Wienerschnitzel to open locations inside of Walmart: Here's where

Want to eat a hot dog while shopping at Walmart? It might be a possibility at a store near you soon. California-based hot dog franchise Wienerschnitzel announced last week that it is set to open locations in Walmart locations later this year. Similarly to how Snack Bar, McDonald's, Taco Bell and Subway have operated inside Walmart throughout the years, the hot dog chain is set to make a splash in locations across the country. "Wienerschnitzel has spent decades building a strong reputation, especially on the West Coast, and this expansion into Walmart stores signifies a new era of growth for the brand," Shak Turner, director of franchise expansion for Wienerschnitzel, said in a press release from the company. Locations inside Walmart will offer the full Wienerschnitzel menu, the company said. The expansion into Walmart comes as the company seeks to expand into "non-traditional venues," like airports, military bases, theme parks, food courts and convenience stores. "These non-traditional formats allow us to modernize our footprint, bring our iconic flavors to new audiences, and reinforce the brand's relevance in today's evolving retail and dining landscape," the release said. According to the company, Wienerschnitzel will open in Walmart locations in the following cities by fall 2025: Puyallup, Washington Alamogordo, New Mexico Tempe, Arizona Reno, Nevada Colorado Springs, Colorado Bakersfield, California Fernando Cervantes Jr. is a trending news reporter for USA TODAY. Iconic hot dog chain to open restaurants in select Walmart stores

(NEXSTAR) — It hasn't been uncommon for restaurants like Snack Bar, McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Subway to operate inside Walmart, tantalizing you as you entered the stores with the smell of their French fries and warm bread. But these days, Walmart is turning to new, smaller chains to move into open spaces at the front of their stores. That includes a newly announced partnership with the iconic hot dog franchise Wienerschnitzel. The California-based company announced last week that it will soon open restaurants in six Walmart locations later this year. Those stores are in Bakersfield; Tempe, Arizona; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Alamogordo, New Mexico; Reno, Nevada; and Puyallup, Washington. 'Wienerschnitzel has spent decades building a strong reputation, especially on the West Coast, and this expansion into Walmart stores signifies a new era of growth for the brand,' Shak Turner, director of franchise expansion for Wienerschnitzel, said in a press release. Walmart-based Wienerschnitzel locations will offer the brand's full menu (minus its namesake, of course). Why a popular fast food chain doesn't serve the item it's named for Wienerschnitzel is looking to expand into other 'non-traditional venues' as well, with the company 'actively pursuing' sites like airports, military bases, theme parks, food courts, and convenience stores. 'These non-traditional formats allow us to modernize our footprint, bring our iconic flavors to new audiences, and reinforce the brand's relevance in today's evolving retail and dining landscape,' said Ted Milburn, director of franchise development. As of June 2025, Wienerschnitzel has more than 300 locations across 13 states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas, Utah, and Washington. Oreo maker sues Aldi, accusing grocer of 'blatantly' copying packages Walmart, meanwhile, has been bringing other restaurants into its stores. In March, Nozzleman Pizza opened a location in a Walmart in Carson City, Nevada, in March. The Nevada-based pizza chain expects to open more than a dozen additional locations in Walmart stores in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming this year. Last summer, Crave Hot Dogs & BBQ launched its own partnership to bring express models of its restaurants to Walmart stores. Those locations have opened in several states, including Texas, Florida, Ohio, and Kentucky. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Walmart Is Opening a Fan-Favorite Hot Dog Chain in Several of Its Stores

Founded in 1961 by John Galardi, Wienerschnitzel began as a single-family-owned hot dog stand in Southern California and has since grown to become the 'world's largest hot dog franchise.' In addition to the 358 locations of the fast-food restaurant today, Wienerschnitzel is now expanding even further with the help of the largest grocery store in the United States. On May 28, Wienerschnitzel announced plans to open six restaurant locations inside Walmart stores by fall 2025. These new openings will be situated in six cities across various states: Alamogordo, New Mexico; Bakersfield, California; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Reno, Nevada; Tempe, Arizona; and Puyallup, Washington. This is far from the first time Walmart has partnered with prominent American fast food chains. The retailer has previously housed fan-favorite restaurants like Burger King, McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Subway in its stores. The new Wienerschnitzels in all six states will offer the chain's full menu for Walmart shoppers. As a restaurant renowned for its hot dogs, some menu highlights feature offerings like the classic Chili Cheese Dog, Junkyard Dog (topped with french fries, chili sauce, grilled onions, American cheese, and French's mustard), and Texas BBQ Dog (topped with bacon, barbecue sauce, grilled onions, and shredded cheddar), along with burgers, chili cheese fries, jalapeño poppers, and Tastee Freez soft serve desserts, including shakes that are beloved for their thick texture. Additionally, the menu features three vegetarian hot dog options — including Field Roast's plant-based Signature Stadium Dog — such as the Barbeque Veggie Dog (topped with barbecue sauce, a pickle spear, and chopped onions) and the Chicago Veggie Dog (topped with tomato, chopped onions, a pickle spear, relish, sport peppers, yellow mustard, and celery salt). Wienerschnitzel locations currently span 13 states. Ted Milburn, the brand's director of franchise development, explains in the press release that 'Growing inside these Walmart locations significantly expands our reach and opens the door for franchisees to tap into high-traffic locations with built-in demand." If you're a fan of hot dogs or just love making a pit stop for a meal while grocery shopping, watch for these six new Wienerschnitzel locations and hope for more to come.
