Chief Inspector Steve Thomas of Dyfed-Powys Police last night said: "We know this type of unlicensed event can cause considerable disruption and concern for safety, as well as harming the environment and disturbing wildlife, which is why we act swiftly with our partners to stop further entry and shut them down. "There is little doubt that these types of events are very well planned, organised and that local knowledge is important in drawing down the main group to a particular area of land. "We assure local communities that appropriate action was taken to deal with this event, and we will robustly investigate any criminal offences that come to light." A spokesperson for Natural Resources Wales added: "We're supporting Dyfed Powys Police in the ongoing response to an unlicensed music event taking place on land we manage at Cefn Croes wind farm, Myherin forest, near Devil's Bridge, Ceredigion. "Our forests and countryside are for everyone to enjoy, but illegal events like this can harm the environment, disturb wildlife, and create unsafe conditions for others. "We advise members of the public to avoid the area while we continue to assist the police in resolving the situation. If you see anything suspicious, please report it to the police by calling 101." Dyfed-Powys Police were called following reports of 'a large gathering' in the Brechfa Forest area overnight on Saturday. A police spokesperson said the rave was 'well underway' when officers arrived. Across Sunday, police remained at the scene as the attendees were dispersed. 'The illegal gathering at Brechfa has now been cleared, with officers remaining at the scene for reassurance to the community,' a police spokesperson said. 'Officers swiftly attended the area on receiving reports of a large gathering overnight, and prioritised stopping vehicles at entry points to prevent the event from escalating. 'Any vehicles arriving at the site were turned away, and drivers asked to leave the area.' As they dispersed the revellers, officers ensured they were fit to be behind the wheel One person arrested for drink driving, and two people were dealt with for drug-related offences at the location. T/Superintendent Shaun Bowen said: 'Our swift response to this event ensured we were able to turn a large number of people away as they arrived, resulting in minimal disruption to the community. 'We understand that many people think these gatherings are just a bit of fun, and don't understand why police need to intervene, but they do have a significant impact on the local community and environment. 'Previous events in Brechfa and other areas have seen a considerable amount of damage caused, and while we hope the impact has been minimal in this instance – thanks in part to the cooperation of those attending – we are waiting for partner agencies to assess the site in the coming days. 'I would like to thank people living in the area for their understanding while we dealt with this event, and encourage them to keep reporting suspicious behaviour that could be linked to large scale gatherings in future.'
