Baldur's Gate 3 may have the worst video game merchandise ever made

A set of figurines depicting the main characters from Baldur's Gate 3 has been upsetting and amusing fans in equal measure, as a refund is offered by the manufacturer. Most people like to own a physical memento of their favourite games, whether it's a T-shirt, key ring, or some kind of action figure or statute. You can get all that and more for most big name video games, although there has perhaps been less for smash hit Baldur's Gate 3 than you might expect. Board game maker WizKids has attempted to fill that gap in the market with a range of miniatures recreating the game's lead characters, but the end result has, to put things mildly, been something of a disappointment. The Dungeons & Dragons: Icons Of The Realms – Baldur's Gate 3 is a set of seven figurines that costs £49.99 in the UK. That's relatively cheap for this sort of thing, which is already a red flag, although no one was prepared for just how bad the final product has turned out. Although the official promotional images all seem quite impressive, the actual toys don't look anything like them. As one fan on Reddit pointed out, the underlying miniatures are perfectly fine but the paint seems to have been applied by someone that's either partially sighted, drunk, or both. Other fans on Reddit compared it, unfavourably, to the work of Picasso and the infamous 'Potato Jesus' restoration of a 19th century fresco in Spain. The characters are Astarion, Karlach, Gale, Shadowheart, Wyll, Lae'zel, and Withers; they're all awful but Shadowheart seems to have come off the worst, at least in terms of the photos that have been posted online – but it's very likely the quality varies greatly. To their credit, WizKids has admitted the set is awful and is offering a full refund. 'Unfortunately, we missed the mark on this goal with the D&D Icons of the Realms: Baldur's Gate 3 Character Boxed Set,' says a statement on their website. More Trending 'We're aware of the recent reports and complaints and are taking them seriously. Our team is currently investigating these issues and taking action to make this right for those whose purchases were negatively affected and to ensure these issues do not recur in future products and reprints. 'Please accept our sincerest apologies for the frustration and disappointment these quality issues caused our customers. We, too, feel the same as the final product did not meet our expectations or that of our Wizards of the Coast partner.' After a quick google we found the set being sold at Zatu Games for a reduced price of £43.19. There's also what looks to be blind box versions of the same characters plus additional enemies and monsters at Forbidden Planet. There don't seem to be any specific reports about the quality of those, but for obvious reasons you might want to think twice before giving them a try. WizKids' Baldur's Gate 3 mini figures look like they've been through the hells

WizKids did Baldur's Gate 3 dirty with its new D&D Icons of the Realms collection of miniature figures. The anticipated collection based on the beloved RPG (my personal 2023 GOTY) launched in April, and some buyers noticed that the characters look nothing — and I mean nothing — like how they were advertised. These cursed recreations of Shadowheart, Astarion, Karlach, Gale, Wyll, and Lae'zel look like unlicensed knockoffs when they are, in fact, officially licensed by Wizards of the Coast. And, it costs $50 for the set! Anyone who has played the game, or at least seen its cover art numerous times, knows what these characters should look like. They don't look like 3D-printed discards predestined for the garbage bin, with little to no effort made to look authentic, unless perhaps you're squinting from 10 feet away. In response to buyers posting pictures of the botched figures on social media and retail sites, and likely from GamesRadar and other sites posting about it last week, WizKids posted an apology to buyers — and to Wizards of the Coast. In it, it details how to get a refund or a replacement to anyone who bought them online or at a local games store. Keep them, replace them, destroy them, pray to them. It's up to you. READ SOURCE

Baldur's Gate 3 - Patch 8 Is Big, Beautiful And Sad

Baldur's Gate 3 Credit: Steam The final patch for Baldur's Gate 3 drops on April 15, but why? It doesn't seem like Larian Studios had any idea this game was going to turn into the smash hit that it became. Baldur's Gate 3 swept the Game of the Year awards across the industry and became the best-selling title in Steam history. The game has more than 655,000 positive reviews to fewer than 8,000 negative ones on Steam, and in the early morning before its final patch, there were nearly 37,000 people online 'in-game.' It sucks to know that Patch 8 will be the last one, but at least it is stacking up to be a humongous update. Here's everything you need to know. There are games that barely give you 48 words in their patch notes. The final patch notes for Baldur's Gate 3 contain 48 pages. This is a sprawling document of balance changes, quality-of-life tweaks, and major new features. According to PC Gamer, the patch weighs in at a staggering 19,000 to 20,000 words—more than most novellas. For fans of the game, it's an exciting update. But it also reads like a farewell letter. There will be no new DLC, no sequel, no slow drip of seasonal expansions. After April 15, the studio is done—officially stepping away from both this game and the Dungeons & Dragons universe altogether. The studio says it's moving on to new, unrelated projects, but for millions of players, the timing stings. For a title this beloved, the idea of cutting off future development feels like the end of a dynasty—one that has had a long run—but still the end of something dope. The CRPG genre, once thought to be a niche market, had a second life thanks to Larian's work. And now that momentum will need to be carried on by another title or this massive patch. What's the highlight of the new patch? A brand-new subclass for each of the game's 12 classes. These additions immediately expand build options and replayability, giving even seasoned players a reason to re-roll. If you loved your Bard, imagine trying out a completely new subclass that redefines how it interacts with the party. Also included is long-awaited cross-platform play, allowing players on PC, Mac, and console to finally join the same party. That feature had been requested for years—and it's finally arriving. Unfortunately, it comes as the door is being slammed shut on any future upgrades. There's also the introduction of photo mode, which lets players capture cinematic moments from their journey across Faerûn. It's a great tool. I love what I like to call video game photography. I have an embarrassingly long list of in-game snapshots, but I only bother when a game is truly beautiful visually. Like many of the patch's features, it feels like something that might have hit harder a year ago when active development was still in motion. Of course, the patch includes the usual bug fixes and performance polish. One of the more oddly specific tweaks involves Shadowheart's hair dye finally sticking. It's a small fix, but it highlights how deeply fans have engaged with every detail in the game—down to hairstyles and character design. This one definitely feels like a parting gift from Swen Vincke, the genius behind the title. Other updates include UI enhancements, enemy behavior adjustments, and tweaks to questline bugs that players have been reporting recently. These aren't just cosmetic—they're the kinds of behind-the-scenes changes that help make an already stellar game feel even smoother. That stellar feeling is going to make you smile and frown when you realize there won't be any more chapters written. I swear, this feels similar to watching the final episode of one of your favorite sitcoms. It's like they finally tie up all these loose ends, but no matter how tightly the story is sealed, there's still this sting because it's all ending. With Larian exiting the scene, the modding community is being handed the keys to Baldur's Gate 3's future. Larian will be releasing modding tools to empower players to build their own campaigns, characters, and systems—but that support is limited to what's already in the game. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder I absolutely love when devs openly give modders tools to build on their game. In reality, it's easier when you're not dealing with a major company that owns the IP, but in any case, this is another silver lining of the end of the official support for the game. Modding communities have become so advanced that they can often do what the original dev could not because of licensing issues or creative disagreements. This approach works well for some communities, and it could be money for Baldur's Gate 3. Love it or hate it, we're about to find out.

Baldur's Gate 3's Shadowheart actor and her real-life partner "are finally playing opposite each other" in this gorgeous fantasy action game set in "shattered" London

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Magic-packed fantasy action-adventure Tides of Annihilation is shaping up to have a very strong voice cast, because not only is Baldur's Gate 3's Shadowheart actor Jennifer English the protagonist, BG3 performance director and English's real-life partner, Aliona Baranova, is involved too. Tides of Annihilation was my favorite reveal from this week's PlayStation State of Play. Set in a "shattered" and "once-vibrant" London (this is meant to be a fantasy game, after all), protagonist Gwendolyn is the last surviving person in the whole city, faced with unraveling the mystery of what's happened to the world, and hopefully saving it. As we saw in the State of Play trailer, she's got plenty of tricks up her sleeve to best foes in fast-paced battles, with over 10 legendary knights – inspired by Arthurian lore – summonable in battle that allow her to pull off various magical attacks. It's giving me Bayonetta vibes in the best way possible, combined with some Shadow of the Colossus. Anyone who's even slightly familiar with Baldur's Gate 3 probably recognized English's voice immediately, but as her partner points out on Twitter, you might not have picked up on the voice of the "blonde badass" Mordred, who Gwendolyn encounters in a library before promptly fighting in a flashy boss battle during the trailer. "Not many recognized me as this blonde badass in the trailer, and that's on range," Baranova writes. "Jen and I are finally playing opposite each other in Tides of Annihilation!" It's too early at this point to know what Gwendolyn and Mordred's relationship is – they certainly don't appear to be besties from what we can see, but who knows, perhaps we could bear witness to a beautiful enemies-to-lovers situation. Even if their characters are destined to be foes to the end, it's still very cool to see the two actors side by side like this – Baranova says the two are "honored" to be part of the game. Unfortunately for anyone eager to see more, Tides of Annihilation hasn't been given a release date at the time of writing, so we could be waiting a while for it yet. However, the good news is that it's not just coming to PS5 – it's also launching on PC and Xbox Series X|S. In the meantime, you can find some fantastic games to play on our list of the best action games.
