Plane forced to land in Seattle after passenger tries to open exit door mid-flight, police say

A flight from Tokyo to Houston was forced to land in Seattle after a passenger tried to open an exit door mid-flight, local police said. A passenger on All Nippon Airways Flight 114 tried to open the exit doors 10 hours into the flight, forcing the plane to land at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport just after 4 a.m. on Saturday, the Port of Seattle Police Department told NBC News. 'Port of Seattle Police were called due to reports of a passenger who attempted to open exit doors during the flight,' a department spokesperson told NBC News. 'The report stated that passengers and flight crew had restrained the individual.' That passenger was having a 'medical crisis,' police said. They've since been taken to the hospital. While on the tarmac in Seattle, a second person was removed from the flight for 'unruly behavior,' the police department told NBC News. While they didn't provide specifics, the police department said it was unrelated to the individual having a medical crisis, police said. The flight continued to Houston 'without incident,' landing just after noon local time, a spokesperson for All Nippon Airways told NBC News. 'The safety of our passengers and crew are our top priority and we applaud the efforts of local law enforcement for their support,' the spokesperson said. Ashley, a passenger on board the flight, told Fox 26 she sat near the man who tried to open the doors. "He actually got up from his seat and crawled over the people next to him," she said of the man. "He got up in a hurry and thought he was sick." Two other passengers helped restrain him, zip-tying him to his seat. The man sat behind her for about 90 minutes before they landed in Seattle. "It was incredible," she said. "I do want to say thank you to those kind citizens who stood up and took control. I wouldn't know what to do."

According to an official with the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the flight was diverted to Seattle and police had to board the plane. Officers were called about a passenger who allegedly tried to open the exit doors during the flight. The passenger was reportedly restrained by other passengers and the flight crew. The Seattle Airport official says the passenger was determined to have been suffering from a medical crisis. The passenger was then taken to a Seattle hospital. According to Flight Aware, the flight eventually made it into Houston on Saturday afternoon. What we don't know The passenger has not been identified and there is no information available on the person's condition. It's not clear if the person has been charged in this case. Panic as Maniac Passenger Tries to Open Emergency Exit Door and Kill Everyone Onboard Tokyo-Houston Flight

Panic broke out on a flight when a manic passenger tried to open the emergency exit mid-air, threatening to kill everyone onboard. The suspect, who has not been named, jumped for the door handle and tried to open it during a Saturday morning flight from Tokyo to Houston, Texas. However, before he could open the door of the flight, fellow passengers quickly intervened, pulling him back and restraining him on the cabin floor. The All Nippon Airways flight had to make an emergency landing at Seattle Airport after being in the air for nine hours of its planned 12-hour trip. Panic in Air Officials at the international airport confirmed that the man was physically restrained while the plane was flying over Washington State. Spokesperson Chris Guizlo said, "Police and EMS were told that a passenger tried to open an emergency exit door mid-flight." The unnamed passenger suddenly lunged from his seat and rushed toward the emergency exit on the Boeing 777, just over three hours before the flight's scheduled landing Given that it was a long overnight flight, most passengers were probably asleep when the incident occurred. The pilot quickly decided to divert the plane to Seattle, successfully landing it within 45 minutes. In general, airplane doors cannot be opened during flight due to the difference in air pressure between the cabin interior and the outside, which keeps them securely sealed. Manic Removed after Flight Landed in Seattle Law enforcement and medical personnel were waiting on the runway when the aircraft touched down at SeaTac around 4:20 a.m. According to airport authorities, the passenger was taken off the plane and immediately taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation related to a possible medical emergency. As of Saturday night, no charges had been filed, and the person's name and condition have not been revealed. An investigation has been launched into the incident, and the man's mental health is also being evaluated. "After evaluation of the individual, Port of Seattle Police determined the individual was having a medical crisis and they were transported via EMS to a local hospital," SeaTac spokesperson Chris Guizlo said. Flight-tracking website FlightAware reported that the plane eventually continued its journey and arrived in Houston at 12:15 p.m., roughly four hours later than scheduled.

Alaska Airlines Flights 1190 and 1094 were pushing back from their gates when their wings collided just after 1 p.m. on May 17, causing delays at the airport while officials responded. Initial reports from the Federal Aviation Administration indicate one flight was bound for Orange County, California, while another was headed to the state's capital in Sacramento. None of the passengers appear to have reported injuries. However, all passengers on both flights had to deplane and board two new Alaska Air planes. What they're saying FOX 13 reached out to Alaska Airlines for comment, the following is their statement: "On Saturday, May 17, ground-service tugs were pushing back two Alaska Airlines aircraft from their gates when the winglets touched at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
