Has urged Centre for repair of damaged India-Bangladesh fencing in Tripura: CM Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) said he has urged the Centre to repair the damaged barbed wire fencing of the State's International Border with Bangladesh. The northeastern State shares 856 km of border with the neighbouring country and around 80% of the border has been fenced so far while fencing in the remaining portion has been stalled on different grounds. Barbed wire fencing at several patches has been damaged owing to reasons such as landslides, rains or other natural causes and cutting off by miscreants. "During the NEC plenary session in Agartala [December 2024], I have taken up repairing of barbed wire fencing and erection of new fencing along unfenced patches for urgent attention. Several patches have been damaged for different reasons. Not only at the NEC session, I have also highlighted the issue with the Central leadership on various occasions. This is under the Centre's consideration. I will bring the matter to Delhi's notice again," the Chief Minister told PTI. On infiltration, Mr. Saha said he had discussed the matter with the Border Security Forces (BSF) and other security agencies to intensify vigil along the border to foil any infiltration attempt from across the border. Claiming that infiltration has not increased at the pace it was anticipated in the northeastern State, he said the agencies are taking whatever steps are needed to take for deportation of illegal immigrants. Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled the 'Seva, Sushan, Garib Kalyan of 11 Saal' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the party State headquarters in Agartala. It highlights the success of 11 years of Mr. Modi as the Prime Minister from serving the poor to national security to emerging economic power. BJP State president Rajib Bhattacharjee and BJP general secretary Bipin Debbarma were present at the function.

Centre releases e-book on Modi Government's achievements over 11 years

The Union Government has released an e-book, 'Viksit Bharat ka Amrit Kaal: Seva, Sushasan, Garib Kalyan ke 11 Saal', on its achievements across all the sectors over the past 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'These 11 years have been dedicated to bringing about development which is inclusive, progressive, and sustainable. The government under Prime Minister Modi has been steadfast in its commitment to creating equity and opportunity for all citizens. Mr. Modi has brought the politics of development — Vikasvaad — into the mainstream, making it the focal point around which political discourse and policy action now revolves,' said its introduction. Editorial: Growing pains: On economic performance, Viksit Bharat Divided into 14 chapters, the book covers issues ranging from schemes for the poor and marginalised, farmer welfare, economy, healthcare, women/youth empowerment, infrastructure development, tech revolution, ease-of-living for middle class, the progress made in north-eastern States, national security and foreign policy, environment and sustainability initiatives, and preservation/propagation of India's rich culture and heritage. 'Since assuming office in 2014, Mr. Modi has remained firm in his resolve of keeping 'India First' in every policy formulation and action. This resolve is evident in government's handling of both external and internal security, economic management, empowerment schemes for marginalised groups, efforts at cultural conservation etc,' it said. Tackling COVID-19 The book said the outcomes could be seen across sectors whether it was in vaccinating the entire eligible population in record time against COVID-19, recording the nation's highest ever exports in history, in the digital revolution, in achieving monumental targets for rural electrification, in building world-class infrastructure or in providing drinking water facilities across households, etc. 'The inclusive and holistic approach of development and welfare schemes has ensured irreversible empowerment for various marginalised groups, helping them become aspirational and self-reliant,' it said. The chapters provide detailed information on the measures taken by the government and the impact they have made. 'India's assertion on the global stage has also undergone a remarkable evolution. The success of Operation Sindoor demonstrated a new India — resolute, swift, and sovereign in action...,' said the book. 'Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025, was a tri-services, measured, focused and non-escalatory precision military response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Coordinated through India's Integrated Command and Control Strategy, it neutralised nine terror camps across the border. The operation highlighted India's joint force capability, strategic foresight, and resolve against cross-border terrorism,' it added.

NLCIL's unveils waste-to-art sculpture in Delhi

The NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has installed 'Jai Hind Chakra', a sculpture crafted from scrap metals, near the new Parliament House in New Delhi. A press note said the installation, symbolising national pride and environmental consciousness, was designed and developed as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 4.0 campaign by the Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Coal. The artefact, measuring 10 feet by 10 feet, reflects the colours of the national flag and aims to promote awareness about environmental protection and waste management. Designed using a mirror-image concept, the sculpture appears identical from both front and the rear. According to the press note, as part of initiatives in line with the Seva campaign and 'Waste to Art' thrust, the NLCIL undertook several creative efforts to transform industrial waste into valuable art. Among these was the development of 'Punarutthan Charkha Park', a themed park featuring sculptures and models made from scrap materials. Additionally, an unused building was renovated and converted into NLCIL 'Parampariyam' museum, further promoting sustainability. The Jai Hind Chakra was similarly conceptualized using unused Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) scrap materials sourced from NLCIL Mines. Components like clutch plates and bearings were used to represent strength and mechanical endurance, while pipes and tanks provided structural stability. Specialised fabrication techniques helped shape the sculpture into its final artistic form. Completed within a span of just three weeks, the sculpture was developed under the close supervision and regular inspections of NLCIL CMD Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, the press note said. A total of 1,250 rods and 250 cutting wheels were utilized to ensure the sculpture's intricate design and precision. The sculpture was brought to life by a team of skilled artists led by renowned sculptor Srinivas Padakandla from Vijayawada, who is also a faculty member in the Fine Arts Department at Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur.

Yorkshire Sikh Forum honoured at City Hall for decades of service

More than three decades of voluntary service to Bradford and the wider region, on the part of the Yorkshire Sikh Forum, were recognised at an event at Bradford City Hall in April. Members of the Forum were individually presented with a Certificate of Achievement and a commemorative glass trophy by the Lord Mayor, councillor Beverley Mullaney, on April 29. The Forum was established in 1989 at the request of the Home Office - under the leadership of Ann Widdecombe and then-Minister Kenneth Clarke - to act as a bridge between the Sikh community and UK authorities. In the words of a spokesperson, "the Forum has since served as a key point of contact for community engagement, information dissemination, and ambassadorial representation." While maintaining its independence from religious affiliations, the Forum collaborates with other faith groups, including the Bradford Council of Mosques, Bradford Cathedral, the city's synagogue, and Hindu and Muslim communities. Under the current leadership of Dr Nirmal Singh MBE, the Forum continues to uphold the Sikh principle of Seva - "service above self." The Lord Mayor led the Forum members on a guided tour of City Hall following the ceremony, showcasing historic relics and civic memorabilia.
