Stevens said she was left with gaping holes on the outside of her home, left behind by a plumbing company hired by her home warranty company to locate and fix a leak. They drilled through the outside of her home. Pinellas woman ends up with holes in house after leak repair When the warranty company sent two different plumbing companies who were both unsuccessful in finding and repairing the leak, she hired her own plumbing company to fix the leak. However, she said she was left on her own, to repair the holes. 'They're just leaving me stranded with some extreme damage done to my home,' Stevens said of her home warranty company last week. Stevens called Better Call Behnken for help and consumer investigator Shannon Behnken called First American Home Warranty. A spokesperson said they would look into this and hours later, Stevens says the company called her and the next day workers showed up to repair the house. A spokesperson for First American Home Warranty sent this statement: 'First American Home Warranty provides our valued customers with budget protection from unexpected repair or replacement costs due to a breakdown of covered home systems and appliances. We have provided the customer with coverage that meets the terms of our contract. Since 2020, First American Home Warranty has helped its customers in Florida with over $44 million in repair and replacement costs on covered items.' Stevens said workers did a great job, and she's now ready to paint the house. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Hurricane-damaged hotel that received $34K Spectrum bill released from collections

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Better Call Behnken is getting results for a small hotel that was sent collections for internet and TV service it didn't have. Island's End Resort, on the end of St. Pete beach since the 1940s, was severely damaged by Hurricane Helene and still doesn't have power. So, you can imagine management's surprise when a Spectrum bill showed up for more than $34,000. The small hotel has been sent to collections over the bill, which includes $30,000 in early termination fees. Polk County principal accused of 'skip scanning' at Walmart self-checkout Hours after Better Call Behnken got involved, this happened: 'I met you in the morning, and then that evening, I get a call from Spectrum saying that they're waiving all the bills, manager Melanie Vandegrift said. 'They have zeroed out our balance. They said they welcome returning our services whenever we're ready. And they are letting the collections agency they hired know that we no longer have a balance with them.' A spokesman for Spectrum assured 8 On Your Side Consumer Investigator Shannon Behnken that he would investigate. Hours later, Vandegrift said Spectrum called her to say they wiping out the early termination fees and working to lower the rest of the payment. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Pinellas veteran let off the hook from fraudulent SBA loan after 7-month fight

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A veteran in Pinellas County got some answers after he ended up on the hook for a federal Small Business Administration loan he never applied for nor received. Joseph Carpenter called for help in August after the SBA sent him a letter claiming he owed $20,833. The letter warned him that if he didn't pay by September, the Treasury Department would start taking up to 15% of his Social Security payments. Consumer Reporter Shannon Behnken was able to help him get the government to agree to keep their hands off his Social Security while they investigate his fraud claim, but the loan issue was still unresolved. Well, not anymore. Carpenter has now received a letter from the SBA acknowledging this was identity theft and clearing him from the debt. 'You got to the SBA in Tampa, which I couldn't even get ahold of anybody over there,' he said. 'No matter what you all you get is a recording.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
