Selangor Touch Fiesta to host over 100 teams in regional showdown
KUALA LUMPUR: A staggering 2,000 touch rugby players from around the region are set to compete in the inaugural Selangor Touch Fiesta in Petaling Jaya on Aug 15-17.
The tournament, organised by Touch Association Selangor (TAS), will feature teams from Brunei, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia.
Over 100 teams will compete in various age categories beginning from under-10 and up.
TAS secretary Amir Affifuddin Amir Shariffuddin said the competition is intended to provide a platform for players to compete on and boost development in the region.
"This is more than just a tournament, this is the beginning of a legacy," said Amir, who is also the tournament director, in a statement released today (Aug 6).
"The Touch Fiesta is our way of elevating the game, uniting communities and offering players a platform to shine from grassroots rookies to talented athletes representing their nations."
The tournament will also feature teams from the All For Touch Academy (AFTA), an initiative launched by TAS in 2023 to nurture young touch rugby talent in Selangor.
AFTA teams will compete in the girls' under-12 and under-18 as well as the boys' under-12 categories during the Selangor Touch Fiesta.
