Record-Breaking Mohammadreza Shadloui Shines At PKL 12 Player Auction

Mohammadreza Shadloui created history at the outset after the Season 11's Most Valuable Player was snapped up for INR 2.23 Crores in the very first bid of the evening by Gujarat Giants. The two-time PKL champion is the first player to go for more than INR 2 Crore three times in PKL history. His purchase began a plethora of top signings as Day 1 of the Player Auction saw 10 players crossing the INR 1 Crore mark, setting a new record for PKL. Devank Dalal, who was the Best Raider in PKL 11, joined Shadloui in the 2 Crore category after he was eventually signed by Bengal Warriorz for INR 2.205 Crores, making him the fifth-most expensive player ever in PKL. A highlight of the Player Auction was the use of the new Final Bid Match (FBM) rule which allows teams to buy back their released players by matching the final auction bid price, for either one or two seasons. This FBM rule was used by Dabang Delhi K.C. to bring their star raider Ashu Malik back to the team for INR 1.90 Crores for the next two seasons. Arjun Deshwal, who was signed by Tamil Thalaivas for INR 1.405 Crores, and Yogesh Dahiya, who will join Bengaluru Bulls after being signed for INR 1.125 Crores, were the other top bids from Category A. After Category A saw 5 players bought for more than INR 1 Crore, Category B followed in the same vein. Ankit Jaglan was bought back by Patna Pirates for INR 1.573 Crore with the raise of an FBM card for one season, while Season 8 winner Naveen Kumar was the second-most expensive player in this Category, paid by Haryana Steelers for a price of INR 1.20 Crores. Guman Singh found himself among the Crorepati list yet again, this time being signed by UP Yoddhas for INR 1.073 Crores. Sachin Tanwar and Nitin Kumar rounded out the 10 Crorepatis of the PKL 12 Player Auction, bagging INR 1.058 Crores (Puneri Paltan) and INR 1.002 Crores (Jaipur Pink Panthers) respectively. "Day 1 of the PKL Season 12 Player Auction was a landmark moment, with a record-breaking 10 players crossing the Rs 1 crore mark across Categories A and B - reflecting the continued growth in player value and the league's evolution over the past decade. The introduction of the two-season Final Bid Match (FBM) rule also had an impact, with two teams choosing to retain players for a longer duration - highlighting our commitment to building continuity within squads. We now look forward to Day 2, as the franchisees build their squads for the upcoming season," said Mr. Anupam Goswami, Business Head, Mashal Sports & League Commissioner, Pro Kabaddi League. photoDetails english 2908915 Updated:May 31, 2025, 03:40 PM IST PKL Season 12 Auction Kicks Off 1 / 10 The highly awaited Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 12 Player Auction takes place on May 31 and June 1, 2025, in Mumbai. Over 500 players, including top Indian and international stars, are up for grabs, making it a blockbuster event for kabaddi fans and franchises alike. Stars Headline a Loaded Auction Pool 2 / 10 This year's auction features some of kabaddi's biggest names: Pawan Sehrawat, Arjun Deshwal, Ashu Malik, Devank Dalal, and global icons Fazel Atrachali and Mohammadreza Shadloui. Fans will also witness Naveen Kumar enter the auction for the very first time after six seasons with Dabang Delhi K.C. All Champions Return to the Auction Table 3 / 10 For the first time in PKL history, all players who led their teams to championship titles from Seasons 1 to 11 are available in the auction pool. This includes legends like Maninder Singh, Pardeep Narwal, Naveen Kumar, and Shadloui, giving teams a rare chance to sign proven winners. FBM Rule Gets a Game-Changing Upgrade 4 / 10 The Final Bid Match (FBM) rule has been significantly revised. Previously limited to retaining a player for one season, teams can now retain them for either one or two seasons, giving franchises more control over long-term team strategy and player retention. How the New FBM Rule Works 5 / 10 Under the updated rule, if a Season 11 player is bid on, their former team can use FBM by instantly raising a 1-season or 2-season FBM card. The first card shown is final, and the team gets the player at the highest bid price. If no card is raised, the player joins the highest bidder. FBM Allocation Per Team 6 / 10 Each team's number of FBM cards depends on its Elite Retained Players (ERP). Teams with 6 ERPs get 1 FBM, those with 5 ERPs get 2, and teams with 4 or fewer ERPs get 3 FBMs. This year, UP Yoddhas are the only team eligible for 2 FBMs; all others can use up to 3. Retention Before the Auction 7 / 10 Ahead of the auction, teams retained a total of 83 players: 25 Elite Retained Players (ERPs), 23 Retained Young Players (RYPs), and 35 New Young Players (NYPs). This leaves a maximum of 217 slots available for bidding across all franchises during the auction. Squad Size & Salary Purse 8 / 10 Each franchise must maintain a squad of 18 to 25 players. The starting purse for each team is ₹5 crore, adjusted based on their retained players. Teams can include a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 overseas players in their squads. Team Purse & Auction Strategy 9 / 10 Franchises like Dabang Delhi (₹45.6M) and Bengaluru Bulls (₹41.2M) enter with large purse balances, while UP Yoddhas have the least at ₹ 18.57 M. With varying squad sizes and budgets, every team's auction strategy will be unique and tactical. When and Where to Watch 10 / 10 Day 1 of the auction (May 31) will be led by Charu Sharma, while Mallika Sagar takes over on Day 2 (June 1). Fans can tune in from 7 PM IST on Star Sports Network and JioCinema, as the high-stakes drama unfolds live. All Images Credit: X, Pro Kabaddi

PKL 2025 Auction: New FBM rule, champion players pool; all you need to know

The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 12 Player Auction, scheduled for May 31 and June 1 in Mumbai, promises to be a landmark event in the sport's evolution. With over 500 players in the auction pool, including every PKL-winning player from the past 11 seasons, the stakes are higher than ever. The auction isn't just about building squads — it's about rewriting legacies. Teams are eyeing marquee names such as Pawan Sehrawat, Mohammadreza Shadloui and Pardeep Narwal, while fans are eager to see where stars like Naveen Kumar will land after his first-ever auction appearance. Organisers believe the new format and star-studded player pool will add 'unprecedented excitement and strategy' to the auction room. Champion players up for grabs For the first time in PKL history, every title-winning player from Season 1 to 11 is up for bidding. These legends include Maninder Singh (Seasons 1 & 7), Pardeep Narwal (Seasons 3, 4, 5) and Mohammadreza Shadloui (Seasons 10 & 11), among others. The opportunity to sign these proven match-winners is expected to fuel aggressive bidding wars among franchises. FBM rule gets a strategic makeover One of the biggest structural shifts this season is the revamped Final Bid Match (FBM) rule. Unlike before, teams can now retain a player for one or two seasons through FBM. League officials said this adjustment is aimed at enhancing squad continuity. Teams must declare their intent immediately once a former player draws a top bid — and whichever FBM card (one-season or two-season) is raised first will be binding. FBM and retention dynamics The number of FBMs a team can use depends on their Elite Retained Players (ERPs). While most teams are allowed up to three FBMs, UP Yoddhas can use only two. Overall, 83 players have already been retained — 25 as ERPs, 23 as Retained Young Players and 35 as New Young Players — leaving 217 auction spots open. Salary purse, squad limits, and auction format Each team begins with a ₹5-crore purse (adjusted for retentions) and can field a squad of 18 to 25 players, including up to four overseas names. Players are split across four base-price categories: ₹30 lakh (A), ₹20 lakh (B), ₹13 lakh (C) and ₹9 lakh (D), across raiders, defenders and all-rounders. The auction will be hosted by two well-known faces: Charu Sharma, PKL co-founder, returns for Day 1, while Mallika Sagar — now a seasoned auctioneer after her stints in the WPL and IPL — takes over on Day 2.
