SIMSC launches inaugural AUS Land Rowing Championship
Promoting fitness and team spirit through rowing The championship was designed to introduce university students to rowing as a sport that enhances physical fitness and teamwork. The event included both individual and team-based competitions, alongside workshops focusing on rowing techniques and the sport's health benefits. The goal was to encourage students to incorporate athletic challenges into their everyday lives. Strategic initiative to encourage youth participation in sports Shaima Bin Taliah, board member of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, emphasized that this initiative is part of a larger strategy to promote innovative sports and physical activity among youth. She stated, 'We are pleased to launch the first edition of the University Rowing Championship in partnership with the American University of Sharjah. This championship aims to motivate students to adopt a healthy lifestyle and promote teamwork through a fun and challenging sport like rowing.' A platform for building character and discipline Ahmed Issa Al Hosani, Director General of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, expressed gratitude to the American University of Sharjah for its cooperation and to the participating students for their enthusiasm. He noted that the championship was more than just a sporting event—it was an opportunity to instill values of discipline, resilience, and personal development through sports. AUS hosts group Iftar for SSEF orphans
This comes in commitment to social responsibility and to promote the spirit of community solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan. A Gathering of Compassion and Community Spirit The event featured a unique Ramadan atmosphere, as members of the Foundation met with university representatives and a number of volunteers in an environment that reflected the values of giving and compassion that characterise the holy month. During the iftar, the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation emphasised the importance of such events in supporting the families and engaging them in a social atmosphere that instills in them a sense of belonging and love. Strengthening Social Partnerships Nawal Al Hamdi, Director of the Social Welfare Department, stated: 'The American University of Sharjah's participation in the 'Fitrhum' project reflects the depth of the community partnership between the Foundation and the University. Such initiatives leave a positive impact on the souls of orphans and their families, and enhance their sense of support and care from the community. It embodies the values of giving and community solidarity during the holy month. She continued: 'We at the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation believe that supporting our members is not limited to material aspects, but extends to include providing a warm social environment that enhances their sense of belonging and love. The group iftar initiative is part of the 'Fitrhom' project. It reflects the community's commitment to social responsibility, a step that the Foundation appreciates due to its significant positive impact on the souls of our children and their families, which positively reflects on their psychological and social stability. A Campaign Rooted in Giving The "Ramadan Zakat" campaign is one of the annual initiatives launched by the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation, with the aim of providing support to fatherless children and their families during the holy month, through the "Iftarhum" project. Group Iftar tables are organised in various locations with the participation of volunteers from the local community, to promote a spirit of communication and compassion .
