Pochettino's Personal Life
Mauricio Pochettino was born on March 2, 1972, in Murphy, Argentina. His family is of Italian descent, and when he was younger, he started playing soccer as a defender. His parents, Hector and Amalia Pochettino, were a farming family.
He went on to play professional soccer as a center-back. Pochettino played for Newell's Old Boys, Espanyol, PSG, and Bordeaux during his career. Pochettino recalls watching the 1978 World Cup with his father when he was six years old.

Pochettino's Managerial Career
Pochettino became a manager in 2009 when he coached his former club Espanyol. After three years at Espanyol, Pochettino arrived in England to coach Southampton.
In his first full season as Southampton manager, the Saints finished eighth in the 2013-14 Premier League season. The Saints finished 56 points, the club's highest point tally since the Premier League started in the 1992-93 season.

He joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2014 and gave Spurs fans hope of winning a trophy for the first time since 2008. They were close on many occasions in including finishing second in the Premier League and reaching a Champions League Final in 2019.
He joined PSG in 2021 with a stacked squad including Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi. His stint at the French club lasted a year and a half. In 2023, Pochettino joined Chelsea, and after one full season, the club and the manager parted ways.
After 15 games as head coach of the USMNT, fans are hopeful that Pochettino can turn things around for the better ahead of the World Cup. His record with the USMNT is nine wins, one draw, and five losses.

Pochettino has yet to win a trophy for the USMNT as head coach after failing to win the 2025 CONCACAF Nations League.
The USMNT were eliminated in the semi-final against Panama after losing 1-0. In the Bronze-Final, the USMNT under Pochettino lost 2-1 to Canada in March.
