Shameer Mohammed: It would have been foolish to drop my Malayalam projects for 'Game Changer'
The renowned Malayalam film editor made his Telugu debut with the Shankar directorial, which released in January this year The Ram Charan starrer Game Changer, which released earlier this year, received a lukewarm reception both from critics and audiences. There were many rumours about the makers of the film facing troubles in the editing room. Now, the film's editor, Shameer Mohammed, has opened up about the project, spilling beans on his experience working with Shankar. Speaking to Kaumudy Movies, Shameer revealed that the original runtime of Game Changer was 7.30 hours, which he brought down to 3.30 hours. 'However, another editor was brought in later to bring the duration down to 2 hours 45 minutes,' he added. Shameer further expressed his disappointment with the harrowing timelines under which he was compelled to work. The editor explained, 'If I was required for one day, Shankar would not tell me when. Instead, I would be called and made to sit there ten days prior. He would then come for one day, and I would be stuck for a further five to eight days."

Game Changer, starring Ram Charan and marking Kiara Advani's Telugu cinema debut, failed to impress at the box office and received largely negative reviews. Now, the film's editor Shameer Muhammed has spoken out about his experience working on the project, describing it as unpleasant. In an interview with Kaumudy Movies, Shameer revealed he spent a significant amount of time editing Game Changer. "I spent a year with that film. I went there for three years. It was in the last six months that I was told I would have to stay with them for another month. I had a sketch here, so I came at that time. When I was editing, the film was 7-7.5 hours long. I made it three and a half hours. After that, a new editor came in and shortened it to 2.5-3 hours," he said. According to Shameer, it was director Shankar's working style that led him to step away from the project. "It was a terrible experience working with Shankar for me. I went there with great excitement, but things were happening in some other world there. He would fix one date for editing, but he would turn up only after ten days. The same pattern continued for several days, and I ended up staying in Chennai for 300-350 days," he said. After he exited the film, editor Ruben took over the project. Shameer shared that he had already turned down other offers while working on Game Changer and did not want to miss out on more. "Then I left the film. It would have been a terrible mistake if I had left AR and Marco for Game Changer," he added.

His breakout project was Charlie starring Dulquer Salmaan, and since then, he has worked on acclaimed titles such as Ajayante Randam Moshanam (ARM), Marco, Rekhachithram, and most recently Narivetta featuring Tovino Thomas. Game Changer was positioned as a high-stakes political action drama, where Ram Charan played dual roles of father and son. The story revolved around an honest IAS officer attempting to cleanse a deeply corrupt political system. The ensemble cast included Kiara Advani, Anjali, SJ Suryah, Jayaram, and Srikanth.
