Car Deal of the Day: Get the Range Rover look for (a lot) less with the Jaecoo 7 for £244 a month
Imposing styling Packed with standard equipment Only £243.85 a month Jaecoo is another Chinese brand new to the UK car market, and if you go by recent sales figures, it's starting to become a popular choice among Brits. Little wonder with deals like this, because, for well under £250 a month, you can get the Jaecoo 7 SUV that has Range Rover-like looks, is packed with technology, and is very affordably priced. Advertisement - Article continues below This deal, from Select Car Leasing, through the Auto Express Find a Car service, sees you taking the keys to a brand-new Jaecoo 7 for just £243.85 a month. This three-year deal requires a £3,280.20 initial payment, while mileage is capped at 5,000 miles a year. This can be tweaked to 8,000 a year for just over £8 extra a month. The Jaecoo 7 has the same underpinnings as the similarly cheap Omoda 5 – featured last week as a Deal of the Day – but parent company Chery feels the Jaecoo is a cut above. That probably explains why Jaecoo has seemingly looked to Range Rover for some styling inspiration, with the 7's rear end having more than a hint of Range Rover Evoque about it. The slim headlights, boxy dimensions, and large grille all give the car added presence, too. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below This deal gets you the entry-level (and curiously old-fashioned-sounding) Deluxe model. But, like with many Chinese new entrants, base-spec doesn't equal poverty-spec like on some rival European offerings. Deluxe brings a 13.2-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital driver's display, wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree camera system, heated front seats, ambient lighting, a full-length panoramic sunroof and more a whole heap of advanced driver-assistance systems. Powering the 7 is a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. It packs 145bhp and gets the aspirational high-rider to 62mph in a very leisurely 10.3 seconds. Fuel economy is a decent 37.7mpg claimed. The car's ride and handling are outshone by the majority of European rivals, but if styling and equipment at a cheap price are high on your list of requirements, the Jaecoo 7 could be worth a look. Highway Code: Drivers risk speeding fine over motorway myth
Millions of us use the motorway everyday, but may be putting ourselves at risk of a speeding fine due to an incorrect understanding of motorway cameras. One motoring expert has warned drivers not to get caught out by an old tale that could leave them with a fine, points on their licence and even a driving ban. Graham Conway, from leading vehicle leasing firm Select Car Leasing, explained that a surprisingly large number of drivers still believe smart motorway cameras are NOT in operation all of the time. What can fail an MOT test? That's false – and gantry cameras can still snare speeders going above 70mph even when no variable limit is in place. He said: 'We hear this quite often, but it's something that could potentially ruin your day if you get it wrong. 'It appears that many motorists think the speed cameras on smart motorways are only in operation when the matrix signs on the gantries show a variable speed limit, say 50mph or 60mph. 'They are aware that they need to slow down when they see this, but wrongly believe that at other times they won't get clocked breaking the speed limit, as long as they don't encounter the police. 'This simply is not right. Online motoring forums are full of accounts from drivers who've been caught out in such a manner. "And the penalties for breaking the speed limit on a motorway can be severe. That's as well as being dangerous and putting lives at risk, of course.' Smart motorways have become a prominent feature of the UK's road network, offering increased capacity and improved traffic flow. Recommended Reading: But these dynamic highways also come with unique safety considerations. They utilise variable speed limits to manage traffic flow and enhance safety – depending on traffic conditions, accidents or roadworks. The smart motorway speed camera myth is one of many commonly-held misconceptions that can catch out drivers. Another is that there is no speed limit on the M6 toll road, in the West Midlands, because it is run by a private company – which is also incorrect. Mr Conway added: 'The big message here is simple: Don't speed. Road safety charity Brake! says speeding contributes to 105,000 road crashes and leads to more than 1,500 deaths every year. 'Good drivers are aware of the rules and abide by them, while also being conscious of the conditions on the day and what other road users are doing. 'It can be tempting at this time of year, when schedules are busy and you're trying to get somewhere on time, to put your foot down. 'But it's much better to get there slightly late and still in one piece than to not get there at all.'

Car Deal of the Day: Nissan's X-Trail is a do-it-all seven-seat hybrid SUV for only £235 a month
Smooth hybrid power Classy cabin £235 a month If you're in need of a seven-seater SUV, then there's no shortage of choice. There's the Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Skoda Kodiaq and the new Volkswagen Tayron. The Nissan X-Trail is a solid competitor, too, and it's just been made all the more tempting thanks to this great deal via the Auto Express Find A Car service. Advertisement - Article continues below Offered by Select Car Leasing, this personal contract hire agreement is based over two years, with a monthly payment of £235 a month. There's a sensible £3,184 initial deposit, with a 5,000-mile annual limit. While the Qashqai might steal all the headlines (and sales) for Nissan, if you want a seven-seater, you have to go for the X-Trail. But that's no issue, because the X-Trail comes with plenty of family-friendly practicality, a well built interior and decent levels of kit – even in the base Acenta trim offered here. A 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine might sound a little weedy in a car of this size, but it's worth remembering that like the Qashqai, the X-Trail's wheels are powered by electricity only. This is thanks to Nissan's e-Power set-up, which utilises the petrol engine as a generator for the battery that powers the electric motor. It's a strange layout, but we found it to be smooth in its transitions between electric and combustion-engined power sources, unlike some full-hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrains from rivals. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below This E-4orce model has all-wheel drive thanks to a dual-motor set-up. With 210bhp, the X-Trail is able to get to 62mph in a sprightly 7.2 seconds – although we suspect the all-wheel drive functionality will be more commonly used for towing and off-roading. As you'd want in a family-oriented seven-seat SUV, the X-Trail's equipment list is strong. There's a wireless smartphone charging pad, dual-zone climate control, a rear-view camera, wireless Android Auto and wired Apple CarPlay connectivity on the eight-inch touchscreen, plus a 12.3-inch digital display for the driver. The interior itself has been heavily influenced by the all-electric Ariya, which we think is a good thing because it is quite a bit more luxurious than the old X-Trail. It's roomy, too, with 90-degree opening rear doors to make loading kids in the middle and third row that much easier. How many cars caravan owners are allowed behind them before a fine
How many cars caravan owners are allowed behind them before a fine You're supposed to pull over, according to Rule 169 of the Highway Code and section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 Looking at the back of a mobile home, motorhome or caravan can be frustrating for other drivers Holidaymakers have been warned about a little-known Highway Code rule that could see them hit with a £5,000 fine and nine points on their licence. Estimates suggest there are close to 800,000 touring caravans and motorhomes regularly in use in the UK, as enthusiasts take their home away from home with them. Caravans and larger motorhomes must abide by different speed limits from cars; 60mph on motorways and dual carriageways, 50mph on single carriageways and 30mph in built-up areas. It's not unusual to see caravans and motorhomes travelling slower than the posted limit, particularly on winding rural roads, as owners attempt to navigate their large vehicles carefully. But if a queue of traffic builds up behind, they're obliged to pull over to let the queue pass. Rule 169 of the Highway Code states: 'Do not hold up a long queue of traffic, especially if you are driving a large or slow-moving vehicle. Check your mirrors frequently, and if necessary, pull in where it is safe and let traffic pass.' While there's no specific law governing when a caravan or motorhome should safely pull over to traffic, failure to do so could be deemed an act of 'careless' or 'inconsiderate driving' under section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. The offence can result in an on-the-spot fine of £100 as well as three penalty points on a licence, while more serious cases could even result in a £5,000 fine and up to 9 penalty points. Graham Conway, Managing Director at Select Car Leasing, said: 'If you're one of the many people in the UK who love the caravan or motorhome way of life, it's good to know what the Highway Code says about holding up traffic. When you're on the tow or in charge of a large vehicle, safety is paramount and it's only right that you adjust your speed accordingly, slowing down if necessary. Article continues below 'But if you spot a large queue of traffic building up behind you, try to pull over when it's safe to do so in order to let them pass. It's not just Highway Code advice, it's also a courtesy for other road users. 'On the flip side, if you find yourself stuck behind a slow-moving vehicle of any sort - whether it's a car pulling a caravan, a large HGV, or a tractor and trailer - maintain a safe following distance, keep checking your mirrors for other vehicles who may also be looking to overtake, and only pull out to overtake when it's safe to do so.' The Highway Code advice about moving over for other traffic also applies to tractors and agricultural vehicles. Article continues below The National Farmers Union advises: 'When you become aware of traffic building up behind you, pull over when safe and legal to do so, to allow faster vehicles to safely pass you.' In 2014 police in Dyfed-Powys, Wales, warned tractor drivers they may be committing an offence if they hold up traffic and urged farmers to pull in to lay-bys when six or more vehicles follow them. A similar warning was issued by police in Gloucestershire Police in 2015, with Forest Local Policing Area PC Richard Simpson saying: 'When tractors and other slow moving vehicles don't pull over when they have the chance to do so, in order to let traffic past, they can cause obstructions and long tailbacks, and they may be committing offence.'

Car Deal of the Day: Ooh la la… posh Peugeot E-3008 is a petit £227 a month
Sharp design 326-mile range Just £227.24 a month If you want proof of how France's Peugeot has become a desirable and daring car brand, then take a look at the undeniably stylish E-3008. Its head-turning good looks and plush interior are its standout features, but as the quality has gone up, so has the price. Luckily, however, leasing deals like today's featured offer take the pain away. The E-3008 certainly isn't the cheapest mid-size electric SUV on the market, yet Select Car Leasing is offering the posh Pug for just £227.24 a month. Advertisement - Article continues below This two-year deal requires £3,080.88 as an initial payment, while mileage is capped at 5,000 miles a year. Need more? You can nudge up the limit to 8,000 a year for an extra £26.57 a month. The deal bags you the entry-level Allure. But, as Peugeot has reinvented itself to be within touching distance of the established premium brands, Allure trim is nothing to be sniffed at. The interior is bristling with luxuries such as a 21-inch curved display, which comprises the touchscreen infotainment system and digital dials for the driver. The in-built sat-nav is 3D, and there's a third screen for the 'i-Toggles' – Peugeot-speak for configurable widgets. Under the svelte body lies a 73kWh battery giving a claimed range of 326 miles, and in our testing we've found the real-world range to be a still-rather-impressive 300 miles. Performance, meanwhile, is brisk enough thanks to a 207bhp motor, although the ride is on the firm side.
