Baldur's Gate 3 may have the worst video game merchandise ever made
A set of figurines depicting the main characters from Baldur's Gate 3 has been upsetting and amusing fans in equal measure, as a refund is offered by the manufacturer.
Most people like to own a physical memento of their favourite games, whether it's a T-shirt, key ring, or some kind of action figure or statute. You can get all that and more for most big name video games, although there has perhaps been less for smash hit Baldur's Gate 3 than you might expect.
Board game maker WizKids has attempted to fill that gap in the market with a range of miniatures recreating the game's lead characters, but the end result has, to put things mildly, been something of a disappointment.
The Dungeons & Dragons: Icons Of The Realms – Baldur's Gate 3 is a set of seven figurines that costs £49.99 in the UK. That's relatively cheap for this sort of thing, which is already a red flag, although no one was prepared for just how bad the final product has turned out.
Although the official promotional images all seem quite impressive, the actual toys don't look anything like them. As one fan on Reddit pointed out, the underlying miniatures are perfectly fine but the paint seems to have been applied by someone that's either partially sighted, drunk, or both.
Other fans on Reddit compared it, unfavourably, to the work of Picasso and the infamous 'Potato Jesus' restoration of a 19th century fresco in Spain.
The characters are Astarion, Karlach, Gale, Shadowheart, Wyll, Lae'zel, and Withers; they're all awful but Shadowheart seems to have come off the worst, at least in terms of the photos that have been posted online – but it's very likely the quality varies greatly.
To their credit, WizKids has admitted the set is awful and is offering a full refund. 'Unfortunately, we missed the mark on this goal with the D&D Icons of the Realms: Baldur's Gate 3 Character Boxed Set,' says a statement on their website. More Trending
'We're aware of the recent reports and complaints and are taking them seriously. Our team is currently investigating these issues and taking action to make this right for those whose purchases were negatively affected and to ensure these issues do not recur in future products and reprints.
'Please accept our sincerest apologies for the frustration and disappointment these quality issues caused our customers. We, too, feel the same as the final product did not meet our expectations or that of our Wizards of the Coast partner.'
After a quick google we found the set being sold at Zatu Games for a reduced price of £43.19. There's also what looks to be blind box versions of the same characters plus additional enemies and monsters at Forbidden Planet.
There don't seem to be any specific reports about the quality of those, but for obvious reasons you might want to think twice before giving them a try.

I couldn't figure out why I had a small pink smiley face in my washing machine... but there's a simple answer
A baffled father who discovered a mysterious, tiny pink smiley face lurking in his washing machine has finally uncovered the surprisingly simple truth behind the sudsy find. The Reddit user, strawberrybalsamic, was left dumbfounded this week after spotting a miniature, bright pink smiley face staring up at him from inside the washing machine - its seemingly unexplainable origin leaving him completely puzzled. In search of answers, he turned to Reddit's popular 'What Is This Thing' forum, hoping someone could solve the bizarre discovery. 'Found in my washing machine,' the father captioned the post, which was shared on Wednesday. 'Small, pink face?' he added. 'Doesn't seem to dissolve, has no odor.' Alongside his post, the father shared two photos of the grinning, unexpected laundry intruder - one showing its face head-on, and another flipped upside down to reveal a lighter pink underside. Rather than providing clarity, the mystery only deepened when he shared additional details about the strange discovery just a short time later. 'It is a little powdery but I found it at the end of a washer cycle so I don't think it dissolves,' the father wrote. 'One side has the smiley face or maybe an arrow with two dots?' he added. 'The other side seems broken off.' 'Googling only comes up with ecstasy, which seems unlikely.' The post racked up more than 6,000 impressions, sparking a flood of theories from curious online sleuths. One determined user wrote: 'It looks like the top of a croc charm'. 'It might be a kids mini eraser,' said another. 'My kids get them a lot in gift bags for birthdays or prize rewards at school. That wouldn't break down in the wash, but could become discolored.' Another user chimed in confidently: 'IT'S A MAGNET! I have the same ones!!' 'It would be a plastic "mixer" to put in slime,' suggested a fourth user. 'You give no indication of size, but it looks like a rubber stamp, broken off the handle,' another user theorized. 'Teachers use those to mark papers.' In response, the father shared a third photo of the powdery object, lying flat on his hand and smiling directly at the lens. At last, the secret behind the laundry room enigma was laid bare for good - and one user guessed correctly. The strange smiley face turned out to be the tip of a small toy commonly used by kids - a mini stamper. 'Do you have any kids?' the user who cracked the case asked the father. 'This looks like the rubber part from a cheap stamp, like the one at the end of the marker.' In response, the father wrote: 'I do! We don't have any markers like that, but maybe they picked it up somewhere.' What really sealed the deal was the photo the user shared after the father's reply - a screenshot of a Lakeshore brand set of eight mini stampers, featuring one adorned with the exact same pink smiley face. These stampers are colorful, handheld tools that imprint fun designs like paw prints, hearts, stars - and of course, smiley faces - onto paper. Each one fits comfortably in the palm and is typically made of lightweight plastic, with a foam or rubber stamp at the base - explaining why the pink appeared more discolored on one side. 'That is practically identical, so I think it's solved!' the father replied to the shared photo. Finally, he updated the thread with a triumphant 'Solved!' - officially bringing the bizarre case of the pink smiley face to a satisfying close. Designed for arts and crafts, the specific pink mini stamper comes in a set of eight, featuring cheerful simple images perfect for decorating cards, notebooks or school projects. As two users correctly suggested, the stampers are also commonly used by teachers when grading children's work, adding a cheerful, colorful image as a token of encouragement. Somehow, the pink smiley face stamper found its way into the washing machine - catching an unsuspecting father totally off guard - before revealing itself as nothing other than a jolly, unexpected surprise.

'Addictive' Aussie Mars chocolate launches in UK supermarket
From Kylie Minogue to Bluey, the UK loves an Australian export — but some are more well-received than others. The latest Aussie favourite to hit British shores is Mars Pods, which launched on Iceland shelves last week. Priced at £3.50 per 160g bag, these shell-shaped snacks (not to be confused with the brand's Dolce Gusto hot chocolate pods) feature crunchy wafer topped with caramel and smooth milk chocolate. Despite being rarely spotted over here, they've long remained a staple Down Under, where they were invented by the confectioner back in 2008. On the K-Mart website, Mars Pods have an overall rating of five stars, with shopper Melanie calling them 'yummy'. Similarly, Reddit users describe the treats as 'orgasmic', claiming: 'They are impossible to stop eating.' Metro senior entertainment report Pierra Willix agrees, saying 'it's been a sad three years without them' since she moved to the UK from Perth. 'Pods might not sound particularly appealing, but they are a go-to movie night snack across Australian households,' she adds. 'The crunch of the wafter biscuit mixed with the sweet chocolate filling is surprisingly addictive — it's incredibly easy to devour an entire bag yourself.' However, the reaction from Brits hasn't been as overwhelmingly positive. Under a Facebook post about the launch on the Food Finds UK group, Sammi Jane said they looked 'banging', but Christopher Granton – who'd managed to get hold of them in B&M – commented: 'They were absolutely awful to be honest!' Over on TikTok, @tommyl6770 balked at the price tag, describing them as a 'rip off'. To decide for yourself, head down to your local Iceland. If you're heading to the supermarket solely to get your Mars Pods fix though, it may be worth calling ahead, as stock varies from store to store. Last year, another iconic Australian chocolate bar was released here in the UK, sending fans into a frenzy. More Trending Tim Tams – beloved by Margot Robbie – combine crunchy biscuit, a velvety cream filling and smooth chocolatey coating. And from the moment they became available on the shelves of Waitrose, they proved an instant hit with customers. 'I absolutely should not eat a whole sleeve of TimTam cookies for dinner, no matter how good they taste with my cold brew,' @DCLovesDestiel wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Horror movie buffs praise 'shocking' film that's leaving some fainting in cinema
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A new horror movie has left viewers 'screaming out loud in cinemas'. In 2022 twins Danny and Michael Philippou made their feature film debut with the movie Talk to Me, which starred Sophie Wilde and followed a group of teenagers discovering they can contact spirits using a mysterious severed and embalmed hand. After being released in Australia, it was eventually rolled out in the United States by A24 and became a massive success. Critics called it 'original', 'compelling' and 'brutal', with the film grossing grossed $92million (£67million) worldwide against a production budget of $4.5million (£3.3million), becoming A24's highest-grossing horror film ever. Before releasing this movie, the brothers were best known online as RackaRacka – sharing horror comedy videos on YouTube. They currently have 6.88 million followers. Two years on from their feature filmed hitting screens around the world, they have returned with Bring Her Back, which will likely leave viewers just as unsettled. Ahead of its release, the synopsis of Bring Her Back teased the plot, which is about 'grief and resurrection'. 'A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother,' it reads. Set in the outer suburbs of the sleepy city of Adelaide, the film begins with teenager Andy (Billy Barratt) and his legally blind sister Piper (Sora Wong) facing the sudden death of their father. With Andy just a few months away from being able to legally care for his sister, they are temporarily placed in a foster home with Laura (Sally Hawkins), who is already caring for Oliver (Jonah Wren Phillips), who is mute after also losing his family in tragic circumstances. It quickly emerges she's completely unhinged and obsessed with the occult, with the siblings then facing a string of shocking events. Running at 1 hour, 39 minutes, Bring Her Back also stars Sally-Anne Upton, Stephen Phillips, Mischa Heywood, Liam Damons and Olga Miller. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video During an interview this week on The Project about their 'heart-pounding and terrifying' film, the brothers revealed the extreme reactions some people were already having when watching. After co-host Sarah Harris jokingly asked the pair 'what is wrong with them' after creating a movie with so many jump scares, they spilled on how scared some people had been. 'We've had three faintings at the screenings,' Danny admitted. On Reddit one viewer even declared: 'This movie was so shocking I almost threw up in the car park.' In a recent interview with Variety, the Philippou's (who self-identify as 'bogans') reflected on the lack of belief in them just a few years ago. 'RackaRacka was a talking point in meetings, but not a good one,' Danny admitted. 'They just didn't think we could do a movie. To be fair, we weren't making deep stuff on YouTube.' However, after the success of Talk to Me, they managed to convince Sally to sign up to their follow-up, the actress' first time starring in a horror. She had also even watched their YouTube videos too. 'She enjoyed them! People said our energies weren't going to match, but we got along so well,' Danny shared. He also revealed that they took Sally out during filming to prank some neighbours in preparation for a scene. Early reviews have been coming in for the movie, which hits screens later this week. 'Bring Her Back captures the darkness and fear of losing someone, all while making one of the year's best horror films. It's that mixture, like with Talk to Me, that makes Danny and Michael Philippou two of the most exciting filmmakers in the genre,' Collider wrote in its review. 'The Philippous work in a mode that's impressionistic in an accomplished enough way to justify itself. They don't care about tying up every bloody loose end. They're after a feeling, a lavish sensation of malevolent shock,' Variety shared. 'Bring Her Back is as unutterably sad as it is disturbingly frightening… Michael and Danny Philippou may just be the premiere horror auteurs in Australia after only two films,' The Curb added. Since being released a few days ago, fans have rushed to share their thoughts on the movie, which currently holds an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. 'I went into this movie not having a clue what it was going to be about, and it was absolutely shocking and disturbing in all the best ways. Being an avid horror fan, it is extremely hard to make me look away from the screen …but there were several moments I had to in this movie. 'Despite the extremely gory scenes it had, the storyline and acting itself was brilliant. It wove an absolutely heartbreaking trauma-filled narrative into a movie you won't soon be able to forget, if ever. 'Destined to rank in some of the most legendary disturbing horror film top 10 lists,' user NMP posted on the review site. More Trending 'A horror film that breaks your heart. Brilliant,' Maria shared. 'This was a really good horror movie. An unsettling, slow burn, that kept me captivated and on the edge of my seat. I also think it had a great ending,' Billy added. Bring Her Back is now in cinemas. A version of this article was originally published on May 27, 2025. Got a story?
