Right now, China occupies Bagram air base in Afghanistan: U.S. President Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that China now occupies the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, which was vacated by America in 2021. The U.S. vacated Bagram, its biggest airfield in the country, in July 2021. "...But we were going to keep Bagram, the big Air Force base, which is one hour away from where China makes its nuclear weapons. That's what they do. They make their nuclear missiles, and one hour away from Bagram, and I said you can't give up Bagram,' Mr. Trump said while addressing the 2025 National Day of Prayer at the White House Thursday. "They gave up Bagram, and right now, China occupies Bagram. So sad, so crazy. One of the biggest air bases in the world, among the strongest and longest runways anywhere in the world, one hour away from where China makes its nuclear missiles,' Mr. Trump said. Blaming the Joe Biden administration, Trump said, 'You wouldn't have had the horror show at Afghanistan, which I think is what gave (Russian President Vladimir) Putin the resolve to go in and do what he did because he looked at how badly we got out. "We lost 13 soldiers, and 42 were horribly injured. Nobody ever talks about them, the legs, the arm, the arms, the face. Horribly injured, that would have never happened. Not even possible to have happened, and we would have been out before he was out,' Mr. Trump said. He appeared to make a reference to the August 26, 2021, Abbey Gate bombing at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul that killed 13 United States military service members and about 160 civilians. Trump has called the American withdrawal from Afghanistan under the Biden administration 'disastrous and incompetent.' "Not that they were withdrawing, it was the way they withdrew. Perhaps the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country,' Trump had said in an address to the Joint Session of Congress earlier this year. 'It would have been great to have while we were keeping it, but they ran out of there like nobody could believe, and I think Putin saw that and he said, 'Wow, this is a great time. I can go get it' because it was the apple of his eye. I could always see that. I talked to him for hours. It was the apple of his eye, but I said, 'Vladimir, don't even think about it'. And he wouldn't have thought about it. But when he saw that, I think that's the reason actually he gained some additional courage, and he went in,' ,Mr. Trump said. Bagram Airfield is located in Afghanistan's Parwan Province, approximately 11 kilometres southeast of the city of Charikar and 47 kilometres north of Kabul. The airfield has an 11,800-foot runway capable of serving bomber and large cargo aircraft.

Bill Maher Labels Trump ‘One of the Most Effective Politicians'

Decades-long critic of Donald Trump, Bill Maher, offered a rare show of admiration for the president days before his White House Dinner, touting him as 'one of the most effective politicians.' On Sunday's episode of Maher's Club Random podcast, which was taped before his White House visit, the comedian praised Trump's political prowess to NewsNation anchor Chris Cuomo. 'I mean Trump is one of the most effective politicians, whatever you think of the policy and him as a person,' he said. 'Just him as a politician, just understanding that [you should] always lean in to being more who you are.' 'The people are not savvy about issues, but they smell a phony a mile away and that kind of s---, nobody else does it,' he added. Maher praised Trump for claiming that he threatened Taliban leader Abdul Ghani Baradar before Biden withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021, the president telling Sean Hannity that he 'sent him a picture of his house.' 'When he did that thing where the guy came in from the Taliban and he said, 'This is an aerial picture of your house. If during our withdrawal one American is hurt, just know I know where you live,'' Maher said. 'I was like, 'Oh, can we just play the music now? Because I don't care it's Donald Trump and he's the worst person ever, blah, blah, blah – I f---ing love that!,' he said. He also referenced another Trump moment that stuck out to him as a fellow New Yorker. 'One time they were doing something, something was going on and he said, 'You know what? When you come after New York, you gotta go through me.' It's like, oh—hometown boy,' he remarked. Maher said he would talk more in depth about his experience at the White House on the April 11 episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. The White House visit was organized by Trump supporter and musician Kid Rock, whom Trump said he was doing a 'favor' for. In a Truth Social post, Trump criticized Maher as 'a man who has been unjustifiably critical of anything, or anyone, TRUMP,' likening him to the Democrats who 'wouldn't stand, they wouldn't applaud, they wouldn't smile or laugh and, certainly, they wouldn't be in any way 'nice'' during his address to the Joint Session of Congress. 'Who knows, though, maybe I'll be proven wrong? In any event, I'm doing a favor for a friend,' he said. Maher, on his part, praised Trump for having 'alpha' moments that any Democratic politician has yet to demonstrate. 'He has those moments that no other politician has,' Maher said. 'And the Democrats have to find that guy.' 'You got to appeal to people at a sort of post-civilization stage, where we're kind of at, at a primal level, you just do' he added. 'And Trump does it better than anybody.' On the March 28 episode of The Chris Cuomo Project podcast, Maher compared his then upcoming dinner with Trump to the 'Nixon to China thing,' referencing Nixon's 1972 visit to China which ended the 25 years of diplomatic isolation between the two nations. 'If they expect me to be leaving in a MAGA hat, they're gonna be very disappointed, but I know they don't,' he said. 'And I think it's gonna be, you know, look, it probably will accomplish very little, but you gotta try, man. You gotta try.' Kid Rock, who had been on Maher's podcast before, told Varney & Co. Wednesday that he was 'just trying to break bread with some of our biggest critics' at the White House dinner and 'bring a little bit of civility back to this country for reasonable people.' 'You know we broke bread and talked about things we had in common and it could not have been more cordial, more nice,' he said. 'I think everyone was so pleasantly surprised.'

President Donald Trump begins his address to a Joint Session of Congress. President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he wanted to make interest payments on car loans tax deductible – but only for vehicles made in America. Trump previously floated the idea at a November rally in North Carolina, according to Reuters. It's among several proposed tax breaks from Trump, along with an end to taxes on tips, overtime pay, and Social Security benefits. "The next phase of our plan to deliver the greatest economy in history is for this Congress to pass tax cuts for everybody," Trump said during a formal address. Trump's address: President claims 'shocking levels' of fraud in Social Security. Here's what we know. Last week, the House narrowly advanced the GOP plan for Trump's legislative agenda, kickstarting a process that could extend Trump's 2017 tax cuts and new cuts worth $4.5 trillion over the next decade. It's unclear how Trump's tax relief for auto loan interest would play out. An unlimited, above-the-line deduction could cost up to $10 billion per year, according to estimates from the Tax Policy Center, a joint venture of the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution.
