9-1-1 Season 9: Burning Questions We Need Answered This Fall, From Athena's Next Steps to Buck's Big Move

It's been more than two weeks since 9-1-1 wrapped one of its most series-defining seasons yet (for better or worse), but that doesn't mean I've stopped thinking about the 118. In fact, the more time passes, the more time I've had to wonder how Season 9 could play out for each of our our fire-fighting favorites this fall. Without any concrete insight from showrunner Tim Minear (yet), it remains anyone's guess what the future holds for the 118 as they continue to find their way forward in the wake of Bobby's death. So what are we left to do in this situation? Why, wildly speculate, of course! More from TVLine 'Bonkers!': Ginnifer Goodwin Reflects on Once Upon a Time Musical Episode Anniversary - WATCH As Doctor Odyssey's Fate Hangs in the Balance, Joshua Jackson Thanks John Oliver for Viral Season 2 Renewal Plea General Hospital Recasts Michael: Former Y&R Actor Rory Gibson Replaces Chad Duell The season may have ended on a positive note for several characters (Maddie gave birth, Hen and Karen formally adopted Mara, the Diaz boys moved back Los Angeles, etc.), but it also left just as many characters at a crossroads, from Athena selling her house to Buck begrudgingly vacating Eddie's couch. Read on for the eight burning questions I have ahead of Season 9, including at least one I'm sure you'll hate, then drop a comment with your own queries below. This feels like one of the biggest question marks on our list. When Athena put her house on the market and drove away in the Season 8 finale, it felt like more than just a farewell to a plot of land. She was leaving her life with Bobby in the rearview, headed towards a fresh start. But what, exactly, does that mean for Athena? Where will she live? Will she remain a sergeant with the LAPD, or might she follow a new calling? And even though I feel like it's way too soon to think about this… might she still have another great love story left in her someday? Maddie's first pregnancy back in Season 5 led to a powerful storyline about postpartum depression, one which nearly cost Jennifer Love Hewitt's character her life. The Season 8 finale ended with the joyous birth of Maddie and Chimney's son, Robert 'Bobby' Nash Hahn, but it's hard not to worry about that joy being short-lived. Here's hoping Maddie has a much easier time with baby No. 2 — that poor woman has already been through enough! Speaking of people who have been through enough already, Season 8 ended on an extremely positive note for the Wilsons, as Hen and Karen officially adopted Mara into their family. But there's that word, 'family.' 9-1-1 seems to take a special delight in putting this particular family in jeopardy, whether it's via the return of a problematic biological parent, the menacing tactics of a vengeful councilwoman, or just the occasional freak accident that puts one or more of their lives in danger. So while I'm always relieved to see Hen and Karen enjoying even a fleeting moment of happiness, I can't help but wonder what future nightmares Season 9 has in store for them. Once Hen passed on the promotion to captain of the 118, Chimney became the next logical choice to fill Bobby's turnout gear — especially after that powerful finale speech. But just because Hen accidentally called him 'cap,' that doesn't mean the job is officially his… yet. Will he finally sign on the dotted line in the Season 9 premiere, or is this something he'll have to fight for? If the latter, who would he be up against? Season 8 finally gave Buddie fans what they've always wanted — Buck and Eddie living together under the same roof. Unfortunately, that dream turned out to be short-lived, as the finale ended with Buck moving out to find a place of his own. It was obvious that he didn't want to leave, telling his realtor that he liked how lived-in his last place felt, so there's always a chance he could end up back at Chateau Diaz. The only question is: would the show really be that good to us? Like all 9-1-1 viewers, I've had a soft spot for Ravi ever since his 'probie' days. And by the end of Season 8, he was really beginning to feel like a full-time member of the team — nay, a full-time member of the family. Heck, he was front and center for some of the season's most formative moments, from the death of Bobby to the birth of… also Bobby. This leaves me to wonder: when will 9-1-1 finally give actor Anirudh Pisharody a well-deserved promotion, potently revealing more about Ravi in the process? With Rescue: HI-Surf cancelled at Fox, Arielle Kebbel is now available to return to the 118's orbit, and I wouldn't hate that one bit. Besides being a Kebbel stan since the days of John Tucker Must Die, I've always considered Lucy to be an under-explored character with a lot of potential. Plus, once considered a viable love interest for Buck, Lucy would undoubtedly have a memorable reaction to the news of his recent bisexual awakening. Much like the show itself, I've had a complicated relationship with Buddie over the years. The spark between Buck and Eddie has been obvious since the latter joined the 118 in Season 2, but as time progressed, I began to give up hope. When Buck came out as bisexual in Season 7, however, everything changed. The idea of him and Eddie finally seeing what fans have seen for years was no longer a pipe dream, but rather a very real possibility. And Season 8 marked another undeniable milestone on the road to Buddieville, when Maddie asked her brother point blank if he's in love with his best friend. Buck denied having feelings for Eddie, of course, but his actions continue to speak otherwise. And they speak loudly. After cruelly taking Bobby from us, the least 9-1-1 can do now is give us Buddie in exchange. Is that really so much to ask? Diablo 4 season 9 brings new dungeon gauntlet and boss mechanics: Details

American video game developer and publisher, Blizzard Entertainment, has revealed the first major details of Diablo 4 Season 9, with a strong focus on revitalising endgame content following widespread criticism of Season 8. The new feature, titled Escalation Nightmares, will debut during the Public Test Realm (PTR) for Patch 2.3.0 from May 27 to June 3 and will be fully launched with the new season. Escalation nightmares: A stacked dungeon challenge According to a GameRant report, at the core of Season 9's endgame is Escalation Nightmares—a sequence of three chained Nightmare Dungeons. In this mode, affixes from each dungeon carry over to the next, progressively increasing difficulty. Blizzard has dubbed this feature the 'ultimate test,' offering players greater rewards for enduring mounting challenges. The final stage of this gauntlet culminates in a revamped boss fight against Exalted Astaroth. This version of the demon splits mid-battle into two independent bosses, forcing players to adapt to new attack patterns and combo mechanics. Season 9 aims to win back players after season 8 criticism As per GameRant, Season 8 was met with mixed reviews, with players expressing frustration over sluggish progression, limited build diversity, and reduced drop rates for rare items. Blizzard's new approach in Season 9 appears aimed at restoring confidence through a more challenging and rewarding endgame experience. More to come, but no expansion until 2026 While Season 9 leads the way, Blizzard has confirmed that a major expansion won't arrive until 2026. In the meantime, Seasons 9 and 10 will continue building on the 'Vessel of Hatred' storyline, with more updates expected as launch day approaches.

RHOA‘s Phaedra Parks Marks a New Era: ‘I'm Single, Satisfied & Successful'

Phaedra Parks throwing shade during the first few minutes of her return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta wasn't planned—it was instinct. 'I was just being myself,' Phaedra tells StyleCaster. 'And, you know, with Frick and Frack together, it's just fun,' she adds of reuniting with Porsha Williams on screen. More from StyleCaster Summer House's Amanda Batula Teases the Real Reason She Was 1st Seat at the Reunion: 'I Was Flabbergasted' (Exclusive) The Beauty of Coco Jones In case you missed it, Porsha popped over to Phaedra's house for the grand reveal of the popular attorney's return. Within seconds, Phaedra poked fun at newbies Brit Eady, Angela Oakley, and Kelli Ferrell. She teased Brit for being, well, outside, and affectionately referred to Kelli as a garden gnome. As for Angela, Phaedra claimed she didn't even know she was married to Charles Oakley. 'I didn't know,' she tells StyleCaster, doubling down. 'I've known him for years, and I had no idea he was married. I've never met Angela Oakley a day in my life. It's the truth.' A few days before Phaedra's return aired, Drew Sidora sat down with Carlos King and threw a little shade of her own, saying Phaedra didn't do much besides give the women 'faces.' Phaedra's response? 'Wolves bark at the moon, but when you're the moon, you keep shining.' Things are also better between Phaedra and Shamea Morton. Longtime RHOA fans know the two were on rocky terms before Phaedra's Season 9 exit, largely due to allegations that Shamea and Kandi Burruss had been intimate—among other things. But according to Phaedra, they've since made amends, thanks in part to a mutual friend: Fiskani Kaira, owner of The Ivy Showroom, where Phaedra is a silent partner. I don't have to worry about anyone else's opinions. '[Shamea] and I have crossed paths a lot because she frequents the showroom, we've worked together, and she even got my boys tickets to see the Atlanta Hawks,' Phaedra says. 'Our relationship has evolved. People evolve. Plus, it's been so long since I was last on the show.' While Phaedra and Shamea are on good terms now, Shamea and Porsha are not—at least, not like they used to be. The season explores the fallout of their friendship, which some fans say has been a long time coming. According to Phaedra, though, it's all about giving grace. 'Friendships are hard, and Porsha is obviously having a very rough time in her life. Navigating divorce, and doing that publicly, it's rough,' she says. 'When people are having marital issues and going through things, they're not at their best. She's at a place where she's just trying to remain sane. You need friends to just understand and support you.' Phaedra says she wants nothing more than to support Porsha, and gushes about their dynamic—one that was undeniably icy the last time we saw them together on Bravo. I'm free to be who I am. During the Season 9 reunion, Porsha alleged that Phaedra was the one who told her Kandi and Todd Burruss wanted to drug her. The rumor exploded, with all of the women in tears. Phaedra apologized, but her relationship with Kandi (who left following Season 16 after 14 years) has remained strained. After a hiatus, Phaedra returned to Bravo via Married to Medicine Season 10, before making her way back to RHOA following a tense M2M departure. 'They really wanted me back,' she says, adding that it was actually Porsha who made the call and asked her to rejoin. 'I want to be somewhere where I can make an impact. Porsha and I have always remained close, and the fans wanted to see me again. All of the things matched up for me, so when things align, I act in accordance.' Even though we're only one episode in, it already feels like Phaedra is back where she belongs. She seems noticeably happier than she was on Married to Medicine, which ended with her leaving the cast trip after her ex-husband Apollo Nida and his then-wife Sherien Copes showed up. She also skipped the M2M reunion. 'That's a different group of women,' she says of the doctors and doctors' wives. 'They're very different from the Housewives. The banter was very different. I mean, God bless. Housewives are just … very confident. I'll say that,' she adds with a smile. Still, there's no bad blood between her and the M2M cast. Phaedra says she's still in touch with a few, namely Dr. Contessa Metcalfe, Lateasha 'Sweet Tea' Lunceford, and Toya Bush-Harris. I want to be somewhere where I can make an impact. As for what to expect from Phaedra this season of RHOA, one thing's already clear: she's in a new era. The church hats and black tea dresses are gone. When she opened the door to greet Porsha, she was wearing head-to-toe Gucci and rocking platinum hair. What sparked the transformation? 'Well, when you first saw me, I was married to a person who was very controlling,' Phaedra says. 'Now, I'm free to be who I am, and I don't have to consider my partner. I'm single, satisfied, and successful. I can do what I want, and I don't have to worry about anyone else's opinions.' She says her fashion reflects her new mindset: 'Happy and free,' she adds. 'I'm just very happy.' While she's embracing this new chapter, one thing remains her top priority: motherhood. 'My career obviously affects my children,' she says of sons Ayden and Dylan, whom she shares with Apollo. 'We always have roundtables at our home about what I will and won't do. My first priority is always being a mother and protecting my boys. I'm not ever going to put them in any position where they have to defend me.' Surprisingly, it was her son Ayden who encouraged her to return. 'He remembers. Dylan, not so much, but Ayden definitely has vivid memories of being on television. So, if they're fine with it, I'm fine with it. That was pretty much the conversation before I accepted the job.' 9-1-1 Season 8 Finale: 118's New Captain & Tribute to Bobby After Death Explained

The Season 8 finale of aired on May 15, 2025, and concluded with a sweet tribute to Bobby Nash, and hinted at who would be the next captain. The series, which focuses on the lives of the first responders of Los Angeles, debuted initially in January 2018. Since then, it has been one of the biggest shows to air on TV. Moreover, ABC has already confirmed that 9-1-1 will be returning for a 9th season. So, here's everything you need to know about the 9-1-1 Season 8 finale as well as the tribute to Bobby Nash. Peter Krause's character Bobby Nash's death in the episode 'Lab Rats' left fans heartbroken, as he was one of the longest-standing characters in the series. Nash sacrifices himself in order to save his teammate, Howie 'Chimney' Han, played by Kenneth Choi. He contracts a deadly virus in a research facility and decides to give the only present dose of the cure to Han. His death results in the series appointing a new captain of Firehouse 118. Although Brian Thompson's character, Vincent Gerard, took up the responsibility, he is just the temporary captain. In his statement, he said, 'I'm not here to take his place. No one can. I'm not going to be returning as your captain. I'm just here to get you through this difficult transition until Chief Simpson can appoint a candidate more worthy.' Additionally, the makers have not confirmed the official successor of Captain Bobby Nash. However, they did hint in the final episode that Season 9 might have Chimney Han taking over the role. Following Bobby Nash's death, Firehouse 118 was left grieving the loss of their beloved captain. However, the 9-1-1 Season 8 finale, 'Seismic Shifts,' brought a big surprise for not just the fans but the crew as well. In the episode, Athena, played by Angela Bassett, and the others meet Chimney and Maddie Han, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, in the hospital. Here, they are introduced to the couple's second-born. As Athena holds the newborn, Chimney states, 'Athena… say hello to Robert Nash Han,' thus paying tribute to Bobby Nash by naming his child after the former captain.
