheugh so special, from our amazing team to the most important people of all, those around us who have made us part of the community. 'We try to give back and help local causes because we have really been accepted and welcomed by the local community – that's the biggest reward. 'But of course, these awards are pretty nice too.'
