‘Amitabh Bachchan heard my insult and quietly walked away; I died a thousand deaths': Rohini Hattangadi recalls first-ever interaction

Veteran actor Rohini Hattangadi, who was typecast as elderly women for most of her career, reflected on working with Amitabh Bachchan. She played the mother of Bachchan's characters in films such as Agneepath and Shahenshah; the latter was shot during troubling times for the superstar, after his unsuccessful stint in politics. In an interview, she recalled her first-ever interaction with the actor on set, and said that she inadvertently insulted him. Rohini said that she disliked the work he'd done after surviving a near-death accident on the film Coolie, and mistakenly let him know. In an appearance on the Friday Talkies YouTube channel, she was asked about her equation with the legendary star, who happens to be older than her in real life. She said that she agreed to do Shahenshah, and was very nervous about meeting Amitabh finally. She arrived on set and waited anxiously with her co-star Supriya Pathak. Supriya had already worked with Amitabh for a few days, and had developed a rapport with him. While the two of them were waiting to be called on set for a shot, Amitabh walked into the room wearing an odd costume, and remarked to Supriya, 'Look how they've dressed me.' I immediately bit my tongue. He didn't say anything, and walked away quietly. I looked at Supriya in shock. What had I done. I spent the next few minutes in terror. I kept running scenarios in my mind; how I'd respond if Mr Bachchan said something to me. I had different replies planned. I died a thousand deaths, waiting to come face to face with him.' But, to her surprise, Amitabh didn't mention the awkward interaction at all, and continued working as if nothing had happened. 'After that, it was smooth sailing for me. That's what makes him a great star,' Rohini said. She admitted that she found his performance in the film Laawaris to be unworthy of his talent, and said that she felt the same about his post-accident films such as Inquilaab and Sharaabi. 'But he honoured his word to producers and directors, and fulfilled his commitment to them,' she said. Many of Amitabh's films were left in the lurch as he recovered from the injury he sustained on Coolie, and he made it a point to complete them when he got better.

Aftab Shivdasani Once Spoke About Facing Casting Couch: 'He Used To Call Me Late At Night…'

Aftab Shivdasani once revealed that he faced casting couch during early days in his career. Ram Gopal Varma gave him his big break in Mast with Urmila Matondkar. Actor Aftab Shivdasani started his acting career as a child artist, having starred in films such as Mr India, Shahenshah, and ChaalBaaz. He then took a break and returned to the film industry, only to restart his career with modelling and ad gigs. It was during that phase in life when the actor admitted to facing the casting couch. Aftab Shivdasani and Vivek Oberoi, together, appeared as guests on Riteish Deshmukh and Sajid Khan's game show, Yaaron Ki Baraat. During a segment on the show, Aftab shared his ordeal when a renowned personality from the entertainment industry would call him late at nights and ask him to visit him at a hotel. Upon realising the intent, the Kasoor actor stopped entertaining him. Aftab said on the show, 'When I was not an actor and was doing music videos and modelling assignments, I visited a person who promised me a film. He used to call me late night, kept me hanging. Later on, I realised that it's a hoax and stopped picking his calls. And the guy was a very well known personality and I can't name him here. I did meet him once or twice but later I stopped when his intentions became clear." For the unversed, casting couch refers to the exploitative practice where people in positions of power in the entertainment industry demand sexual favours from aspiring actors in exchange for roles or career opportunities. It's widely condemned as unethical and abusive. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma gave Aftab Shivdasani his first big break in Mast, co-starring Urmila Matondkar in 1999. In a conversation with ETimes, Aftab clarified that his background as a child actor had no connection to him landing the lead role in Mast. While still in school, he often auditioned for commercials simply because he enjoyed being in front of the camera. It was during one such stint, a cola advertisement, that he caught the attention of RGV, who later cast him in Mast. Meanwhile, on the work front, Aftab Shivdasani has been a part of superhit films such as Kasoor, Awara Paagal Deewana, Hungama, Footpath, 1920: The Evil Returns, Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3, and several others. Next, he has an array of films in the pipeline. He is a part of Welcome To The Jungle in Akshay Kumar's multi-starrer, Masti 4 with Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi and Kasoor 2 with Urvashi Rautela. Missing boy returns home on foot after escaping torture in jeans factory

Kolkata: A 14-year-old boy, who was missing for 42 days after being tortured in a jeans manufacturing unit at Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas over an alleged theft of a mobile, returned home at Chogoria village in Islampur of North Dinajpur on Wednesday. The boy, Sheikh Samsad, walked for two days from Kishanganj station in Bihar, according to a family member. Police said his health condition was fine. On June 3, a video went viral on social media showing the boy being hanged upside down, with his hands and feet tied, and administered electric shocks in the factory. Two days later, the factory owner, Shahenshah, was arrested in Mumbai. However, there was no trace of the boy. His family members lodged a police complaint and alleged that he was tortured for asking for his wage before Eid. After the boy's return, cops took him to the police station for questioning. He had worked in the factory for one and a half months. Upon reaching home, Samsad told his family members that he had escaped through the factory's bathroom window. After hiding in the Maheshtala area for a few days, he reached Akra station, from where he took a train to Sealdah. "He spent a few days in Sealdah. From there, he took a train to Kishanganj on Monday night. From there, he walked for two days and reached Islampur Bypass at 4pm on Wednesday. A toto driver, Momit Sheikh, who recognised him from the video, took him home. He is fine at present," said Samsad's brother Sheikh Amirul.
