Ryan Phillippe, Michael Cimino: 'Motorheads' characters mature by repairing cars
LOS ANGELES, May 20 (UPI) -- Ryan Phillippe and Michael Cimino say their new show, Motorheads, premiering Tuesday on Prime Video, shows teenagers maturing through working on cars. Phillippe, 50, plays Logan Maddox, a mechanic whose sister, Samantha (Nathalie Torres), moves back to their hometown with her two children, daughter Caitlyn (Melissa Collazo) and son Zac (Cimino). Logan lets Zac and his friends use his shop to fix up their cars, but can't stop them from racing against their classmates. In a recent Zoom interview with UPI, Phillippe and Cimino agreed that auto work and other crafts teach valuable skills and lessons. "It requires commitment and patience," Phillippe said. "Any time kids have a project that means something, that they're passionate about, is a good point of focus." For Phillippe, prior to acting, that focus was Tae Kwon Do and Aikido, which he still practices. "When I was very young and I got into martial arts, that taught me a lot of discipline and focus," he said. Cimino, 25, added that the process of maturing also requires making mistakes from which one can learn, something Zac does. Cimino previously played high schoolers in the series Love, Victor and Never Have I Ever, and in films like Senior Year. "The way he's learning how to express himself is through racing and honestly, through making those mistakes and hanging out with the wrong people," Cimino said. "Zac is very much trying to find his own path and forge his way." Cimino and his character share an interest in cars. The week of his interview, Cimino had completed an auto project of his own. "I have two Miatas and there was one I was working on this week," he said. "I was changing the brakes and upgrading it and I just got it running again." Cimino praised the Mazda Miata's weight distribution, which he said makes it more maneuverable than other models. "I think there's something fun about driving a slow car fast," he said. "You don't need a really fast car to enjoy ripping through the canyons." The actors also appreciate how Motorheads shows how the characters improve with practice. Cimino believes in the rule, popularized by Malcolm Gladwell, that mastery takes thousands of hours of experience. "I still take acting class," Cimino said. "I really find it interesting to work with people like Ryan or people that just have way more experience than me. I feel like I learned so much from that." Phillippe agreed with that lesson. He was a teenager when he debuted on the soap opera One Life to Live in 1993, and appeared in movies from Crimson Tide and Crash to Gosford Park and Macgruber in his 20s and 30s. "Natural talent will only take you so far," Phillippe said. "Everything has to be honed and it has to be cultivated from that point." When it came to driving on Motorheads, Cimino let the stunt drivers handle the scenes. Though Cimino obtained a Level 2 stunt driving certification, he understood the production not allowing its lead actors behind the wheel. "With insurance and everything like that, realistically it's more wise to let someone else drive," Cimino said. "I'm hoping for the day that I can really hop behind the wheel and show my stuff." Cimino was allowed to drive Dottie, a training vehicle the characters practice on in a junkyard. "When I was driving it, we had a bunch of cameras strapped to it so like you better drive carefully," Cimino said. "Like, don't crash this car now because there's a bunch of cameras on it. So I had to drive it very slowly." Having been a part of teen ensembles like Cruel Intentions and I Know What You Did Last Summer, Phillippe enjoyed his new role as a mentor. "I felt a little bit like Yoda on set sometimes," he joked. "It's a great group of kids. It's infectious to be around that kind of energy. I like to share whatever I can in regards to my experience to help them with where they're headed. So it's a really nice position to be in." Those two Phillippe movies in particular have been revived with new casts: Prime Video produced a Cruel Intentions series last year and a new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie opens this summer. Jennifer Love Hewitt reprises her role from the original I Know What You Did Last Summer, in which Phillippe's character did not survive. "It certainly makes me feel a little bit like a dinosaur, the fact that they're remaking so many projects that I've been in," Phillippe said. "It's certainly a compliment for the originals that we made and I'm curious to see what the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie is like. It's always fun to see who they cast and which direction they go to modernize."

Rebel Wilson reveals wife Ramona Agruma's family wasn't ‘accepting' of their relationship: ‘Because it was the same-sex wedding..'
Hollywood star has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of her love story with wife Ramona Agruma . While the couple now enjoy a joyful and united family life, things weren't always easy – especially when it came to family acceptance . Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The actress, best known for her roles in films like 'Pitch Perfect' and 'Senior Year', recently spoke about the emotional journey during an appearance on SiriusXM Hits1's Ben +1 show. Rebel's Family Said Yes — But Not Everyone Did Wilson revealed that her own family were supportive from the beginning when she shared news of her relationship with Ramona Agruma. But for Ramona's side, things were more complicated. As Wilson shared on Ben +1, 'my family was very accepting of the relationship,' but when it came to now-wife Agruma, 'at first her family wasn't,' reported People magazine. This cultural hesitation wasn't permanent, though, and time seemed to soften the situation. 'It just took them a little bit of time,' the 'Pitch Perfect' star added. 'I think some people from some cultures — because it was the same-sex wedding , I guess. They just needed a little bit of time, and now you wouldn't even notice that anything had happened previously.' From Uncertainty to a Dream Wedding In the end, love won. Rebel and Ramona tied the knot in September 2024, celebrating their union in a beautiful ceremony in Italy. And what's more, Ramona's once-hesitant family showed up in full support. Wilson shared joyfully, 'all of (Agruma's) beautiful family came' to their wedding in Italy last autumn, 'and it's almost like there wasn't any drama.' The romantic Italian wedding marked a milestone for the couple who first went public with their relationship in June 2022. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now At the time, Wilson posted a sweet photo on Instagram, captioned, 'I thought I was searching for a Prince … but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess #loveislove.' Building a Life and Family Together Since making their relationship public, Wilson and Agruma have taken several big steps together — including parenting. The actress became a mum in November 2022 when she welcomed her daughter Royce via surrogate. Ramona has been right there beside her as they raise their now two-year-old child. Today, the couple are living a happy, blended life — with both sides of the family now involved and present. 'It is a really happy ending, and we've just had both Ramona's parents come and stay with us at our new house and stuff, so yeah. It was never feuding,' Wilson said. Time Heals — And That's OK Rebel didn't shy away from acknowledging that the path to this harmony took patience. 'It took them time, which is fair enough,' she said. 'They're from a different culture, but all worked out in the end, which I think is a good message.' Donald Trump Slaps 100% Tariff On Foreign Films; Calls Hollywood Decline A 'Security Threat'

Rebel Wilson says she was 'seen differently' by Hollywood as soon as she lost weight
Rebel Wilson was "seen differently" by Hollywood as soon as she lost weight. The 45-year-old actress was initially known for her comedic roles such as Fat Amy in 'Pitch Perfect' and Brynn in 'Bridesmaids' but once she shed the pounds, she was able to take a more dramatic approach to her film career. Speaking on SirusXM, she said: "When I lost a lot of weight in 2020, I lost like 70 or 80 pounds, from that point, I started getting offered more serious roles. I did this British indie movie that was really serious about traumatic brain injury and now I'm playing Lady Capulet [in 'Juliet and Romeo'] so I kind of un-typecast myself by losing weight and I loved being the bigger, funny girl. "I loved playing Fat Amy in the 'Pitch Perfect' movies, it was so cool. That still is me in so many respects but I guess, once I did lose weight, people started to see me a bit differently." The 'Senior Year' star recalled that when she initially stared out in her career, she did want to be more of a "serious actress" but was able to get her foot in the door via her comedic abilities but has now been able to "go back to [her] roots" with her current projects. She explained: "Weirdly, when I very first started acting in Australia, I wanted to be a serious actress. I wanted to be like Dame Judi Dench. I wanted to be really serious, it's just I had something that people liked to laugh at. And then Nicole Kidman gave me this scholarship to come to America and specialise in comedy, so that's what I did. And when I came to Hollywood, I was just like the full comedy girl but now it's kind of like almost going back to my roots as an actress and doing some serious stuff as well."

Rebel Wilson embarks on six-week health 'challenge'
Rebel Wilson is embarking on a six-week health "challenge". The 'Pitch Perfect' actress - who has two-year-old daughter Royce with wife Ramona Agruma - has overindulged over the Easter period and is determined to be a "healthier version" of herself so plans to give up some of her favourite sweet treats. She said in a video shared to Instagram: "So who's up for a six-week health challenge? I know I am. "I've been really indulging over Easter and also, quite, frankly, for the last couple months, and I really want to be a healthier version of me. "I'm going to give up chocolate and ice cream for the next six weeks, what are you going to give up?" As well as sharing what she plans to give up, Rebel, 45, also revealed she is planning to adopt new habits for the sake of both her mental and physical health. She added: "Instead, each week, I'm going to do something positive for my health. This week, every day, I'm going to be grateful for five things and I'm going to write it down." Rebel urged her fans to join her in the challenge. She captioned her post: "The challenge is to give up 1-3 things you've been indulging in lately and instead do something positive for your health (mental and physical) - so this week it's to write down 5 things every night that you're grateful for!" The 'Senior Year' actress previously shed 77lbs and later admitted she was "ashamed" of her unhealthy eating habits but decided to turn her lifestyle around after doctors told her that her weight could be the reason she was struggling to conceive. Speaking on UK TV show 'Loose Women', Rebel - whose daughter was born to a surrogate - explained: "I do believe in body positivity and beauty in any shape and size. "I didn't think being bigger stopped me from anything but what I was ashamed of was, these unhealthy eating behaviours, which was basically normally late at night by myself. What really motivated me, it was actually not for me, not for my own physical appearance or health, but it was really when I went to see a fertility doctor and he said that if I was healthier, I'd have a much better chance of having a child." But Rebel - who shot to fame as Fat Amy in the 'Pitch Perfect' film series - did have some doubts about how losing weight might affect her career because by this point she had already been "pigeon-holed" into a certain kind of role even though she had been "struggling with obesity" the whole time. She said: "I guess logically, I knew at the time I, you know, struggled with obesity and, 'Do I change my health for the better?' but then I'd lose this pigeonhole I had in the business and I might lose my career."
