UAE: How 'smart' dog collars with GPS, SIM card help police track K9 units in search operations

The Fujairah Police General Command are now using wearable smart collars to track police dogs during search operations and security missions, especially in mountainous and rugged areas. This innovation, introduced by the Security Inspection Department during UAE Innovation Month 2025, helps locate police dogs quickly if they go missing, thus reducing search time and improving operational efficiency. Speaking to Khaleej Times, Hamdan Ali Al Khuzaimi from the Security Inspection Department (K9) explained, "The wearable smart collar operates using GPS technology with a mobile SIM card, allowing security teams to track police dogs in real time through dedicated devices." He emphasised the device's role in speeding up search efforts and enhancing response times during operations, noting 'the collar transmits accurate location data to security teams, making it easier to track police dogs even in difficult terrains like valleys and mountains.' Check out the smart collar below: Using GPS technology and real-time tracking, the collar enhances security operations and ensures the safety of police dogs during critical missions. 'This improves search and rescue efforts, strengthens security operations, and supports better management of police missions. With this smart innovation, we reinforce the UAE's position as a pioneer in technology-driven policing,' Al Khuzaimi added.
