Watch: Sheikh Hamdan takes twins through magical journey in warm birthday wish
To mark a special occasion, Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan took to Instagram to share a heartwarming greeting for the birthday of his twins Rashid and Shaikha. In a moving video sequence shared on his Instagram story, Sheikh Hamdan is seen playing chess with Rashid. The two sit in deep concentration, a father-son moment of stillness and connection. The video then shifts to the Dubai Crown Prince holding Shaikha's hand as he guides her through a garden transformed into a fairytale-like arch, with golden sunlight spilling through the flowers and the iconic Burj Khalifa. Another clip shows a breathtaking scene: Sheikh Hamdan and Rashid dressed in a matching blue hoodie, as they stare out at the ocean while sitting on the edge of a rocky cliff. Together, they watch in awe as a huge whale jumps out of the waters, its gigantic form dwarfing everything around it — a magical moment witnessed by father and son. The tone softens in the next scene. Wearing a pink hoodie, Sheikh Hamdan walks down the aisle lined with plush toys, gently pushing a trolley. Inside it sits two soft heart-shaped pillows — one blue, one pink — symbolising his twins. Watch the video below: The final clip is a vision of wonder: a rose garden overflowing with pink blossoms, crowned by a heart-shaped arch. The twins, tiny backpacks strapped on, walk hand in hand toward the glowing Burj Khalifa, where sunlight glimmers in welcome. As the scene fades, Sheikh Hamdan's message appears on the screen, simple and full of love: 'Happy birthday Rashid and Shaikha.' All throughout this heartwarming birthday wish, the children's faces remain unseen — a gentle reminder of the Crown Prince's quiet commitment to preserving their privacy, even while celebrating their lives with the world. In another Instagram story, Sheikh Hamdan shared a brief but meaningful clip: two chocolate bars from the Dubai-based chocolate brand FIX, each carefully wrapped and labeled with the names 'Rashid' and 'Shaikha.' A sweet and personal touch, the gesture also nods to his exclusive collaboration with the brand, first announced in September of last year.

Muscat International book Fair comes to a close
The 29th Muscat International Book Fair, held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) from April 24, concluded on a high note with a heavy number of visitors. It moved away from last year's global focus on artificial intelligence to celebrate cultural diversity as a pathway to unity. The Book Fair, themed 'Cultural Diversity Enriches Our Civilisation', saw a significant turnout of nearly 300,000 visitors, including citizens and expatriates, recorded in the first 5 days of the fair, showing its great acceptability over the past few years. The fair hosted a number of publishing houses from the region, with 674 of them from 35 countries displaying 681,041 titles, including 467,413 Arabic books, 213,610 foreign books, and 27,464 Omani works over the past 10 days. It also featured around 52,205 new publications from 2024-2025, according to Shaikha al Mahruqi, Acting Director-General of International Media at the Ministry of Information. Muscat International book Fair comes to a close Muscat International book Fair comes to a close 'Through this Book Fair, we are conveying a vital message: embrace our differences and accept each other as we are. Last year, the topic of the Book Fair was AI, but this year, Oman is adopting a more practical approach and seeking to promote peace and unity through literature and cultural exchange,' Shaikha said. Books on literature, history and science captivated the attention of visitors and publishers at the Book Fair, which also featured 211 cultural programmes and 155 activities specifically tailored for children. Speaking to the Observer, Edmond Claude, a European visitor to the Fair, said that the two days he spent at the Fair were so useful that he was able to grab some English as well as Arabic titles before going home. 'I was able to buy some of the most sought-after titles from the fair in both English and Arabic. I have attended some of the best book fairs in the world, including the Sydney Book Fair and Sharjah Book Fair, and I find all three of them to be of little difference,' said Claude. The children's section for educational and entertaining activities, which help enhance young visitors' intellectual abilities, was something to be highlighted and the fair was wonderful and crowded.' A cross-section of the visitors opined that the fair was 'highly diverse,' citing the presence of visitors from various nationalities. 'My visit was delightful, and I'll definitely come again,' Anita Rajan, a homemaker from Muscat, said.

Abu Dhabi Art announces dates and visual campaign artist for this year's fair
Abu Dhabi Art will return to Manarat Al Saadiyat in November for its 17th year The annual fair, which is organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, will take place between November 19 and 23. The event is a staple in the emirate's cultural calendar. Last year, more than 100 galleries from around the world took part. DCT – Abu Dhabi has also named the visual campaign artist for this year's Abu Dhabi Art. Shaikha Al Mazrou will define the fair's visual identity and her work will inform its marketing campaign. The Emirati artist is a notable figure in the country's contemporary art scene. Her sculptural works are often large and use painted metal to explore form, space and abstraction. Her 2022 work Red Stack, for example, was displayed in Regent's Park as part of London's contemporary art fair Frieze. Eight large cushions, cast in metal, were piled several metres into the sky. Between the pillowy forms of the cushions and the rigidity of the cast metal, the structure appears hard yet soft at the same time. 'Shaikha participated in our 2017 edition of Abu Dhabi Art as a Beyond Emerging Artist and we are thrilled to see the progression in her work at this stage in her career,' Dyala Nusseibeh, director Abu Dhabi Art, said. 'Shaikha has become one of the most successful artists of her generation in the UAE. The series we have chosen to work with for the visual campaign and visual feel of the fair offers an exploration of materiality and a repurposing of discarded matter from fabrication sites in the UAE.' Al Mazrou's 2023 work Beyond All Measures will be among the highlights at the fair. The artwork, using oxidised brass, depicts the horizon while exploring its symbolism as a threshold and point of transformation. 'Like the material itself, which is inherently unstable, its colours forged by heat and oxygen, Beyond All Measures metaphorically invites us to explore new ways of perceiving the world around us and to question our position in it,' Nusseibeh said. Al Mazrou, who is represented by Lawrie Shabibi Gallery in Dubai, has works in several major collections around the world, including the RMZ Foundation, Art Jameel and The Farjam Foundation. In 2022, she won the prestigious Paulo Cunha e Silva Art Prize and was shortlisted for the Louvre Abu Dhabi Richard Mille Art Prize. Al Mazrou is also an assistant arts professor of visual arts at NYU Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi Art is also accepting gallery applications for its 2025 fair. The deadline to apply is April 30.
