Artist Spotlight: Disco Misr - The Trio Turning Archives into Anthems

Disco Misr celebrates 9 years of remixing regional classics, and becoming one of Egypt's most sought-after acts along the way. May 28, 2025 It's been nine years since Disco Misr began reworking classic regional hits into fresh, dancefloor-ready tracks. Whether sampling Abdel Halim or giving a Shaabi tune a new twist, they've created a sound that's equal parts homage, humor, and party. What began as a cheeky rework project between friends has evolved into one of Egypt's most recognisable musical identities, spanning across remixes of classic tunes and chart-topping originals. To mark the occasion, we spent a day with the crew at ZED Park where they're gearing up to launch their new album '9 Tla2y' on May 30th. The title plays on the Arabic phrase "تسعى تلاقي" and perfectly sums up their mix of hustle and happy accidents along the way. Looking back, they shared how they started with zero formal training, just a bunch of ideas and a lot of instinct. Now they're working with some of the region's top musicians and digging through old Egyptian films to find just the right visuals that match their vibe. At one point, the chat got emotional. What started as jokes about crying at shows turned into quiet moments admitting it's already happened, as their journey from small beginnings to sold-out shows has truly sunk in. The album launch at ZED Park on May 30th will be a full day of music and laughs. Alongside Disco Misr, Ash, NEDZ, and Wust El Balad will perform, with standup from The Goats and Khaled Mansour as the MC. The park will be decked out with two giant living rooms and games where guests can win prizes all day long. It's a family-friendly celebration open to all ages, so bring the kids, bring your friends, and get ready for a day to remember. Watch the full interview here:

Kozbara Drops New Summer Track & Video ‘Enta Mish Gai Maaya'

Donning a pair of sunglasses, Kozbara aka Ahmed Bahr put out a music video that has him throwing shade all over social media. May 17, 2025 Egyptian singer and actor Ahmed Bahr, better known as Kozbara, has just released a fiery new track titled 'Enta Mish Gai Maaya'. The song arrives with a high-energy music video on YouTube, with clips already going viral across social media for its lyrics, swagger and extremely loud sense of fashion. Kozbara takes a no-holds-barred approach to ego in the Egyptian Shaabi scene. With bars like 'مفيش سمكه تنافس حوت' ('No fish can compete with a whale'), he carves out a space that's humorous and feisty. Between the wordplay, TikTok catchphrases, and tongue-in-cheek delivery, the line 'ثقة في الله هوقعك' ('With God's confidence, I'll take you down') feels like an allusion to a certain Numbar One. ☝🏼 The track is written and composed by Kozbara, while the music video is produced by Abu Abeer, and directed by Omar Donga. The video sees him lyrically throwing hands in the middle of a traffic jam, donning a pair of sunglasses and a chromatically chaotic outfit, and occasionally getting cut off by an ostrich.

Renowned Egyptian Shaabi lyricist Amal El-Taer dies at 66 - Music - Arts & Culture

Renowned Egyptian Shaabi poet and lyricist Amal El-Taer passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday following a long battle with illness. El-Taer, born in 1959 in the bustling working-class district of Shubra, Cairo, was deeply inspired by his environment. His surroundings and lyrical talent helped him write hundreds of songs, each reflecting different facets of society and life. His prowess and the sheer volume of songs he wrote earned him the title Sha'er al-Alf Ughniyya (Poet of a Thousand Songs). He wrote many popular Shaabi songs for famed artists, including Hakim, Tarek El-Sheikh and Abdelbaset Hamouda. Hamdy Batchan's Kalemny Fahemny (1988) is one of the hits that kickstarted his career and put him on the local music industry map. His work includes Angham's Sadeket El-Tefolah (1990), Hany Shaker's Shawer (1991), as well as Tarek El-Sheikh's Habibi Ya (1993), Alby Dak (1995), Wafar Demooak (1997), and Kalam W Bas (2000). Additionally, El-Taer wrote Ya Saqeny El-Mor and Eshhad Aleihom Ya Zaman for renowned singer Muharram Fouad. In 1992, El-Taer started collaborating with Hakim. He penned several songs for Hakim's Nazra album, including the title composition, Ya Helw La, Mawal El-Zaman, El-Wad Da Helw, and El-Boad La. The hit album paved the way for another collaboration between the two legends. El-Taer went on to write most of Hakim's following album, Nar (1994), including Nar, El-Hak Aleih, Mawal El-Sabr, Habibi Law, Khod Ya Helw, and Honna. He continued writing for Hakim until the early 2000s. He contributed to the 1997 album Efred and wrote hits such as Eh Ely Beyehsal Dah and El-Salamou Aleikom, among others. El-Taer penned some of Abdelbaset Hamouda's most renowned songs, including Donia Agiba (1985), Hamouda Edeny Albak (2002), and Ana Msh Arefny (2014). Artists across the industry, including Samo Zain, Khaled Aggag, Magdy Talaat, and Hanan, appreciated El-Taer's lyrical genius and performed his songs. In an ON TV interview last July, El-Taer discussed his five-year-long battle with illness, which finally claimed his life. Short link:
