'Go ahead, arrest me': Motorcyclist abuses RTD officers after fine

SHAH ALAM: A motorcyclist fined during a Road Transport Department (RTD) operation verbally abused officers and challenged them to arrest him. The man, who was among 148 motorists fined at the Kemuning Toll Plaza on the Shah Alam Expressway yesterday, continued to rage despite attempts to calm him down, according to Selangor RTD director Azrin Borhan. Azrin said that among the 580 vehicles inspected, the most common offence was driving without a licence, with 76 summonses issued. Other violations included expired Motor Vehicle Licences (51), no vehicle insurance (49), no Goods Driving Licence (eight), and altered registration numbers (eight). "In this operation, we seized eight motorcycles and four cars, issued 13 Inspection Notices, and eight Vehicle Use Prohibition Notices," he said at a press conference at the scene. He added that the majority of motorists with expired road tax claimed they forgot to renew their licences. Meanwhile, the Petaling National Anti-Drug Agency, which also took part in the operation, arrested three local men, aged between 30 and 40, who tested positive for methamphetamine.

"No time, forgot" among excuses in RTD Kesas blitz

SHAH ALAM: "No time" and "forgot" were among the common excuses given by road users stopped during the Ops Pengarah enforcement operation by the Road Transport Department (RTD) along the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) last night. The nearly five hour operation, which began at 8.30pm, saw 252 traffic offence notices issued following inspections on 580 vehicles, including motorcycles. Selangor RTD director Azrin Borhan said one of the more shocking findings was a motorcyclist who had not renewed his road tax for two years — the longest recorded during the operation. He said the operation aimed to reduce vehicle‑related offences and ensure all road users complied with road regulations. "Investigations revealed that most drivers caught claimed they forgot to renew their road tax due to work commitments or simply said they had no time," he said. "We also seized four cars and eight motorcycles during the operation." Azrin added that the operation also detected vehicles using non‑compliant lights and motorcycles with illegal exhaust modifications. "Out of the 252 notices issued, 76 involved driving without a valid licence, 51 for expired road tax, 49 for no insurance coverage, and eight for not having a valid Goods Driving Licence (GDL)," he said. "Other offences included seven for not displaying number plates, five for lack of rear‑view mirrors, and 10 for various other technical offences."

Luxury cars seized in RTD crackdown over expired road tax

SHAH ALAM: Four motorists, including a woman from China, were forced to return home using e-hailing services after their luxury vehicles were seized by the Road Transport Department (RTD) last night. The vehicles were impounded after they were found to have been driven with expired road tax during a five-hour special operation, dubbed "Ops Pengarah," conducted by the Selangor RTD. The operation started at 8.30pm at the Kota Kemuning Toll Plaza along the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas). The seizures began when personnel stopped a Mercedes-Benz S400 driven by a woman from China. Upon inspection, they found she was driving a vehicle without a valid road tax or insurance for over a year. The 41-year-old woman, who is married to a Malaysian, was also driving without a valid driver's licence. Personnel then detected another case involving a 25-year-old Malaysian man who explained that the Toyota Vellfire MPV he was driving had been purchased just three months ago. He said the luxury MPV was bought by his brother through a "sambung bayar" (loan takeover) arrangement with the original owner. The man said he had informed the original owner to renew the road tax, but the owner claimed he could not do so because of outstanding summonses. Both motorists were forced to take e-hailing rides home as RTD officers seized their vehicles. Meanwhile, RTD Selangor director Azrin Borhan revealed that from January to July this year, a total of 16,735 offences were recorded involving individuals driving without a valid licence. "Of that number, heavy vehicle drivers made up the largest group with 7,116 cases, followed by motorcyclists (6,596), car drivers (2,576), and public transport operators (447)," he said. "For the same period, there were also 25,338 road tax-related offences." It was recently revealed that some owners of high-powered luxury vehicles are allegedly choosing not to renew their road tax and insurance because the fines are cheaper.

KLANG: A 15-year-old student was among 20 motorists who had their vehicles seized by the Selangor Road Transport Department in a special operation to clamp down on those driving without documents. State RTD director Azrin Borhan said the operation, dubbed Op PeWa, was carried out between 7am and 4pm today at Meru and Puncak Alam. "We checked a total of 46 vehicles comprising 44 motorcycles, one car and a lorry. "Of the vehicles checked, we took action against 19 motorcyclists as well as the car and lorry," he said when contacted today. Azrin said a total of 90 summons and 10 notices prohibiting the use of vehicles were issued to the motorists. "We also issued 10 notices to order vehicle inspections as well as 20 notices to detain vehicles for further action. "All 19 motorcycles and the car were seized," he said, adding that among the offences committed were driving without road tax or insurance, not having a valid Competent Driver's License or Goods Driving License, as well as other technical offences. Azrin said they also detected two cases involving underaged driving, two cases involving fancy number plates and four cases involving the misuse of road tax. "In one of the cases, we came across a 15-year-old student who was stopped at the traffic light intersection of Persiaran Kayangan near Section 7, Shah Alam. "He made excuses, saying he was riding the motorcycle belonging to his grandfather to help a friend. "The teenager also told our personnel that his grandfather was aware that he was using his motorcycle," said Azrin. However, the officers did not accept the teen's excuses and his motorcycle was seized. The youngster was also issued with summonses for underaged riding, not using a helmet and not having valid road tax or insurance. "We have taken his motorcycle to the Selangor RTD headquarters in Padang Jawa for further action," he said.

Rider caught with modified bike, no licence or insurance

KUALA LANGAT: The Road Transport Department (RTD) seized a heavily modified Yamaha Y15 motorcycle during an enforcement operation here. Checks showed that the motorcycle was missing its rear brake caliper, a crucial safety component, at the time it was stopped. Selangor RTD director Azrin Borhan said the rider was stopped during an operation at Km9 of Jalan Klang Banting. "The rider had not only made extreme modifications to the motorcycle, but also did not possess a valid driving licence. "Furthermore, the motorcycle was uninsured, and its road tax had expired," he said when contacted today. Azrin said the young man claimed he used the motorcycle to commute to work in Port Klang. He added that among the violations detected were the absence of rear brakes, undersized tyres, and modified swingarm and sprocket components. "Selangor RTD continuously monitors and acts on all complaints to ensure vehicles comply with road and traffic regulations. "Members of the public may submit complaints regarding traffic offences to aduantrafik@ or via the eAduan application, including full details of the complaint," he said.
