Former Bucs CB and Super Bowl champion set to miss all of 2025

Former Bucs CB and Super Bowl champion set to miss all of 2025 A former Bucs Super Bowl cornerback is now set to miss the 2025 season after suffering an injury away from the field. Cardinals cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list last week. The injury and its severity were not and have not been reported at this time. ESPN's John Weinfuss reported the injury was known to the Cardinals before the NFL Draft, which affected their plans. As a result, they drafted both Will Johnson and Denzel Burke to add depth at the cornerback position to help cover his absence. Murphy-Bunting signed with the Cardinals after leaving the Bucs in 2024, signing a three-year, $25 million deal. Murphy-Bunting was drafted by the Bucs in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the 39th overall pick. While with the Bucs, he accumulated 188 total tackles, six tackles for a loss, six interceptions, with one being a pick-6. He also broke up 21 passes and played in 53 games for the team while being a member of their Super Bowl-winning team in 2020.

Arizona Cardinals CB Sean Murphy-Bunting had offseason knee injury that needed surgery

Arizona Cardinals CB Sean Murphy-Bunting had offseason knee injury that needed surgery Murphy-Bunting will not play in 2025 after sustaining an offseason knee injury that required surgery. The Arizona Cardinals placed cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting on the non-football injury reserve last week, ending his season before it even started. We did not know what happened. We still do not know exactly what occurred, but head coach Jonathan Gannon gave some insight when he addressed the media on Wednesday before the beginning of voluntary OTAs. "(It) happened in the off season (and he) had to have surgery to get it fixed," Gannon told reporters, "So he won't be able to play this year. It's a tough break for him, a tough break for us, but we'll move forward and so will he." He did not elaborate further but did indicate it was a knee injury. Murphy-Bunting remains under contract, although the team is not obligated to pay him in 2025. It is uncertain yet whether they will honor the contract, pay him something less or not pay him at all. He is under contract through 2026. His spot on the offseason roster, as of Wednesday morning, had not been filled. Arizona Cardinals cut DL Ben Stille

The Arizona Cardinals made a pair of roster moves on Thursday, neither of which they announced. They appeared on the NFL transaction report. One was playing cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting on the non-football injury reserve, ending his 2025 season months before it begins. This move we already covered. The other was a simple release from the offseason roster. Advertisement Defensive lineman Ben Stille was placed on waivers. The Cardinals now have two vacancies on their roster as they prepare to begin OTAs (voluntary organized team activities) next week. Over the last two seasons, Stille bounced between the practice squad and the active roster, appearing in eight games and logging three tackles, a sack, a tipped pass and a fumble recovery. He played 240 total snaps in those eight games. The defensive line room is quite full with additions in free agency and the NFL draft. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, he will be an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with any team. Advertisement With the two roster vacancies, we can expect a pair of signings before now and the start of OTAs on Wednesday after the holiday weekend. According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, they could bring in a free agent cornerback with some experience. Who could that be? Available experienced free agent CBs Asante Samuel Jr.: The Cardinals brought him in for a visit early in free agency. Coming off a neck injury, perhaps now he will be the target. James Bradberry: He is now almost 32 years old but he had his best season with Jonathan Gannon while playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. C.J. Henderson: He spent last season on injured reserve with the Pittsburgh Steelers but has 32 starts in his career with the Jaguars and Panthers. He is a former 2020 first-round draft pick. Caleb Farley: He hasn't ever played more than nine games in a season but has been in the league since 2021, drafted in the first round by the Titans, where Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort was before coming to the Cardinals.
