Threat of damaging winds, large hail from weekend storms
We are heading into an active weather pattern as we get closer to the weekend across north Georgia, especially Friday night and Saturday. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Late Friday night, a line of strong storms will approach northwest Georgia and move through the area overnight. The highest risk of severe weather is northwest of Atlanta. Storms within this line could have damaging wind gusts and large hail, as even in the month of June that severe weather threat continues. Additional rounds of storms could be strong or severe later Saturday and Sunday. Severe Weather Team 2 will be tracking it all with forecast updates LIVE on Channel 2. Showers, storms on the way for north Georgia as system forms off Atlantic coast
Our rain chances are going up in north Georgia, and the reason is a system we are watching closely in the tropics. It's the time of year where there can be the development of activity in the Gulf and the Atlantic off the East Coast. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Overall, the risk for tropical development along the southeast coast is low, at 10% in the next two days and 10% over the next seven days. Severe Weather Team 2 will be watching it carefully over the next few days, as showers and storms gather along the Atlantic coast. We will feel some impacts, at least indirectly, from this system on Wednesday and Thursday as tropical moisture spins back toward north Georgia. We will have showers and storms in our forecast. We will be updating the timeline and letting you know of the risk of any strong storms LIVE on Channel 2. [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

More hazy skies Tuesday from Canada wildfire smoke
We have been dealing with hazy and smoky skies since the weekend across north Georgia. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] That smoke is coming from wildfires, many of them uncontrolled, over the prairies of central Canada. As of Saturday, there were 77 uncontrolled fires burning across Canada. The alignment of the Jetstream is pushing that smoke right down here toward Georgia. Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan pointed out thick areas of smoke in the upper levels of the atmosphere above us, but not so much on the ground. That's why we are not smelling it, and it is not causing significant air quality issues. The smoke is going to continue to hang out into Tuesday and will filter the sunshine. By Wednesday, the upper-level wind will start to carry that smoke away from us, and we will gradually see more of the blue sky. Severe Weather Team 2 will have forecast updates, as rain returns later this week, on Channel 2. [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

We've had so much severe weather, showers and storms in recent days and weeks.
