Political row erupts in Mahayuti over delayed Shantidoot Society redevelopment in Kalyan

Kalyan: A fierce political tug-of-war has broken out within the Mahayuti alliance over the long-pending redevelopment of Mhada's Shantidoot Society in Kalyan. The project, stalled for over a decade, has become a major flashpoint between BJP and Shiv Sena leaders. Former BJP MLA Narendra Pawar launched a hunger strike on Sunday alongside several affected residents, demanding that Mhada terminate its agreement with the project's builder, Tycoon Realty, and that a criminal case be registered against the developer for prolonged delays. "The people elected MLA Bhoir, not the builder. Why is he defending the builder in press conferences?" Pawar asked, accusing Shiv Sena MLA Vishwanath Bhoir of siding with the developer rather than the residents. In retaliation, Shiv Sena supporters staged a protest against Pawar outside the DCP office in Kalyan, accusing him of politicising the issue and potentially derailing the redevelopment process. Some residents, aligned with Shiv Sena, argued that Pawar's agitation may disrupt ongoing efforts to find a resolution and further delay construction. A meeting on Saturday, August 2, was attended by MLA Bhoir, Shiv Sena City President Ravi Patil, and former corporator Sanjay Patil. Bhoir stated that senior leaders, including Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, and minister Shambhuraj Desai, have taken note of the issue. He assured that a meeting with stakeholders would be convened after Mhada submits its report and promised a resolution soon. Bhoir criticised Pawar's hunger strike, saying, "The matter is already progressing. Creating unrest at this stage is counterproductive." He appealed to Pawar to withdraw his protest in the interest of residents of society. However, Pawar remained defiant. "Until an FIR is registered against the builder and Mhada replaces him—as demanded by the society committee—I will not call off my hunger strike," he declared. Redevelopment row at Shantidoot society sparks political clash in Maharashtra's Kalyan; ex-BJP MLA, Shiv Sena MLA trade charges

KALYAN: A bitter political tussle erupted within the Mahayuti alliance over the long-pending redevelopment of Shantidoot Society in Kalyan, with Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Vishwanath Bhoir and former BJP MLA Narendra Pawar trading serious allegations against each other. The dispute intensified just a day before Pawar was set to begin a hunger strike on Sunday, 3 August, in protest of the stalled redevelopment work. Pawar accused MLA Bhoir of siding with the builder rather than standing up for the rights of the residents, while Bhoir alleged that Pawar was unnecessarily inciting the issue for political gain. The redevelopment project, affecting 185 residents of Shantidoot Society, was assigned by MHADA in 2012 to Tycoon Realty, a Kalyan-based builder. However, the project remained in limbo for several years. Repeated appeals by residents for intervention have so far failed to bring justice. A meeting of concerned citizens was held on Saturday, 2 August, where MLA Bhoir, Shiv Sena City President Ravi Patil, and Sanjay Patil were present. Speaking after the meeting, Bhoir stated that Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and Minister Shambhuraj Desai have taken cognisance of the issue. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Role of Cell Lines in Science AskLayers Learn More Undo He assured that a meeting with all stakeholders will be scheduled after MHADA submits a detailed report and stressed that the govt is committed to resolving the matter. However, Bhoir expressed concern over Pawar's hunger strike plan, stating, 'The matter is already moving in a positive direction. Stirring up unrest at this stage is unhelpful.' He appealed to Pawar to reconsider his decision. In response, Pawar launched a scathing attack on MLA Bhoir, saying, 'The people elected him, not the builder. Why is he holding a press conference in the builder's support?' Pawar criticised Bhoir for failing to raise the issue in the Legislative Assembly, which forced residents to seek support from an MLA from Pune. He further challenged Bhoir to join him on the hunger strike if he truly supports the people's cause. The escalating war of words has left residents of Shantidoot Society confused and anxious, as they remain caught in the crossfire between political representatives.
