Selangor PKR backs Nurul Izzah for deputy president post

The Sun06-05-2025

SHAH ALAM: Selangor PKR has declared its open support for the nomination of PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar to contest the deputy president post in the party's upcoming elections.
Selangor PKR chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the party needed a deputy president who was not tied to government administration and could focus on strengthening internal unity while preparing PKR for the next General Election with robust strategies and renewed vigour.
The Selangor Menteri Besar said apart from being a capable orator and a proven vote-winner, the party also required a leader who understood grassroots sentiments and prioritised the party over personal interests.
'Nurul Izzah is no stranger to the party. She has fought from a young age, representing the youth in difficult times, detained, insulted, but never left the struggle. She built her name not on her family lineage but on the strength of her principles and courage to stand for truth.
'She has proven her credibility in two terms as a Member of Parliament, as the party's vice-president and as a committed policy thinker. She is recognised both domestically and internationally, but most importantly, party members know who she is and what she has sacrificed for PKR,' he said in a statement today.
Amirudin also expressed confidence that with Nurul Izzah's nomination, a strong leadership team could be formed, while restoring public trust and ensuring PKR remained relevant, progressive and respected.
He said the leadership of PKR president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim required a strong partner, and Nurul Izzah was capable of being a loyal ally, an honest adviser and a driving force who would bravely speak the truth for the sake of the party.
'With a full sense of responsibility, we stand firmly with Nurul Izzah. May this nomination mark the beginning of a new chapter in PKR's journey that is more united, mature and constructive,' he said.
Nurul Izzah had previously announced her intention to defend her vice-president post in the PKR elections to be held on May 24.

PAS could be wooing PKR's ‘splinter group' to make up numbers in July 26 'Turun Anwar' rally

WHETHER the upcoming Turun Anwar rally is manifestation of public anger at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as claimed by its organiser PAS Youth or otherwise, it cannot be denied that efforts are being directed at luring the disgruntled pro-Rafizi faction in PKR to make up the numbers. This is obvious as evident in an invitation extended to 'all Walaraf (slang for staunch followers of ousted PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli) and folks of Kampung Springfield (which is inspired from the fictional setting of American animated sitcom The Simpsons)'. Saya akan hadir. Ayuh semua! Walaraf & orang2 Kampung Springfield turut dijemput bersama 😝 — Siditious (@Solisidtor) June 16, 2025 Doubtlessly, numerous opposition-orchestrated anti-Anwar/Madani government rallies in recent times have met with lukewarm success with the latest being the Himpunan Melayu Berdaulat on May 24 to protest the proposed Urban Renewal Act (URA) on grounds that it threatens Malay demographics and marginalises low-income urban communities. However, attempts to capitalise on the growing frustrations of PKR grassroots loyalists amid claims of nepotism following the rise of the party president's eldest daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar as the second most powerful person in PKR – or amid allegations that the reformasi spirit is dead – remain a formidable task. 'One man at fault' As highlighted by pro-Rafizi influencer 𝖠𝖿𝗋𝖺𝗅'𝗌 (@AfralAbdullah), questions abound about PAS' sincerity and what are the offers on the table: Can PAS and its leadership be trusted? What are the risks to PH (Pakatan Harapan) if they also take shelter under the 'Big Umbrella' If there truly is a 'Big Umbrella,' can PAS undermine Anwar's position as PM from within by applying pressure or, worse, influencing Barisan Nasional (UMNO) to leave the PH-BN alliance, thus paving the way for the UMNO president to become PM? Ketua Pemuda PAS Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden berkata perancangan awal mengadakan perhimpunan bagi membantah cadangan kerajaan memperkenalkan Akta Pembaharuan Semula Bandar (URA) ditukar kepada himpunan 'Turun Anwar'. (N. Faizal Ghazali, Mkini) Timbul persoalan~ i) Bolehkah PAS… — 𝖠𝖿𝗋𝖺𝗅'𝗌 (@AfralAbdullah) June 15, 2025 Stating that the Turun Anwar rally slated for July 26 in Kuala Lumpur is not merely a protest against the URA per se, PAS information chief Fadhli Shaari contended that it carries a broader message on the urgent need to realign the country's direction which he claimed has veered off course under the Madani government. 'This rally stems from the awareness that the root cause of various national problems – from the failure of promised reforms, suppression of free speech, to the rising cost of living – all point to the failed leadership of one individual: Anwar Ibrahim,' he told PAS mouthpiece HarakahDaily. 'There are even voices among PH component party leaders who are starting to ask: if not Anwar, then who? Such questions reflect a lack of understanding or confusion about our country's administrative system. 'If the PM resigns, the Deputy PM can assume duties or the Yang di-Pertuan Agong may appoint any MP whom he believes commands the majority support. Are those asking this question implying that the current DPM is unfit to replace Anwar?' – June 17, 2025

Excessive backlash prompts PMX to disable comment section of some FB, Instagram posts

NEVER before had Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim been so badly trolled particularly on social media platforms till it warrants his social media administrators to disable comments, particularly those related to his presence at the recent 18th PKR national congress. Such was the sentiment aired by a few supposedly disgruntled PKR supporters or more specifically the faction of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli who was ousted in the party's deputy presidency race by PMX's daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar. 'PMX turn off the comment section on his Facebook posts regarding the PKR Congress (he is most popular at FB with 2.7M+ followers),' fumed hafizubai🇵🇸 (@hafizubai1) on X. 'Our PM is refusing to hear people's voice. Correct me if I'm wrong but did Najib ever do that? Heck even Muhyiddin or Ismail Sabri ever did (that)? Shameful!' Another furious PKR backer Zaz (@ThIsIs_Zharif) wondered what has PKR become till PMX has to shut down his FB comment section. 'Afraid of the rakyat? Is this how you manage the pulse of the rakyat? A clown party!' Anwar Ibrahim pun mula tutup komen di Facebook? 😂😂 Keadilan ni dah jadi apa? Takut dengan Rakyat? Macam ni cara kamu uruskan denyut nadi rakyat? Parti badut! — Zaz (@ThIsIs_Zharif) May 24, 2025 The social media-savvy netizen went on further to reveal that the comment section of six FB posts had bed been turned off while querying if 'this us the way the Bapa Reformasi evade the people's anger'? In an update, Zaz observed that the comment section on PMX's FB section was disabled from '7.17am to 7.20am' yesterday (May 25) with a check by FocusM revealed that commenting is limited to 'only people who have followed this page for more than 24 hours'. Apart from FB, a few netizens also reported that the comment section on PMX's Instagram in which he boasts 1.2M followers has also been disabled/limited. At the end of the day, one PMX fan who has been looking up to him as an idol since young expressed sympathy to the former while stating that 'such is the price that he must pay for supporting the foolish Damai (Nurul Izzah's) team'. 'For the first time, PMX has to close the comment section because 95% of the comments criticised him,' he penned on X. Aku simpati pd PMX antara idola aku yg aku sokong dari muda. Itulah harga yg perlu dibayar kerana team Damai yg bahalol. Buat kali pertamanya PMX terpaksa tutup ruang komen krn 95% komen hentam beliau. Kamu mengajar kami 'lawan tetap lawan' dn kami sambut 'lawan tetap lawan' — Ezzad_AR (@EzzadAR) May 25, 2025 'You taught us lawan tetap lawan (fight on, keep fighting) and we respond with lawan tetap lawan.' – May 26, 2025

[UPDATED] PM yet to accept Nik Nazmi's resignation, giving him time

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said there was no need to rush a decision on Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad's resignation from the cabinet, as he was still on leave. "Nik Nazmi's status has not yet been decided," he told reporters on the sidelines of the Energy Asia forum in Kuala Lumpur. "I always give (people) a chance to reflect, and then I'll give my views," Anwar said, adding that if Nik Nazmi wanted to continue serving, he could do so. "But he is still on leave, so let's give him space." Nik Nazmi, the Setiawangsa member of parliament, previously resigned from the cabinet after failing to retain his PKR vice-presidency. He was the only incumbent vice-president who did not retain his post. Subsequently, Nik Nazmi denied rumours that he and other MPs who lost in the PKR elections would withdraw support for Anwar. Nik Nazmi is on leave until July 3, and his resignation takes effect on July 4.
