David de Gea lays down challenge to Man Utd transfer target - 'It isn't enough'

Fiorentina striker Moise Kean has enjoyed a stellar season, which has caught Manchester United's attention, and David de Gea has called on the Italian to continue producing Fiorentina frontman Moise Kean has been told "one good year isn't enough" after excelling in Serie A - which has attracted the attention of Manchester United. ‌ The Italian has endured some less memorable stints in his career, previously struggling to make an impact during his time at Everton. The Toffees signed Kean from Juventus and then sold him back there after he couldn't deliver consistently. ‌ Now he's proving his worth after finding a home in Florence. Last term Kean scored a career high 25 goals in 44 games and was named in the Serie A Team of the Season. Interest in him bloomed when it emerged he had a £44.5m release contract in his contract - but the deadline to activate it has reportedly passed. ‌ United are looking to bolster their forward line and want a No 9 to compliment new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. They've also been linked with the likes of Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Kean is among those names on their shortlist but ex-United star David de Gea has told his new team-mate that his stellar season in front of goal cannot be a one off and he must replicate his numbers. De Gea told Italian outlet Cronache: "When I arrived, my Italian was terrible and we spoke in English. Now I've improved and I communicate with him [Kean] more easily. He had an excellent season, but now for me he needs to have another good year, and then another, and so on. "One good year isn't enough, he needs to continue like this and build on what he's done. He's put in some very good numbers, but he needs to keep it up and prove he can do it over time." De Gea has revealed he would never have stayed to play in England if it wasn't for United despite his contract being allowed to run down before leaving in 2023. The Spaniard spent more than a decade in Manchester before finding a new home in Italy. He said: "I only wanted Manchester United, and while it's true that I received offers from England, I knew it would be impossible for me to play anywhere else. I've spent my whole life there, it's the club that shaped me and allowed me to have a wonderful career. Football is like that, unexpected things happen. Like the opportunity to come here to Florence."

David de Gea sends message to 'excellent' Man Utd transfer target

Manchester United hero David de Gea is full of praise for one of his Fiorentina teammates, who has emerged as a top transfer target for the Red Devils. After securing the signings of forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Ruben Amorim's next priority is to buy at least one new striker. Marcus Rashford is joining Barcelona, Rasmus Hojlund is woefully out of from and Chido Obi Martin is not ready to play such an active first-team role. United have an interest in a number of No.9s including Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and PSG's Randal Kolo Muani. Another they have been linked with is Moise Kean who previously spent three years at Everton following a £24million move. The transfer proved to be a disaster however, as the Italian scored just four goals in 39 appearances before being sold back to Juventus, who in turn sold him to Fiorentina last summer. This move proved to be a great one however, as Kean scored a career high 25 goals in 44 games and was named in the Serie A Team of the Season. Off the back of this success, there has been much interest in the 25-year-old, who has a £44.5m release contract in his contract but it is believed that the deadline to activate it has passed. Among Kean's admirers is De Gea, who also moved to Florence last summer following a year out of the game after he was controversially released by then-United boss Erik ten Hag. The goalkeeper says he has a 'very good' relationship with the striker but has urged him not to rest on his laurels if he wants to become one if the best goal-scorers around. Appearances: 44 Goals: 25 Minutes per goal: 140 Assists: 3 Yellow cards: 10 'When I arrived, my Italian was terrible and we spoke in English. 'He's put in some very good numbers, but he needs to keep it up and prove he can do it over time.' Addressing his future, Kean suggested in July that his priority is to stay in Florence for the upcoming season: 'I'm very motivated to move forward. Fiorentina has given me so much and has always supported me. 'Now it's important to return with renewed motivation and give my best for Fiorentina.' De Gea, spent 12 years at Old Trafford and has now revealed that during his sabbatical he had the chance to sign for a Premier League club but declined out of loyalty to the Red Devils. 'I turned down offers from England because after spending so many years at a club like United, you feel like you don't want to play for another club in England. Man Utd make fresh transfer move for £44.5m star 'in the last few hours'

Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit Moise Kean and are plotting a possible bid for the Fiorentina forward this summer, according to reports in Italy. Kean has managed to get his career back on track over the last 12 months at Fiorentina having endured difficult spells with both Everton and Juventus. The 25-year-old racked up 19 goals and three assists across an exceptional debut season for Florence-based outfit in the Italian top flight – and was subsequently named in the Serie A Team of the Season. However, speculation has been mounting that Kean could be set to move on from Fiorentina, with the allure of the Premier League representing a 'real danger' for the club, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The report suggests United have 'reappeared' for Kean 'in the last few hours' and Old Trafford bosses are monitoring the situation with increasing interest while 'setting their sights' on a potential deal. A release clause in Kean's contract at Fiorentina means he will be available for a fee of €52million (£44.5m) between July 1-15, which has put the Red Devils on red alert. Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Qadsiah have also been credited with a strong interest in Kean and could rival United for the ex-Everton attacker over the coming weeks and months. Kean has not ruled out the possibility that he could stay on in Florence, though, and Fiorentina have made it clear they do not want to lose their star forward in private discussions with the Italy international. It's claimed Kean is currently on vacation and is in no hurry to make any sudden decisions over his future. Kean's current deal, which he signed upon arrival at Fiorentina, runs through to June 2029. United have set out their stall this summer on the back of a wretched 2024/25 campaign, in which club missed out on Champions League qualification and finished with their worst-ever points total in the Premier League. Determined to strengthen Ruben Amorim's misfiring attack, the Red Devils wrapped up a £62.5million deal with Wolves to make Matheus Cunha their first signing of the transfer window. Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has also been heavily linked with a move to United, with the Cameroon international ready to turn down Tottenham in favour of a switch to the Theatre of Dreams. 'It's a bit new for me, I would say, but that can be the life of a footballer. You need to accept it,' Mbeumo told Sky Sports when asked about interest from United and Spurs. Meanwhile, former United defender Rio Ferdinand has encouraged the club to explore a possible deal for wantaway Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Asked who he would like to see join United this summer, Ferdinand said on his Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel: 'No.9, they already know who I want. The comments know, the people know who I want, who I would go and get: Osimhen! 'It looks like he's turned down Al-Hilal… he must be waiting for Manchester United. 'I don't know if Manchester United are going to come. That's the problem.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Man Utd and Spurs turn attention to Arsenal-linked Roma centre-back

Manchester United and Tottenham are both interested in Roma centre-back Evan Ndicka, who has already caught the attention of Arsenal, according to reports. The 25-year-old defender has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, even before he joined Roma from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023. The Ivory Coast international instead moved to the Italian capital on a free transfer, signing a five-year contract. Since then he has become a key figure in the Roma starting XI, making 85 appearances in just two seasons, scoring once. Ndicka was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in his final year with Frankfurt and in the Serie A Team of the Season this season with Roma. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. As Roma finished fifth in Serie A and had to settle for a return to the Europa League, the towering central defender continues to be linked with a move. Arsenal were linked with a move earlier this year, but were reportedly informed that Roma had no intention of letting Ndicka leave. That has not quelled speculation and reports from France – where Ndicka was born – have linked Manchester United and Tottenham with possible bids this summer. The report from RMC Sport, via French Football Weekly, states that Ndicka is valued at as little as €40m (£33.7m). However, that seems improbably low given the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United have also been touted as interested parties. If Roma were to sanction a move then there would likely be a bidding way and Ndicka would have his pick of a string of huge clubs. In a recent interview with L'Equipe, the Ivorian refused to be drawn on rumours surrounding his future and insisted he remained fully committed to Roma. 'I'm not pretending that I don't see the rumours,' Ndicka told the French publication last month. But I have respect in Rome and I respect them 'I have three years remaining on my contract, we will see what happens later.' Manchester United are expected to have an extremely busy transfer window, both in terms of incomings and outgoings. More Trending Central defence is not their top priority, with both signings and sales in attack top of the to-do list. Their transfer budget and pull in the market was hampered badly by their defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final, which saw Spurs grab the spot in the Champions League for the forthcoming season. Spurs are now expected to invest heavily, but first they must appoint a new manager after the sacking of Ange Postecoglou. Brentford boss Thomas Frank is expected to be hired as the Australian's replacement.
