Brad Marchand to make Panthers' debut vs. Utah
March 28 - Brad Marchand is expected to make his debut for the Florida Panthers on Friday night when his new team hosts the Utah Hockey Club in Sunrise, Fla. "We'll get him through warmups and see," Panthers coach Paul Maurice said on Friday morning, "but he's healed past that. We expect him to play." Marchand, acquired from the Boston Bruins on March 7 for a conditional second-round draft pick in 2027, has not been able to play for Florida because of an upper-body injury. Marchand, 36, had played his entire 16-season career with the Bruins, recording 422 goals and 976 points in 1,090 games. He has 21 goals and 26 assists to go with a minus-8 rating in 61 games this season. He had been Boston's captain since the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign. Marchand has acclimated himself to his new surroundings since the trade. "He's part of the group, and he's had the opportunity to get all the social parts out of the way," Maurice said. "He's dying to get into the game and play the game with the guys out there." Florida (43-25-3, 89 points) has been idle since posting a 4-3 shootout victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday. The Panthers are tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning for second place in the Atlantic Division, one point behind the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Lightning breezed to an 8-0 win Thursday over the Utah Hockey Club (32-29-11, 75 points), who have lost two games in a row. Starting goalie Karel Vejmelka surrendered four goals on 11 shots Thursday before being pulled midway into the second period. Jaxson Stauber gave up four goals on 10 shots in relief. "It was really disappointing the way we came out, didn't win enough battles, didn't get on the inside," Utah coach Andre Tourigny said. "Everybody's in the same boat -- coaches, players. ... We all have to look ourselves in the mirror. The good thing is we're playing tomorrow." The Utah Hockey Club fell behind 2-0 just 4:20 into the game and then allowed four goals in the second period. "That was terrible, from the start to the finish, we didn't play nearly the style of game that we wanted to play, and it showed," Utah defenseman Mikhail Sergachev said. "We have to make a decision if we want to be in the playoffs or not. This is kind of a punch in the face." Sergachev played his first game in Tampa since being traded during the offseason. He was with the Lightning from 2017 to 2024 and helped them win Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021. He was honored with a video tribute during the first period. "It's tough to talk about it right now, honestly, after a game like that," Sergachev said. "But I said in between periods that I really appreciated it. It was great. ... Thanks for the warm reception. The fans are great, everybody's great. It was supposed to be a special night."

Mikhail Sergachev Skate Save Proves Vital in 3-2 Win Over Anaheim
Every win matters in the wild, wild Western Conference. Especially when arguably your biggest opponents, Vancouver and Calgary, end their game in a 4-3 shootout. With Utah moving just two points behind the aforementioned teams after its 3-2 win against Anaheim, the impending matchup with Vancouver on Sunday, March 16, carries more weight than ever. But before worrying about any future games and its playoff implications, Utah needed to take care of business against the Ducks first. Thankfully for Utah, Mikhail Sergachev is on its team: HUGE SKATE SAVE BY SERGACHEV ⛸️ 📺: @NHL_On_TNT & @SportsonMax ➡️ — NHL (@NHL) March 13, 2025 With Vejmelka coming out of the net, anticipating a shot from Ducks' forward Ryan Strome, a quick move with the puck gave Strome an open lane right behind Vejmelka. Despite being tangled with Anaheim's Alex Killorn, Sergachev saw that Strome was about to have a wide-open net. Just as Strome was getting what looked to be a surefire goal, Sergachev kicked his right skate out at the last second to keep Utah's lead intact. "Really nice save by him there in the second," said Dylan Guenther. "I think he's just a big leader for us off the ice. When he talks, everybody's listening. He's the backbone of our team, and it's great to have him." Though the play happened midway through the second period when Utah was up only 1-0, Sergachev's skate proved to be the difference, keeping Utah from playing in its third consecutive overtime. While two back-to-back penalties from Sergachev eventually led to a game-tying goal from Anaheim early in the third, he didn't let the mistakes get to his head and later assisted on what became the game-winning goal for Guenther. "So, it was just good recognition. I feel like we've gotten pretty good chemistry as we've continued to play together." While the goal from Gunner proved to be all Utah needed to secure the win, it also gave Sergachev a significant accolade, giving him his 300th assist of his career. It wasn't just Sergachev who reached an important milestone in this game. Utah's Jack McBain also achieved a personal milestone, tying his career-high mark of 12 goals with Utah's first goal of the night. McBain gets us on the board first 💪 — Utah Hockey Club (@utahhockeyclub) March 13, 2025 With Alexander Kerfoot scoring Utah's other goal—his first since signing his extension—Utah avenged its 5-4 shootout loss to Anaheim back in December. "Definitely a huge win, huge home stand," said Barrett Hayton. "Obviously, it would have been really nice to get all four points, but the way we were able to fight back in that Toronto game and get a point, it's huge for us." With an upcoming road trip against Seattle, Vancouver, and Edmonton, securing tonight's win could go a long way for Utah in its hunt for the playoffs. But with head coach André Tourigny emphasizing that every game is a playoff game for this team, Utah will treat every matchup with the utmost priority. But considering the team 'love[s] each other' and 'fight[s] for each other,' in the words of Tourigny, Utah should be ready for any adversity coming its way. Report: Utah HC's Connor Ingram Enters NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program The National Hockey League Players' Association and the National Hockey League announced today that goaltender Connor Ingram of the Utah Hockey Club will be unavailable to his team for an indefinite period while he receives care from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

Utah nips Ducks, remains in thick of wild-card hunt
March 13 - Dylan Guenther had a goal and an assist for the Utah Hockey Club in a 3-2 win against the visiting Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night in Salt Lake City. Jack McBain and Alexander Kerfoot also scored and Karel Vejmelka made 19 saves for Utah, which ran its point streak to four games (2-0-2) and moved within two points of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Alex Killorn and Mason McTavish scored and Ville Husso made 36 saves in his team debut for the Ducks, who were coming off a 7-4 loss to the visiting Washington Capitals on Tuesday. Anaheim is eight points out of a playoff spot after going 1-4-0 in its past five games. Utah defenseman Mikhail Sergachev saved a goal early in the second period, but later committed back-to-back minor penalties. The Ducks capitalized on the second when McTavish scored on a one-timer from the right circle to tie it 2-2 at 3:22 of the third period. Utah then went on a power play and the top unit kept the puck in the Anaheim zone for an extended stretch before Guenther scored with a one-timer from the left circle for a 3-2 lead at 7:03. McBain scored on a deflection to give Utah a 1-0 lead at 11:03 of the first period. Sergachev made the goal-saving play when he kicked aside a close-in try by Ryan Strome after he had beaten Vejmelka on a drive to the net at 5:48 of the second period. Utah pinned Anaheim in its own zone before Guenther centered a pass from off the wall to Kerfoot cutting to the net and he slipped the puck past Husso to extend the lead to 2-0 at 14:31 of the second. Sergachev earned his 300th NHL point with an assist on the play. The Ducks began their comeback shortly afterward. Killorn hopped off the bench and received a pass from Leo Carlsson before squeezing a wrist shot between Vejmelka's blocker and left hip with a wrist shot from the left circle to make it 2-1 at 15:53. Husso was acquired from the Detroit Red Wings on Feb. 24 for future considerations.

Former Red Wings Defender Signs New Deal
It's the time of year when news is a-plenty. The Detroit Red Wings are keeping their eyes and ears peeled. Like every team in the league, they are grinding away at improving their club until Friday's Trade Deadline. One club that is eyeing the future while still being competitive now is the Utah Hockey Club. They have tremendous cap space and are looking to spend it. Määttä is staying in Salt Lake! 🏔️🩵Utah Hockey Club has signed defenseman Olli Määttä to a three-year contract extension. — Utah Hockey Club (@utahhockeyclub) March 3, 2025 Before being traded to Utah at the end of October, Maatta had spent two full years with the Red Wings. He was traded in exchange for a third-round draft pick in 2025. Maatta had played seven games with the Red Wings, averaging 15:52 in ice time and recording zero points. He was also a healthy scratch several times. The story in Utah has been considerably different. In 51 games, he's collected 14 points and been a fixture in their top-four, playing 20:41 a game. Maatta has been stapled to Mikhail Sergachev's hip, and this year, he has played over 36 percent of his total ice time with the Russian workhorse. John Marino and Sergachev are the only defenders on Utah's blueline who have played more minutes per game than Maatta. Marino has averaged 21:19, Sergachev 25:32. Sergachev has played the third-most per game of any defender in the NHL. While it was obvious that things weren't working with the Red Wings this year, it's nice to see a player get a fresh start and make good on it.
