‘Meri beti ka parlour ka kharcha utha paaoge?': The first question Shama Sikander's mother asked her husband back when they were dating
They say you never really know where and how you are going to find true love in your life, and that is often accompanied by the old saying, 'When you know, you know.' Something similar happened with actor Shama Sikander when she met her now-husband, James Milliron. The businessman, who was just a mutual friend, was quick to express his feelings to the actor, but even though the couple fast-tracked through the nascent stages of a relationship, it took them some time to convince each other's parents about this union. While appearing on Hauterrfly's YouTube channel, Shama shared how everything was very rapid in the beginning, and the two went from being complete strangers to dating each other in a very short period of time. She said, 'We met through another friend of ours, and I had no idea that I was about to meet the love of my life. We all went for dinner, then clubbing, and I sort of felt this magnetic pull, which was weird because I wasn't even attracted to him. Later I took his number and told him to text me when he reaches home, and he actually got in an accident.' To which, James added, 'If you're meeting a girl for the first time, I highly recommend getting into an accident; it just keeps the conversation going.' They met the next day at an impromptu get-together that James Milliron had organised just to be able to meet Shama Sikander, and then they went out for a coffee date the very next day. 'He invited me to have some coffee the next day, and we sat in the coffee shop for around 6 hours, and we really connected that day. By the time the next day came around, he told me he loved me, and I thought it was really quick, but it happened,' said Shama. He said, 'Our initial conversations were absolutely hilarious because I didn't know any Hindi, and she didn't know much of English. We were figuring out what we were discussing, and the conversations were mostly about money. That was the first thing she asked me.' Shama repeated the question her mother asked James, which was, 'Meri beti ke parlour ka kharcha utha paaoge? (Will you be able to afford her parlour bill?)' At the same time, Shama Sikander was also facing some difficulties trying to get James Milliron's father to accept her because of a comment she made about religion during a casual discussion. 'I don't know what I said which made him think that I was anti-religion or something. However, one day he got into a terrible accident, and while he was in the hospital, I went with James and hid behind the curtain in the room. He called me to him, held my hand and introduced me to the nurse as his daughter-in-law, and we weren't even married yet.' Shama Sikander and James Milliron met each other in 2015 and got married in 2022.

Recently, he candidly spoke about his divorce from actress Sweta Keswani and his relationship with actress Shama Sikander. In conversation with Vivek Lalwani, he said, 'You know we grew in different directions and Look, this is something that happened a very long time ago. I think Sweta and I divorced in 2011, so this is quite some time ago. But yeah, it was really a matter of wanting different things at different points in our life. She really wanted to explore being outside of India and I had fallen in love with India and I think that was more or less the foundation of why we found ourselves going in different directions quite literally. Her going west and me coming east more permanently. And look, I can't regret it. I'm thankful for the relationship. I'm thankful for all the things that uh that I learned in that relationship. It really made me grow as an individual. And I only hope that she also looks back fondly on the relationship and the things that we went through together." When asked it was just that she wanted to go west and you wanted to remain in the east? He replied, 'It's not even just that. It's a big thing. Look, if somebody has their heart set on not being in the place where they are, everything aligns in order to take them away from that place." Then again Vivek asks him, 'it was said that Shama Sikander intruded into the relationship and you got attracted towards her? 'Well, I think that that's more unfair to Shama than anyone else. The interesting thing is that Shama and Sweta knew each other anyway. But it was quite some time after Sweta and I had been separated that Shama and I started dating. But once again, Shama was a was an absolutely wonderful person to be with as well. And I don't regret that relationship either. I feel like we're focusing a lot on my relationships in the past, but suffice it to say that I truly am thankful for having had both of those women in my life. Unfortunately, neither of them are in my life now. But I think that's more out of respect to the fact that we've moved on in our lives. You know, both of them have married. Both of them have their own families now and I'm extremely happy for them and all that that they continue to to do. They have been very talented actresses. In fact, I myself am missing them right now on television and various other projects they can do and that's the reason the conversation has drifted there."
