New Colorado Springs Senior Center sneak peak

(COLORADO SPRING)—The new Colorado Springs Senior Center is almost ready to open its doors. After delays from demolition, the crews worked hard to get the project back on track. This building was made possible by collaboration from the City and the YMCA. The new Building is a massive 23,000 square feet, and will be complete with a pickle ball court, a stage for performances, spaces for classes and dance, as well as a locker room. The City took community feedback into consideration when creating the new space. 'Parking was a huge deal as we were talking to the community,' City of Colorado Springs Director of Facilities Henry Martin said. ' I'm glad to say we delivered on that.' The best part of the new center is that it is free to seniors. 'You've just got to be 55,' said Tom Lathrop with the YMCA. The center was created to give seniors a place to go to give them a community of their own filled with activities to do. 'When people retire,' Lathrop said, 'They get to a point where they're like, 'I'm done working. What am I going to do?' Well, we've got tons of activities for people to participate in.' The center is expected to open Labor Day weekend and is located at 1514 North Hancock Avenue, just south of Patty Jewett Golf Course. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Centre County to begin distributing farmers' market vouchers following funding delays

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Centre County Office of Aging announced that the 2025 Farmers' Market Voucher Program will soon start distributing vouchers. The Office of Aging recently announced that the vouchers were originally scheduled for Monday, June 2, but were delayed until further notice due to the funding delays. The annual summer program known as the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program is run by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA). However, the Office of Aging says that on Monday, June 2, they received the vouchers and will start distributing them soon. 'We were told by the Department of Agriculture that there would be a two-week delay in the vouchers. However, when we came in this morning, the vouchers were actually here. So we are preparing right now to be able to distribute them,' Director of the Office of Aging Quentin Burchfield said. Centre County residents who are 60 and older and who meet income guidelines are eligible for the vouchers. Each person gets five vouchers worth $5 each. This year, with uncertainty of funding, the county was given fewer vouchers than usual. 'We got about 74%. So, this year we will have less to distribute. This was the first impact that we've had as far as, with any of our programs,' Burchfield said. Centre County Office of Aging will be handing out vouchers at the following locations: Wednesday, June 4, Madisonburg Senior Center, 10 a.m. to Noon Thursday, June 5, Philipsburg YMCA, 9 a.m. to Noon Tuesday, June 10, Snow Show Senior Center, 10 a.m. to Noon Thursday, June 12, Centre Hall Senior Center, 10 a.m. to Noon Monday, June 16, Centre Region Senior Center, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Only road in and out of Knotts Island closed due to crash

KNOTTS ISLAND, N.C. (WAVY) – The only road in and out of Knotts Island is closed following a crash Wednesday morning. According to Currituck County officials, while the Marsh Island Causeway remains closed, travel between Knotts Island and mainland Currituck County is limited to the Knotts Island-Currituck Ferry. You can access the NCDOT ferry schedules at this link: The crash knocked out power to customers in the Knotts Island area. That includes the KNotts Island Senior Center, which is temporarily closed as a result. Images community members posted to social media show a vehicle in a body of water, with power lines down on the road. Dominion Energy responded to the scene and anticipate it could take up to eight hours to complete repairs to the damaged power lines and poles. Stay with WAVY on-air and online for updates. Winchendon annual Town Election had two override questions: Here's how residents voted

The $1.9 million override in Winchendon was approved by 12 votes during the May 5 annual Town Election. It was a close count with 896 votes for "yes" on Ballot Question 1 and 884 votes for "no." Two ballot questions appeared in this year's Winchendon annual Town Election asking voters to approve either a $1.9 million override or a $2.9 million override. While Ballot Question 1 passed, Ballot Question 2, which asked voters if they approved the $2.9 million override, failed by a significant margin. Only 645 voters voted "yes," and 1,105 voters voted "no." This year, 1,749 Winchendon voters cast their ballot at the polls. Three town departments may be saved from closure If voters did not pass either of the override ballot questions, Beals Memorial Library, the Parks and Recreation Department, and the Senior Center would be eliminated from the town's FY26 operating budget. Other town departments, including the Police and Fire departments, would have faced major cutbacks, which could cause problems with effective service delivery. What's next for Winchendon voters? Now that the $1.9 million override ballot question has passed at the ballot box, Winchendon voters must also pass it at annual Town Meeting on Monday, May 19. Local senior center celebrates accreditation

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A major recognition was bestowed on one of the brightest places in Austintown. The Austintown Senior Center serves up to 150 seniors a day and 500 every week. It has earned the Senior Center of Excellence Accreditation, which measures the programs and service it provides to seniors, and its commitment to facilities. The honor comes from the Ohio Association of Senior Centers. 'We are the eighth senior center in the entire state of Ohio that has gone through the entire process and received accreditation. So, it's kind of a big deal,' said Jessick Ricker, marketing, programming and technology director. The process to receive the honor took about three years to accomplish. The Austintown Senior Center opened in October 2010. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
