Amirudin dismisses speculation of Tengku Zafrul taking over as Selangor MB

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has dismissed speculation that UMNO Supreme Council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz will take over his position. He said that he recently had a friendly exchange with Tengku Zafrul before the latter departed for Mecca. "He asked if I had any doa (prayers) to send with him. I told him, 'Pray that I remain in Selangor',' Amirudin recounted during the Karnival Ceria Selangor at Dataran Ilmu, Selayang. Amirudin, who is also the Selangor PKR chairman, said the speculation was far-fetched due to the complexity of the processes involved within a short timeframe. "In my view, it's a rather long and complicated story. I don't think that the route of Tengku Zafrul contesting for the Mentri Besar post is feasible because it would require a by-election," he said. "We only have about two and a half years left in this term, so there's not much that can be reorganised within that time frame. We'll have to wait and see how things develop,' added Amirudin. He added that there has been no discussion or instruction from party leadership regarding any move for him to transition to the federal level. "I don't believe we'll be holding a by-election just to seek a new mandate and change the Mentri Besar in the final two years of the term," said Amirudin. "We still have two years to go, and there are many other priorities that require our attention. Right now, our focus is on the upcoming Sabah state election and on strengthening the unity government," he added.

PKR's Nurul Izzah pledges to make ‘best decision' amid calls to contest deputy president's post

KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 — PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has vowed to make 'the best decision' regarding contesting in the party's upcoming central leadership elections, amid growing calls for her to vie for the deputy presidency. The 44-year-old former Permatang Pauh MP said she appreciated the views of grassroots members and party leaders urging her to take up the challenge of contesting the second-highest post in the party. 'PKR is currently in a crucial phase. Therefore, all decisions must consider not only the need to unite and strengthen bonds among comrades but also the need to revitalise the party to ensure it remains relevant and trusted by Malaysians. 'I will make the best decision possible to balance consensus, friendship, change, and meaningful reforms for all members. 'My final decision will not be for the sake of any individual but to build PKR's future together,' Nurul Izzah said in a Facebook post today. Growing support for Nurul Izzah's candidacy Open backing for Nurul Izzah's candidacy has been mounting, with endorsements pouring in from party leaders, state divisions, branches, and party wings. Among the earliest to pledge their support was Datuk Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, the Prime Minister's senior political secretary and Melaka PKR Hang Tuah Jaya division chief. Shamsul, along with four other Melaka PKR division leaders, described their support for Nurul Izzah as the start of the party's renewal in facing current challenges. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and 19 Selangor PKR division chiefs also endorsed her, citing her ability to connect with grassroots members and prioritise the party's interests above personal ambition. Amirudin noted that Nurul Izzah's leadership was not built on her family name but on her steadfast principles and willingness to confront challenges. Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim also backed Nurul Izzah, stating that while he opposed cronyism, her right to contest should not be denied due to her being Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's daughter. Other supporters include Nibong Tebal PKR chief and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, who praised Nurul Izzah's ability to bring stability and continuity to the party, as well as PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim, who highlighted her principled leadership and appeal to the new generation. Several state divisions, including Selangor, Pahang, Penang, Perak, Melaka, Johor, and Sarawak, have also thrown their support behind her candidacy. The Penang PKR Wanita wing described Nurul Izzah as a credible leader committed to social justice, human rights, and institutional reform. Nurul Izzah, who lost her Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat in the 2022 general election, was subsequently appointed PKR vice-president. She has not yet confirmed her candidacy for the deputy presidency in the upcoming elections, scheduled for May 22 to 24. The incumbent deputy president, Rafizi Ramli, has already announced his intention to defend his position, while former PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail is expected to challenge him.

Selangor PKR backs Nurul Izzah for deputy president post

SHAH ALAM: Selangor PKR has declared its open support for the nomination of PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar to contest the deputy president post in the party's upcoming elections. Selangor PKR chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the party needed a deputy president who was not tied to government administration and could focus on strengthening internal unity while preparing PKR for the next General Election with robust strategies and renewed vigour. The Selangor Menteri Besar said apart from being a capable orator and a proven vote-winner, the party also required a leader who understood grassroots sentiments and prioritised the party over personal interests. 'Nurul Izzah is no stranger to the party. She has fought from a young age, representing the youth in difficult times, detained, insulted, but never left the struggle. She built her name not on her family lineage but on the strength of her principles and courage to stand for truth. 'She has proven her credibility in two terms as a Member of Parliament, as the party's vice-president and as a committed policy thinker. She is recognised both domestically and internationally, but most importantly, party members know who she is and what she has sacrificed for PKR,' he said in a statement today. Amirudin also expressed confidence that with Nurul Izzah's nomination, a strong leadership team could be formed, while restoring public trust and ensuring PKR remained relevant, progressive and respected. He said the leadership of PKR president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim required a strong partner, and Nurul Izzah was capable of being a loyal ally, an honest adviser and a driving force who would bravely speak the truth for the sake of the party. 'With a full sense of responsibility, we stand firmly with Nurul Izzah. May this nomination mark the beginning of a new chapter in PKR's journey that is more united, mature and constructive,' he said. Nurul Izzah had previously announced her intention to defend her vice-president post in the PKR elections to be held on May 24.

Selangor, Kedah divisions rally behind Nurul Izzah for PKR No.2

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor PKR has proposed Nurul Izzah Anwar as a candidate for party deputy president, saying her leadership is vital for the party's future. In a statement today, Kuala Selangor division chief M. Sivabalan said the eldest daughter of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was a suitable candidate to assume the post to safeguard the party's future. He added that grassroots leaders wanted the central leadership to make a firm political decision to further strengthen and empower the party. "Nurul is not a leader who only appears during election season. She has always been part of the party's struggle, even when we were on the streets, until we finally reached Putrajaya," he said in a statement. Hulu Langat division chief Rajen Munasamy said the party needed a "reform-minded" leader like Nurul Izzah, who had demonstrated consistent principles from the beginning. He added that the vice-president could also play an important role alongside the rest of the leadership to ensure the party's future remained on the right track. "It is time for the party's top leadership, especially the president and others, to make a clear and decisive political move for the common good. "We no longer have time for rhetorical political manoeuvring. We need a strong presidential team," he said. Nurul Izzah previously announced that she would contest the vice-president position in the upcoming PKR elections, scheduled for May 24. ( Meanwhile, support continued to grow for Nurul Izzah, with three divisions from Kedah firmly backing her candidacy. The divisions were from Pokok Sena, Jerai and Jerlun. Pokok Sena division chief Mohd Altab P.A. Ibrahim declared his full support for Nurul Izzah, describing her as a driving force of the reformation movement and a committed figure throughout the party's struggle. "She is not only a respected political figure but also a people's icon who has long stood as a frontrunner of the reform agenda. She symbolises the people's hope for justice and systemic change," it said. Echoing this sentiment, Jerai division chief S. Poobalan expressed confidence in her leadership, citing her past commitment and performance as the Kedah PKR Leadership Council chairman. Jerlun chief Mohamad Rudzi Samsudin also pledged his division's full support, stating that Nurul Izzah's long-standing involvement in the Reformasi movement and unwavering commitment to the party made her a fitting choice for the position. "She has faced numerous challenges in the party's struggle and has never wavered in her dedication. Her leadership represents a continuity of reformist ideals within PKR," the statement read. The race for the deputy president post had now become the centre of attention, especially after several prominent figures aligned with incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli were defeated in the recent division-level elections. Titiwangsa PKR chief Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman urged Rafizi to make way for former party secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to take over the position. Saifuddin, however, had remained tight-lipped and said he would make an announcement on the matter soon. In the 2022 party polls, Rafizi defeated Saifuddin for the deputy president's post with a landslide majority of 16,668 votes.
