Fury as it costs more to cage a teenage killer than put them up in a ‘superior twin' room at The Ritz

IT COSTS more to cage a teenage killer than put them up at The Ritz, shock figures reveal. Taxpayers foot an annual bill of £336,000 — £921 per night — to keep a young lag at a Secure Training Centre. 2 A room at London's Ritz can cost £775 a night, or £900 for a 'superior twin' room. John O'Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: 'Taxpayers will find these figures difficult to believe. 'Keeping dangerous child prisoners locked up is inevitably going to be expensive, but the current cost cited is so high that inefficiencies must be present. 'At the very least, the Prison Service needs to be transparent as to why costs are so high.' Places at Oakhill Secure Training Centre, near Milton Keynes, Bucks, are the most expensive in the prison estate — costing seven times the £122 per night for some adult jails. Those there are believed to include two 13-year-old machete murderers of Shawn Seesahai, 19 — attacked in Wolverhampton in 2023. It is run by private firm G4S, holds up to 80 children and is currently the country's only operational STC. Young Offender Institutions come in at £329. A spokesman said: 'Children in custody are largely there for serious offences and have needs requiring more support.' Coronation Street fans baffled by 'missing' character as they're left in tears amid actor praise

Coronation Street fans shared their confusion over a 'missing' character during an important moment in the show's knife crime storyline. It was in January that Mason Radcliffe died, having been stabbed in a horrifying attack at the hands of his own brother. But as fans know, a kinfe only became involved after a terrified Dylan pulled out a blade while fearing for both his and Mason's lives. During the mid-week trip to Weatherfield on Wednesday (February 26), it was a big day for Dylan Wilson as he finally discovered his fate for owning the knife which eventually killed Mason, who was trying to turn his life around after bulling Liam Connor for much of last year. He was already facing charges for possessing a bladed article but during his hearing, he made comments which left the judge reviewing what he was being charged with as he made it sound like he had been threatening with the blade. Thankfully for Dylan, the CPS declared that there wasn't enough evidence to change the charges against him and began to sentence him. She explained that his age allowed her to give him a custodial sentence of at least four months, but because of his previous knife-related charges, she was sentencing him to nine months, which were then reduced to six for his guilty plea. Later, Dylan was seen making his first entrance into the STC and he immediately faced trouble from his fellow inmates, hinting that it won't be an easy ride inside for the teen. In the meantime, Corrie fans were seemingly confused over the absence of Liam's mother, Violet. @LilMissMystic said: "Where was Dylan mum Violet when her son was sent down for six months? In fact, I don't think she's been mentioned on-screen during this whole storyline. At least, I can't recall if she has been #Corrie." @ElaineWharton1 commented: "Where is Dylan's mother Violet? Some months ago during his bullying days she was hotfooting it to Weatherfield to take him away from all the trouble! Now she couldn't care less #Corrie." @Chadderbox2018 added: "Last time he was in trouble she was all about dragging him back to that London, but now Dylan has been sentenced to 6 months in the STC, Violet is nowhere to be seen.... #Corrie." Others, meanwhile, were praising Antony Cotton and Liam McCheyne for their performances as Sean and Dylan. @ said: "Sean was amazing, you would believe he was Dylans real father." wrote: "Sean and Dylan are fantastic Actors. Sean nearly had me in tears." @anthonyspicturepalace shared: "Great scene, exceptional acting from both." @colgan1904 added: "Loved this scene in @coronationstreet. Great actors especially Sean."
