Netflix has racked up 15 No. 1 movies in 2025 so far — here's the 3 worth watching
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Being ranked as the No. 1 movie on Netflix might not be as prestigious as winning Best Picture at the Oscars, but it's still a sign that a film has managed to draw the attention (and viewing hours) of millions of subscribers to the world's biggest streaming service. To date in 2025, 15 movies have managed to ascend to the top of the Netflix top 10 list (per Netflix's tracking data). While it's perhaps not a vintage collection, with several skippable efforts like 'Kinda Pregnant' and 'iHostage' wearing the crown for a period, there has been a handful of flicks worthy of the top spot. Below, I'm picking out the trio I think are most deserving of a place in your Netflix watchlist. If you missed any of these movies when they were ranked No. 1 on the platform, now is the time to circle back and give them a stream. I'm starting my picks with 'To Catch a Killer,' a 2023 thriller that enjoyed a surprise renaissance on Netflix this year. While it follows a cookie-cutter detective thriller blueprint, the mystery at its core is engaging enough, and the violent opening sequence, which sees a sniper begin shooting innocent targets from a rooftop, is pretty startling. The movie stars Shailene Woodley as a Baltimore beat cop named Eleanor. Grappling with a troubled past, Eleanor has an uncanny knack for spotting hidden clues others often miss, but her personal demons threaten to bubble to the surface and could put the hunt for the bloodthirsty killer in jeopardy. Ben Mendelsohn plays the head of the FBI task force in charge of the manhunt, and enjoys some strong (and heated) exchanges with Woodley. While the narrative conventions are pretty predictable, 'To Catch a Killer' is a well-produced take on a formula that never goes out of fashion. Watch on Netflix now I'm bracing myself for the angry comments to this selection already. I wrote about how much I enjoyed Gareth Evans' 'Havoc" last month, and let's just say the reader response was … fierce. While this grimdark action-thriller has endured a pretty torrid reception from many viewers (It holds a poor 37% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes), its frantic and extremely brutal fight scenes really worked for me. Evans, director of the 'The Raid' movies, is one of the best in the business when it comes to cinematic carnage, and I loved his latest slice of ultra-action. I also enjoyed seeing Tom Hardy in a very watchable movie again, as I've been largely unimpressed with his recent roles. However, I can't deny that his character of Walker, a bruised and hardboiled detective, doesn't exactly stand out as all that memorable. If you're looking for narrative depth, you won't find it in 'Havoc.' The movie's plot is overstuffed with far too many criminal players involved and it's all told in a needlessly convoluted way. But if you want to see stunning action choreography and plenty of intense shoot-outs that will get your adrenaline pumping, 'Havoc' is a Netflix original movie that few can measure up to. Watch on Netflix now Switching gear quite dramatically from nightclub brawls to the joys of a home-cooked meal, 'Nonnas' is a Netflix movie that is simply nice. There's no better word for it. Yes, 'nice' is not perhaps the most gushing of compliments, but 'Nonnas' is a simple movie, and it achieves its modest objective without any unnecessary fuss. It's the perfect lazy Sunday watch, and will have you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. It may have unambitious aims, but it succeeds all the same. The comedy-drama centers on Joe Scaravella (Vince Vaughn), a Brooklyn native who decides to open a restaurant on Staten Island. So far, so normal. The culinary twist is that his eatery is staffed by grandmothers (or nonnas), cooking recipes passed down across generations. Inspired by a heartwarming true story, 'Nonnas' is a celebration of family bonds and the people and heritage that make us who we are. Plus, with Susan Sarandon, Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, Linda Cardellini and Joe Manganiello in supporting roles, it packs an extremely likeable cast of characters. Watch on Netflix now "Carry-On" "Despicable Me 2" "Back in Action" "Kinda Pregnant" "Aftermath" "To Catch a Killer" "Venom: The Last Dance" "Despicable Me 4" "The Electric State" "Den of Thieves 2 Pantera" "The Life List" "iHostage" "Havoc" "Exterritorial" "Nonnas" 47 best Netflix movies to stream today The best streaming services to subscribe to right now 3 Netflix movies you need to stream before they leave this month

Danica Patrick: ‘Emotionally abusive' Aaron Rodgers relationship ‘wore me down to nothing'
Danica Patrick said the most painful thing she's ever experienced was her breakup with Aaron Rodgers in 2020. During an appearance on 'The Sage Steele Show,' the former NASCAR driver said their 'emotionally abusive' relationship 'wore me down to nothing.' 'The breakup with Aaron in 2020, because it was sudden,' Patrick said when asked about her most painful experience. 'It felt like it was my life. So when you live with somebody, it's your whole life… And because the nature of the relationship was emotionally abusive, so that wore me down to nothing. 'Someone that you know, people could never imagine that I would lack any confidence, or belief in the simple things about who I am. Everything was torn to bits. He leaves a trail of blood. I don't think I'm saying too much earth-shattering stuff after we — there's been enough out there. 'But it gave me the greatest gift, which is myself. It gave me the greatest gift of how much I needed to show up for myself and take care of myself.' Rodgers and Patrick called it quits in July 2020 after dating for two years. Patrick, who said she has no shame or regret, explained that she was lonely during their relationship because 'I was furthest from myself.' The former Jets quarterback, who said he's focusing on his personal life as he contemplates his playing future, went on to date actress Shailene Woodley, whom he met sometime during the COVID-19 pandemic. They announced their engagement in February 2021, with the two reportedly calling it quits in April 2022. Rodgers, who revealed last December that he is in a relationship with a woman named Brittani, was recently spotted wearing what appeared to be a wedding band on his left ring finger. Patrick appeared to reveal her boyfriend in a photo of the pair kissing at the Burning Man festival in September. Patrick and Carter Comstock dated for nearly a year before splitting in March 2022. Patrick and NASCAR driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. dated from 2012 to 2017.

Shailene Woodley's boyfriend Lucas Bravo sparks fan frenzy over unrecognizable new look
Lucas Bravo fans were sent into a frenzy after the Emily In Paris star debuted his new look while attending an event last week in Los Angeles. The French actor, 37 - who is currently dating fellow actress Shailene Woodley - uploaded snaps to his Instagram page as he stopped by the Airbnb 2025 Summer Release. He sported a thick beard as well as longer locks during the festivities - which is in stark contrast to his character chef Gabriel's clean shaven appearance in the hit Netflix series. Bravo additionally wore a pair of loose-fitting, black trousers and a black and white-colored tweed jacket for a finishing touch. Social media users quickly jumped to the comment section of his latest post as they offered differing opinions on the look. One penned, 'What happened to our handsome chef!!!!' while another wrote, 'What have you done to lucas?!' 'Thor is that you?' a fan questioned, and one typed out, 'Didn't even recognize you.' Another shared, 'What's wrong with my chef,' and a social media user also commented, 'Who did this to him??????' Others wondered if his new look could be for the upcoming fifth season of Emily In Paris - while some also questioned if he would return at all. An Instagram follower penned, 'is this your new look for gabriel this new season?' and one added, 'They're already filming the new season Emily In Paris, won't you be in it?' Fans also came to the actor's defense and one commented, 'Don't listen to anyone, be yourself, and by the way, I think you're at your best now.' 'For God's sake just leave him alone he can do whatever he likes he is old enough to decide what he want to do in and with his life,' another wrote. 'Please don't change just do whatever you feel right and make you happy you are definitely in the right place at the moment,' they concluded. Another shared, 'Unpopular opinion I hope... but I think Lucas looks hot,' followed by a red heart emoji. Fans also came to the actor's defense and one commented, 'Don't listen to anyone, be yourself, and by the way, I think you're at your best now' Bravo is known for his role as a chef named Gabriel and Emily's (Lily Collins) love interest throughout the Emily In Paris series. The character is usually seen with shorter trimmed hair and a clean shaven face in the episodes. Late last year, the actor opened up about playing Gabriel and admitted that the role has become 'not fun.' He told IndieWire, 'The 'sexy chef' was very much part of me in Season 1 and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take. 'I've never been so far away from him. In Season 1, there was a lot of me in him,' Lucas said, before adding that his character has 'slowly turned into guacamole.' He also explained, 'I tried for seasons to bring nuances but we don't have much liberty on set. We cannot change a word or an emotion. They know what they want and we just have to comply.' The star hinted that he may not return for season five due to his contract ending after the fourth season. Of the show, Bravo expressed that, 'It's a comedy, everybody is having fun around me, everybody is jumping around, and I'm just slowly sinking into God knows what.' His latest altered appearance also comes amid his new romance with actress Shailene Woodley. The couple were first linked a few months earlier in March as they cozied up together on a stroll through the streets of Paris. Not long after the pair were spotted together, fans were quick to point out that Bravo resembled her ex Aaron Rodgers. Late last month in April, Lucas and Shailene officially went Instagram official as the actor shared snaps following a romantic desert trip. Woodley and Bravo had a blast as they visited Slab City in California in the photos before also stopping by the Stagecoach Music Festival. In one image, the pair could be seen sitting on the ground at the bustling event as the actress took a quick selfie. The two stars held small smiles on their faces while they both sported black cowboy hats and soaked up the warm sunshine. Another picture was taken to show a close up as Shailene and Lucas sweetly held hands while exploring the festival grounds. They also embraced as they had the chance to meet Sophie Hawley-Weld from the musical duo SOFI TUKKER who joined in on the lighthearted picture. The Divergent actress made another appearance in the French actor's latest carousel of snaps as they stopped by Salvation Mountain. In the caption, the actor simply typed out to his fans and followers: 'Howdy Slab City,' followed by a cactus emoji. The Emily In Paris star broke his silence on the budding relationship last month during an interview with People. 'Yeah, I'm really happy,' Lucas stated while attending the Broadway opening of Good Night, And Good Luck starring George Clooney. It comes three years after Woodley's split from NFL player. The former couple were first linked in 2020 and she confirmed their engagement back in 2021. But the following year, they called it quits. Last year in September, Shailene opened up about her thoughts towards love and what she is looking for in the future. She told Bustle at the time, 'I don't think I ever really had expectations of life. I don't have a 'that should have happened by now' kind of thing. 'I wake up every day and I say out loud, 'I'm so excited for the magic and miracles that are going to happen today.'' Later in December 2024, the actress briefly commented on her past relationship with Rodgers. 'I haven't shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry' she said to Outside Magazine. 'It was not right. But it was beautiful.' Shailene reflected on having 'a really awful, traumatic thing happen in early 2022' - although she did not name Rodgers during the interview. 'I felt like I lost my soul, my self, my happiness, my joy. I really understood depression and anxiety and, like, complete soul detachment.' The actress added that she had stayed in a 'toxic situation' due to having empathy for 'someone else.' Bravo also previously dated another actor - but their identity is not known. During a past interview with Elle, Lucas expressed: 'You know, we talk about beauty, but I don't have a type or anything. 'I like that 'instant connection.' Sometimes, you just run into someone, you look at this person in the eyes, and in an instant, in a second, so much is said.' He added, 'There's an entire conversation going through each other's eyes in an instant, and you feel like you've known the person, or the person knows you - it's the connection I'm looking for. 'Just feeling safe and feeling like there's an old soul in front of me, and we've always known each other [like] in a past life or something… it's something you cannot see, and that's mostly what I'm looking for.'

Shailene Woodley to Star in New York-Set Film ‘A Beautiful Journey' From Anonymous Federation, Gabman (EXCLUSIVE)
Shailene Woodley ('Big Little Lies') is set to headline 'A Beautiful Journey,' an English-language comedy-drama feature from French writer-director Nathalie Marchak ('Out of Instinct'). 'A Beautiful Journey' is being produced by Anonymous Federation, a joint venture between Anonymous Content and Federation Studios, and Gabman, the company founded by Valerie Garcia, who previously co-headed one of France's leading distribution shingles, Mars Films. Principal photography will begin in the fall. Woodley will play Mary, an ex-swimming champion who now works as a mermaid at the New York Aquarium, struggling to raise her 7-year-old son, Lulu, on her own. When they get evicted, to protect him, she pretends they are about to embark on a beautiful journey. But in doing so, she's beginning to lose — and eventually find — herself. Cimino described the project as a ''Life is Beautiful' meets 'Captain Fantastic.'' Garcia pointed out the movie will have an uplifting dimension, revolving on the strong bond between a mother and her son. Marchak penned the script for 'A Beautiful Journey' with the support of a writing scholarship from Sundance. The script was included on the Inaugural Cannes Screenplay List, an initiative highlighting outstanding feature scripts by women and non-binary storytellers. 'Working with Shailene Woodley is a dream,' said Marchak, whose first feature film, 'Out of Instinct,' was released theatrically in 2017. 'She is a truly cinematic force — her fearless honesty and radiant depth will light up the screen as she leads us through Mary's tender, turbulent, and ultimately transformative journey.' Cimino and Garcia said, 'We are thrilled to embark on this exciting film with our visionary director, Nathalie Marchak. And today, we are tremendously proud to have the incredibly talented Shailene Woodley embody the lead role of Mary. Her immense talent will illuminate our film and will bring Nathalie's vision to life. Moreover, her dedication and artistry will elevate our story and resonate deeply with our audience.' Cimino said 'the script touched Woodley intimately and she loved it.' The pair also noted that the actor had already delivered a breakthrough performance as a young mother in 'Big Little Lies' which earned her an Emmy nomination. 'We didn't want to talk to her about her role in 'Big Little Lies,' but it's her manager who said: 'Shailene has already played the role of a mother and she's fan of the script, she wants to meet you, she wants to meet Nathalie!' The producer said she and Garcia are currently at Cannes and working on raising the financing for the movie and are aiming to start filming in the fall. The movie will shoot mainly in Europe, addition to a few days in New York for the outdoors scenes, Garcia said. 'A Beautiful Journey' will mark Woodley's first time working on a French project. Woodley had her first major role in 2008 with 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager' and later starred in 'The Descendants,' the 'Divergent' franchise and 'The Fault in Our Stars.' The actress is also a noted environmentalist and political activist who made headlines in 2016 for her arrest while protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline. On getting Woodley on board for the movie, Cimino said her long-standing relationships with managers and agents have helped, but above all, it comes down to the 'very good script.' 'Once a good script starts circulating in an agency or management company, actors want good scripts. They want good stories, they want roles they can defend,' she said. Marchak, who holds an LL.M from Harvard Law School and a filmmaking certificate from New York University, previously penned and directed the TV series 'Les Siffleurs' and serves as VP of the French Guild of Authors, Directors and Producers (ARP). Additional key cast and the international sales agent will be announced in the coming days. Woodley is represented by CAA and Range Media Partners.
