Newton Mearns restaurant named as having most 'innovative menu'
The Malletsheugh in East Renfrewshire scooped the Innovative Menu of the Year accolade at the Scottish Curry Awards 2025.
The awards ceremony took place at the Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow on Monday, April 14.
It aims to recognise and celebrate the 'talents and hard work of individuals and businesses in the Scottish curry industry'.

The Malletsheugh's Pav Birk said: 'We are beyond thrilled that people seem to get what we are trying to do here – the restaurant is our family dream and it's beautiful to see people embrace it.
'I've been strong-armed into leaving the kitchen to come along tonight, by my brothers and our mum – I wasn't happy, but I'm glad now I listened. It's a real honour to pick up these titles.
'We really pride ourselves on our menu and on listening to customers and taking lots of care and attention to ensure there's something for everyone – we designed the menu thinking of families or groups and the different tastes and preferences.
'So we have everything from the hottest curry to the most simple of European offerings.
'My passion is for the Indian side of cuisine, and we really push the boundaries, bringing in different flavour profiles and ideas, with lots of inspiration from our own family, especially my dad and grandad, who were pioneers in Indian food in Scotland.
'It's all in honour of them, so winning the Innovative Menu of the Year award feels like we're doing things in a way they would approve. It really does mean the world to us.'
On top of the Innovative Menu of the Year accolade, the food spot also won an Outstanding Achievement nod in the hotly contested Best Of Greater Glasgow category.

Pav added: 'Glasgow is renowned for some of the best curries in the world, so this is another big win for us.
'We know we go above and beyond on everything we do, and it's very rewarding to see that people understand that and appreciate it.
'We're not even two years in, so it's incredible to step back and look at achievements like this – but we are just getting started.
'We have to thank everyone who makes The Malletsheugh so special, from our amazing team to the most important people of all, those around us who have made us part of the community.
'We try to give back and help local causes because we have really been accepted and welcomed by the local community – that's the biggest reward.
'But of course, these awards are pretty nice too.'

River Island's official accounts for 2023 show the retailers made a £33.2m loss before tax. And their turnover plummeted by 19 per cent during the same time. No decision has yet to be made but it is understood a restructuring plan could be published in weeks. Businesses often put together a restructuring plan to prevent them from becoming insolvent and going out of business. The firm has been facing pressures from the online market where punters can buy their clothes quicker. Their most recent accounts statement to Companies House blamed "global events" for supply chain issues. It read: "The market for retailing of fashion clothing is fast changing with customer preferences for more diverse, convenient and speedier shopping journeys and with increasing competition especially in the digital space. "The key business risks for the group are the pressures of a highly competitive and changing retail environment combined with increased economic uncertainty. Final sales begin as popular clothing brand closes all stores leaving 'devastated' shoppers scrambling for alternative "A number of geopolitical events have resulted in continuing supply chain disruption as well as energy, labour and food price increases, driving inflation and interest rates higher and resulting in weaker disposable income and lower consumer confidence." River Island has twenty stores north of the border. A spokesperson for the store declined to comment to Sky.

Patrick Stewart offers glimpse into how Rangers will approach first transfer window with Russell Martin and new owners

Russell Martin was confirmed as the Ibrox side's head coach on Thursday, following the arrival of Kevin Thelwell and Dan Purdy as sporting director and technical director. 2 Russell Martin and Patrick Stewart on the day Martin was unveiled as Rangers boss Credit: PA On May 30 the £90million takeover by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises was finally completed after months of negotiations. An initial £20million of investment has been promised and a share issue will follow to help raise more funds. With the Light Blues in Champions League qualifying action on July 22/23 and 29/30, the summer rebuild must start soon. We looked at how Martin could transform Rangers, in particular by recruiting trusted former players. Gers chief Stewart acknowledged there is a lot of ground to be made up on Celtic in the league, but believes Martin has arrived early enough for them to make signings before the Euro qualifiers next month. Speaking in an interview with Rangers TV, he said: 'There is a lot of hard work to be done, just to be clear. I think there always is every pre-season for Rangers because the European qualifiers come so early, so let's not shy away from that. 'That said, we have got Russell in and the transfer window doesn't open for another ten days and the first team don't return for another two weeks, so actually you could look at it glass half full and say we have got him in well in advance of those two key events. 'But let's not kid ourselves, there is a lot of hard work to be done but I know Russell is determined to get stuck into that. 'The potential of Rangers, we know it is unfulfilled at the moment. 'This is a huge club and supporters, players, management and staff, we have all been frustrated at not having achieved the heights. 'My excitement and optimism levels have definitely increased but they were always there because there is so much that is positive about this club.' Stewart was asked how Martin's experience in both Scotland and England during his career will help them in the recruitment process. He said that combining Martin's knowledge with Thelwell's contacts book should lead to positive results in the transfer market. Stewart said that they will pay close attention to the Scottish and English markets, as players there will have an understanding of the British game. But that won't stop them from scouting players further afield - the only condition being that they must ALREADY be suited to playing in Scotland, rather than trying to mould them into the finished product. He said: 'Having an understanding of the Scottish game I would say is a key factor because every league is unique and we can look at some of the fixtures that have to be played as part of the SPFL. 'Every ground has its nuances and every club has its nuances, so somebody that comes in with an understanding of that is a huge asset. 'Equally, when it comes to recruiting players having a knowledge of markets outside of Scotland and players outside of Scotland, and off-the-pitch talent outside of Scotland as well, is a huge advantage. Man Utd move ahead of Arsenal in Gyokeres race after Ratcliffe decision
Manchester United are back in the hunt for Viktor Gyokeres as they eye a new frontman with Sir Jim Ratcliffe's financial decisions potentially freeing up funds to land the Sporting Lisbon star Manchester United look to be leading the race for Viktor Gyokeres - leaping ahead of Arsenal as the Sporting Lisbon striker looks poised to move on this summer. Gyokeres has just smashed the 50-goal barrier in Portugal, helping his side claim the domestic double, but a move to pastures new is expected. Links to Manchester have been occurring since Ruben Amorim was appointed as manager - and a reunion is now on the cards. United are going after more firepower this summer, signing Matheus Cunha, and Gyokeres could be the man to lead their line. It is understood that the Swede is not put off by the lack of Champions League football and is open to the move. United's failure to qualify for European football initially looked like it would serious damage their hopes of spending big in the summer, but that may no longer be the case. The Sun reports that Sir Jim Ratcliffe's unpopular decisions could be about to bear fruit. His cost-cutting measures have seen numerous members of staff lose their job but the club's recently released quarterly account revealed that their operating expenses have dropped by over £40million. That could free up funds for United to go after Gyokeres, who is valued at around £65m. That is less than his release clause but the Swede has an agreement with Sporting to let him depart for less after he chose to stick around last summer. Already Amorim has captured Matheus Cunha for £62.5m. Arsenal have been heavily linked as they look to solve their issues in the final third but their primary target looks to be Benjamin Sesko at RB Leipzig. That could leave United a free path to go after Gyokeres. Throughout the campaign both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to inspire confidence leading the line at Old Trafford. As a result there was always expected to be movement in that area of the squad and that could lead to an overhaul. Gyokeres himself has spoken out on his future and recently said: 'Let us see. It's hard for me to say, because yeah it is football and you never know what's going to happen in the summer. So for me to say anything else than that is impossible.' United recently missed out on Liam Delap, who impressed for Ipswich throughout last season. He chose Chelsea over the Manchester outfit, moving to Stamford Bridge for £30m.
