Cambuslang Rangers gaffer's half-time rocket sparked win over Kilsyth Rangers
The Somervell Park side started the season in strong style after their manager had a few choice words for his players Cambuslang Rangers racked up a 4-2 win in their West of Scotland Second Division opener against Kilsyth – after a half-time rocket from boss Paul McColl. The Somervell Park side were 2-0 down at the interval, but a Carlos Lyon double and strikes from Godson Nechi and Ben Kellington turned the game in their favour. They now prepare for a visit to Larkhall Thistle tonight , kick-off 7.15pm, and a home clash against Bonnyton Thistle on Saturday, with McColl pleased with their start. However, he wasn't so pleased at the interval. McColl said: 'I wasn't happy in the first half, it was pretty slow for us, but we came into it in the second half. 'They scored in two minutes, and they were up 2-0 in 10 or 11 minutes. It was just one of those where the ball just falls to the guy, then at the second it took a few ricochets and fell to the guy, who couldn't miss, and you're 2-0 down. 'The boy Danny McBride and Dougie Bell got injured. One of the boys didn't turn up, one was suspended, we were down 2-0, and Carlos Lyon misses a penalty, so you think your day's not going to be a good one! 'But we changed it a wee bit in the second half and ran over the top of them. That was as good a half as I had seen from us for a wee while. 'We're a lot fitter than we were last year and the boy Carlos got his couple of goals. He doesn't care if he misses, he just gets on with it, and he'll score if he gets a chance. 'Big Godson's good for a goal or two as well. 'It ended up being a good result. They're quite a new team, and they're good, they played football and they have a couple of really good individuals. It's a really good result.' McColl isn't happy that Cambuslang have a midweek game at Larkhall Thistle while others are idle, but will get on with it. He said: 'It's a hard game, they won 3-2 away at Maybole on Saturday, and I'm looking forward to it. 'It's always a hard game down there, but I think the last time we went there we won. 'We're back at home again on Saturday, so that's good. 'It was a good win at the weekend, because if you don't get something from your first game, you really need to get something. 'We still do, but it's a good start to the league, and hopefully we don't start on Wednesday like we did in the first half.'

Dog loses leg in bomb explosion, credited with saving dozens of lives
A military dog is being hailed as a hero in Colombia after detecting a bomb planted by guerrilla fighters that exploded during a military operation, authorities said, adding that the wounded canine's actions saved the lives of dozens of soldiers and civilians. The incident was announced just two days after a bomb strapped to a donkey exploded in the same area, killing one soldier and wounding two others. The anti-explosive canine, named Sanson, was helping troops conduct a reconnaissance operation in Antioquia, a mountainous region in northwest Colombia, when the bomb exploded, the army said Friday in a social media post. Authorities said the bomb had been planted on a "community-used path" by the National Liberation Army, known by its Spanish language acronym ELN. With one of his legs shattered by the blast, Sanson was able to drag himself to his handler, soldier Carlos Eduardo Beleño, authorities said. "Our #FourLeggedHero lost one of his limbs but saved the lives of 36 soldiers and hundreds of residents of the La Raya hamlet in Yondó #Antioquia, who pass through this area daily," the Second Division of the National Army said in a separate social media post. Authorities said Sanson is now recovering after surgery, and his leg had to be amputated. A video released by the army shows the dog being treated for his injuries after the explosion and later being examined at an animal hospital. "He will no longer be able to serve, but his legacy will live on in every soldier he bravely protected," the army said. The Colombian military blamed the explosion on ELN, a group of roughly 6,000 fighters that is fighting Colombia's government. Peace talks with the group -- which the U.S. has designated as a foreign terrorist organization -- were suspended in January, when the ELN was blamed for dozens of deaths in raids near the border with Venezuela. Authorities said the attack targeting soldiers violated international humanitarian law and put the "entire civilian population at risk." News of the explosion came just days after a bomb attached to a donkey exploded in the same region of Colombia, killing one soldier and wounding two others. ELN was also blamed for that attack. Comelec issues certificate of finality for Yap's proclamation as Benguet rep
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Second Division has issued a certificate of finality and entry of judgment on a disqualification petition against Eric Yap, clearing the way for his proclamation as the duly-elected representative of the lone district of Benguet. This developed after the poll body did not receive within its five-day deadline a motion for reconsideration (MR) on an earlier ruling that dismissed an October 2024 petition filed by petitioner Franklin Tino. The dismissed petition sought to disqualify Yap from the May 2025 midterm elections on the grounds of material misrepresentation due to questions on his citizenship. Further, no temporary restraining order (TRO) from the Supreme Court (SC) was issued during the five-day reglementary period. "The records show that the Petitioner failed to file a motion for reconsideration and there being no restraining order issued by the Supreme Court (SC) within five days from receipt of the Resolution that would preclude the aforementioned Resolution of this Commission (Second Division) from being final and executory," the certificate of finality read. "In view of the foregoing, the resolution of the Commission (Second Division) promulgated on 26 June 2025 is hereby declared immediately executory under the Comelec Rules of Procedure, and Comelec Resolution No. 11046," it added. Last week, the poll body division lifted the suspension of Yap's proclamation following the dismissal of a disqualification petition against his candidacy. Tino, in his petition, alleged that Yap committed material misrepresentation when he filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for Benguet representative when he is not a natural-born Filipino citizen. He also accused Yap of falsifying his birth certificate and Philippine passport. For his part, Yap denied the allegations as "false, malicious, and unfounded." The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Second Division lifted the suspension of the proclamation of Benguet lone district representative-elect Eric Yap following the dismissal of a disqualification petition against his candidacy for Eleksyon 2025. In an eight-page ruling, the poll body junked an October 2024 petition filed by petitioner Franklin Tino, seeking to disqualify Yap from the May 2025 midterm elections on the grounds of material misrepresentation due to questions on his citizenship. Tino alleged that Yap committed material misrepresentation when he filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for Benguet representative when he is not a natural-born Filipino citizen. He also accused Yap of falsifying his birth certificate and Philippine passport. Yap, in his verified answer, denied the allegations as 'false, malicious, and unfounded'. 'In this case, the Petitioner has utterly failed to discharge this burden. Not a single piece of documentary, testimonial, or circumstantial evidence has been adduced to support his claims against the Respondent,' the poll body said. 'This glaring omission not only renders the Petition fatally defective, but also betrays a troubling lack of diligence and candor in invoking the processes of this Honorable Commission,' it said. The Comelec Second Division also added that 'courts and tribunals are not venues for fishing expeditions or trial by innuendo. To entertain a petition built on unproven claims is to erode the very foundations of justice. Justice is not served by speculation but by evidence, and in the absence of the latter, the Petition must inevitably fail.' Meanwhile, the Benguet Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) were also instructed to reconvene and proceed with the proclamation of Yap. Motion for Reconsideration Poll chief George Erwin Garcia, for his part, reiterated that the ruling is not yet final and executory as the petitioner still has five days to question the decision. 'May karapatan ang peititoner na mag-file ng motion for reconsideration. Titingnan natin within the period of five days kung mag-MR. Kaya ang PBOC ng Benguet ay maaari pang hindi mag-convene para iproklama siya kasi hihintayin pa ang certificate of finality and entry of judgment sapagkat kung saka-sakali na ang petitioner ay mag-file ng MR, maaaring mahinto ang pagpapatupad ng decision,' Garcia told reporters. The £13.4 billion reality Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney face after Wrexham promotion
Wrexham's Hollywood owners are bracing themselves for a new financial landscape as the club gears up to compete in the Championship next season. This upcoming campaign will be the first time in 43 years that the Red Dragons have been in the second tier, having previously spent four seasons in the old Second Division between 1978 and 1982. Much has shifted since then, with an influx of cash due to lucrative telly deals and parachute payments available for freshly-relegated Premier League sides. Many club owners are also quite affluent in their own right, with one part-owner boasting a staggering net worth of £13.4billion. Wrexham's co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are not exactly strapped for cash either. The two A-listers have an estimated combined net worth of around £295m ($400m) courtesy of their acting income and business investments. However, even their wealth seems modest when compared to the Championship's top earners. As the North Wales team prepares for life in the second tier, WalesOnline examines how Reynolds and McElhenney's wealth compares to that of their rival owners. QPR are often highlighted at the top end of the scale in terms of their owners' combined net worth, with their main shareholders being Ruben Gnanalingam, Richard Reilly and Amit Bhatia. Bhatia is the son in law and a representative of steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, who alone is said to be worth £13.4bn, according to Forbes. Not too far behind are American investment fund Gamechanger 20 Ltd, who own newly-relegated Ipswich, with reports valuing the firm at a staggering £10.8bn. Another well-backed side are Leicester, who also recently dropped out of the Premier League, with the Srivaddhanaprabha family worth approximately £2.7bn. Meanwhile, Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown holds a wealth of £2.3bn, and Stoke City custodian John Coates is said to have £2.2bn. At the bottom end of the table in terms of their net worth are Watford's Gino Pozzo (£93m), Millwall's James Berylson (£110m) and Hull City's Acun Ilicali (£147m). The combined net worth of Reynolds and McElhenney would therefore place Wrexham in a lower mid-table position in the Championship. However, they do have an ace up their sleeves in the form of the Allyn family from New York, who came on board as minority owners of the club in October. For more than a century, the family were the owners of US medical device manufacturing company Welch Allyn Inc. That was until September 2015 when the firm was sold to Hill-Rom in a deal reported to be worth just under £1.5bn at current rates . The Allyns have since turned their focus to investing in private and public markets, and Wrexham have received several large cash injections since their arrival. It's hope their involvement will help Reynolds and McElhenney achieve their dream of taking the club into the Premier League. Deadpool star Reynolds restated that goal in the wake of Wrexham's promotion from League One, which was confirmed after a 3-0 home win over Charlton in April. Posting on social media, the Canadian wrote: "We've been with Wrexham for what seems like the blink of an eye, but so much has happened. "I remember the first press conference, we were asked what our goals were... and I think Rob jumped in with, 'The Premier League'. People laughed. They had every right to. It seemed insane... But we weren't kidding." The co-owners have certainly taken steps to shore up Wrexham's financial position in recent times and prudently took out an insurance policy to cover the cost of promotion bonuses ahead of the 2024/25 season. However, climbing into the Championship will be the biggest challenge they have faced yet during their whirlwind journey.
